The Play of His Life Kindle Edition
Two years ago, Riley was injured out of the NHL, but he’s got his own bakery now and a quiet life selling quiches and cupcakes to his customers. Then Christian unexpectedly walks back into his life, forcing Riley to question his choices. Especially that one choice he made six years ago that walked him out of Christian’s life. Now if only he had the courage to tell a boy how he really feels about him…
[The Play of His Life was originally published in 2017. This updated version has a brand new cover, but very little changes to the content aside from updates to grammar, fixing a minor inconsistency, and the inclusion of the bonus epilogue that was originally available via Amy's newsletter.]

About the author

Amy's lived with her head in the clouds since she first picked up a book as a child, and being fluent in two languages means she's read a lot of books! She first picked up a pen on a rainy day in fourth grade when her class had to stay inside for recess. Tales of treasure hunts with her classmates eventually morphed into love stories between men, and she's been writing ever since. She writes evenings and weekends—or whenever she isn't at her full-time day job saving the planet at Canada's largest environmental non-profit.
An unapologetic introvert, Amy reads too much and socializes too little, with no regrets. She loves connecting with readers. Join her Facebook Group to stay up-to-date on upcoming releases and for access to early teasers, find her on Instagram and Twitter, or sign up for her infrequent newsletter.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2023Truly loved this friends and lovers 2nd chance romance. I'll be honest and say I picked this up to have a bit more of Mitch and Alex after having read On the Ice. And while the little snippet I got of the two was great, I fell in love with Riley and Christian almost immediately. This authors way with words and her characters emotional development is extraordinary. I loved every emotional minute with these two men. Wish the story was a full length book.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 18, 2024I got sucked into Aislin’s Stick side universe so I HAD to know where Desie ends up. I love their return to each other and a meddling mom. I’m glad they found their way to happily ever after. Even if the house is definitely haunted.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2024Usually, I give Amy Aislin four or five stars.
However, this book was just too comfortable and cosy for a couple, best friends in seventh grade moving on to full-on lovers by their teens, and who had already broken up three times in their 20s already, despite still being in love.
Two of the times (including the absolute worst) had been Riley's decision, and he'd had a hand in Christian's "long distance break up" by telling him firmly not to transfer to a college much closer to Riley.
Yet, from the beginning, there was no real anger or angst on Christian's part, instead he happily fell back into their old "couple together" ways, even extending his holiday from work by a week almost from day one.
So, what the reader gets is a joint happy love relationship, through two happy weeks, right up until the end of the novel, where it looks like Riley has done a runner again.
Instead of a heap of drama, with a good dollop of will-they-won't-they, we get a very well written (in a literary context) half cold cup of good coffee, which should have been steaming hot cup the whole way through...
This was a shame in that Amy could have kept the hot coffee topped up for us easily with her writing skills.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 6, 2022This book was a must read. I had finished the series "STICK SIDE" & loved it so much. This book "The Play of My Life" was a continuation of the series about a ice hockey player that was injured so bad he could no longer play professional hockey. Something he had dreamed of doing since he was 5 years old. And his best friend since 5 years old which turned into boyfriends then more only to end. I had to read it. You will understand if you have read the series, but if you have not. Even if you are not a hockey fan. The series "STICK SIDE" is amazing. And reading this book last ties everything together.
Love this book as much as I loved the series "STICK SIDE".
Hope so will you

- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2020This second chance romance between Riley and Christian was sweet and heartwarming. The two men desperately wanted to be together but circumstances made it difficult for many years until Christian went home for a visit over Christmas and the two men reconnected. I love when authors pull in characters from other books which is exactly what Amy Aislin did and peaked my interest enough to want to go back and read their story. This was a wonderful summer read especially when the men are talking about the coldness of Canada and you are sitting in the humidity of summer.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2020This is second chance romance between two best friends is sweet and passionate. They were each others first in everything from first kisses and first dates to so much more. Their inability to communicate caused their original break up. Now they have a chance to reunite and get reacquainted and try to keep history from repeating itself.
Amy Aislin gives us two charming characters whose emotional connection is intense. Riley and Christian are so sweet and love so deeply but OH MY GOD they are both kings of assuming and I wanted to smack them both up side the head. Miscommunication for the win lol In all honesty though they were precious together and their intimacy scenes were hot hot hot.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 25, 2020Christian and Riley grew up together and were best friends that turned lovers. Riley's new hockey career along with some miscommunication led to their breakup. Six years later Riley has adjusted to his hockey career ending and settles back into a life in his hometown. Christian comes home to visit his mom and runs into Riley.
I definitely recommend this quick sweet light book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story
This was a great second chance romance.
I loved both Riley and Christian. Their past and complicated history. The heat, love and trust that still exists between them and was so sweet to read.
I really enjoyed it, and all the emotions they go through.
Nice read

4.0 out of 5 stars Great read
This was such a sweet yet chemistry filled second chance romance. Christian and Riley both regret the breakdown of their relationship, and a chance encounter sees both of them not wanting to pass up the opportunity to spend time together again. Their chemistry is off the charts, and its inevitable that they won't be able to keep their hands off each other. I loved that we got the dual POV as well so we could experience their insecurities, hopes and dreams regarding a future together.
Personally I do find I have to suspend reality a little in books like this. We have 2 characters who haven't seen or spoken to each other in over 6 years. Despite their shared past, 6 years in your 20s is a long time and as their careers developed that would have changed and shaped them. I found it hard to believe that there was no "getting to know you" period again, and no mention of other partners during that time (not even in passing, like a comment about how it was never as good as it was with Riley/Christian). I get that the chemistry could still be there, but the friendship wouldn't be after so many years of silence, and the hurt feelings they were both nursing. I had hopes there would be more of those conversations, asking about more details in their lives, rather than thr very brief "how is your job going" discussion that did happen. It wasnt personal enough, and the foundation seemed to be their past rather than who they were now.
Still a great read, and one I did enjoy. I like this author's writing style and look forward to reading her other works.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Story
Hurt, regret, longing, a painful tale of two men that loved and lost. Riley was a rising star in hockey, Christian had a job offer across the country, and there it all went wrong. Years later, both back in their hometown, they meet again. It's sweet, sad, and angsty as they meet and fall in love all over again but still have problems hanging over their heads. A wonderfully heart warming story, just a gorgeous read.
