"Wrong never felt so right."

Morgan Cantrell is a survivor. After running away from an abusive husband, he’s finally divorced and starting over, but it’s hard. Of course he doesn’t mean to set off the smoke detectors in the building or short out the electricity in his apartment. Mistakes happen. The last thing he wants is to draw the attention of his growly, moody-ass super. Every time they meet, it’s like oil and water—they just don’t mix.

Leo DeLuca learned at an early age that the people who are supposed to love you only hurt you. He’s happy to keep to himself, but the walking disaster of a new tenant in 5C won’t stop getting in his way and into his business. They can’t even speak to each other without arguing, but Leo has to admit—it’s kind of a turn on. That must be the reason why he can’t stop thinking about the guy in 5C. Or wanting to touch him. But hell, no. That would be a mistake.

One kiss leads to an explosive night both men fight to forget—after all, Leo has nothing in common with the sweet kindergarten teacher while Morgan is looking for a happily ever after he knows Leo can’t give. Yet it’s Morgan who Leo leans on to help deal with his painful past, and Leo is the key to unlocking Morgan’s inner strength.

Trusting someone is never easy, but it might be the only way they discover that everything they think is wrong about each other, could be everything that's right.

Burning desire! From the first encounter, the two MC's detonate the pages of this steamy story. Both have deep hurt and damage that make them hide their hearts from the world. Morgan fights himself at every turn even though he wants nothing more than the love he doesn't think he deserves. And Leo's demons won't let him go. These two are vividly portrayed with such depth of character. Their world fully realized. This book is a brutal and beautiful look at the human condition! I highly recommend this sexy, strong and funny book!😏

The Right One is worth the read. The characters are endearing if less than consistent in their portrayal, and their arc is satisfying. The book suffers from less than stellar editing and is something I wish publishers would spend a little more effort improving.

Felice Stevens never fails to come up with deeply troubled men who meet other deeply troubled men and then get into a whole lot of deep trouble. In this one she presents us with two victims of abuse who never reveal that fact to each other until it's almost too late to care.

She gives us Morgan Cantrell to open the saga as he secretly packs a duffel and suitcase and then sneaks out in the middle of the night from his abusive, wealthy lawyer husband. After spending a year with his best friends, one of whom is his divorce lawyer, Morgan--a late 20s elementary school teacher originally from an upstate New York suburb whose only encounters with New York City have been in Manhattan--finds an apartment in a Brooklyn neighborhood he's never heard of.

The apartment is in a building owned by Leo DeLuca (on the cover), a mostly scowling mid-30s hunk with a number of attitudes including intimidation as a defense for his physically abusive childhood by a stepfather and his still emotionally abusing mother.

Leo is also the superintendent of the small apartment building and his first encounters with his new tenant are enough to set off at least one smoke alarm, and maybe a fire alarm or two in his libido.

Perfect pitch for this author. As usual Felice Stevens comes through with an extremely "Noo Yawk" bunch of characters who fill the pages--and the heads and hearts of Morgan and Leo--with enough common sense and love so that we eventually get a real settle-in-the-gut love story that may not tickle you, but will in the end give you a giggle here and there and a "whole lotta lovin' goin' on."

    Yep. She did it again

The plot description drew me in and I was even drawn to the characters at first, but to be frank, their interactions made me cringe more than swoon.

Morgan is coming out of an abusive relationship. I can understand the pull to someone who is a protector. But Leo doesn’t come across as a protector. He comes across as angry and controlling. Morgan should be afraid or wary of him, but he isn’t.

A lot of their interactions sent up red flags for me as a controlling relationship. These things would realistically make someone who had a controlling husband feel threatened. Leo is very possessive and his teasing of Morgan isn’t attractive. Someone who was belittled in their previous relationship wouldn’t be drawn to this type of behavior.

There was also a lot of heaviness with Leo’s familial relationships and a lot of repetitive writing when describing the characters’ pasts. Eventually I was just waiting for it to be over. This should have been a book I liked, but there were too many cringey moments for me, like constantly treating a 30-yr-old man like a naive child just because it didn’t grow up in NYC. There was also quite a bit of foreshadowing with little payoff.

Still really like this book. Not too slow of a romance burn, and author certainly writes Leo as swoon worthy.

Nice to see Drummers and the bartender in their little cameo, maybe his story will show up soon. (From Rescued/Reunited days) That always felt like a story waiting to be told.

Loved this book. I felt the author did a great job handling the abuse aspect but I have no triggers for that. Love the way she handled Leo’s struggle with his mother. Those relationships can be hard and she dealt well with some difficult themes. Morgan showed great strength and was really perfect for Leo. Enjoyed these two figuring it out and getting together.

Both Leo and Morgan said that they were melting each other's heart at one. And they melted mine in the process.
In the beginning, they don't like each other, they keep fighting and it is so funny I laughed all throughout their banters.
And the issues with his mom, on Leo' side, and with his ex abusive ex husband, in Morgan's, made all so emotional that I've almost cried a few times.
This book is absolutely amazing. Steamy but not to much, romantic, emotional, funny.
I couldn't have asked for more.

I devoured this book in practically one sitting and it takes you through a whole range of emotions.

Morgan was a sweet man who had moved to New York from a small town and naively married a successful lawyer who turned into a controlling bully who would beat him so badly he was often in the emergency clinic. He escaped one night taking only a bag and after a year spent with his two best friends, one of whom was a lawyer, and divorcing his husband he rents an apartment in Brooklyn which is owned and maintained by Leo. It seems to be hate at first sight and they can’t be around each other without sparks flying. Leo always calls Morgan 5C after the number of his apartment and every time they meet up it’s because Morgan has blown the fuses or set all the smoke alarms off! Morgan can be a bit klutzy.

Leo has built huge walls around himself that seem impenetrable, even his best friend knows nothing about his past but we learn that his beloved father died when he was eight and his mother ignored him and his stepfather beat him. He doesn’t know how to love but the sexual tension between them sizzles and bit by bit Morgan chips away at Leo’s walls.

They were a lovely couple, the chemistry was hot, there was a villain and wonderful side characters and this book had all the feels.

Two people from different worlds, meet and sparks fly.

Little background: Morgan is escaping from his abusive husband and ends up in an apartment building where Leo is the superintendent.

Morgan is upper class, where Leo is middle class. Morgan is quiet and polite. Leo is loud and abrasive. Morgan has no tattoos. Leo has many tattoos. From the outside they look like they don't have anything in common at all; but Leo has a heart of gold and wants to protect Morgan. He wants to help Morgan any way he can.

I look forward to any books that Felice Stevens releases, they are definitely on my TBR list and I was not let down by this book. From page one I was immersed in the story of Morgan and wanted to find out what happened to him. I immediately felt for Leo and wanted someone to come along and make his life easier and be there just for him. When these two met, sparks flew and I knew something special was going to happen. The story kept my interest right until the very end...which came way too soon.

I received and ARC of this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning Story
Reviewed in Canada on April 18, 2022
Looking at the reviews this book is truly a love or hate thing. Mostly because of Leo, people did not like him, but he was broken too, he just handled things differently, well, really he didn't know how to handle things he's that much of a mess. Both Leo and Morgan are badly broken men for similar but different reasons. Leo's abuse came as a child, Morgan's as a newly married young man. The pain and anger inside Leo consumes him and brings out overwhelming reactions, I couldn't quite dislike him as much as some did. This is a stunning story of people overcoming defeat and trying to live again. As painful a read as it is I loved it, even when it made me cry.
There are definite triggers here, child abuse and spousal abuse, if this bothers you read this story carefully, it's not overwhelming but it is described.

This story was excellent. The plot was spot on with just a good amount of things happening before the HEA, even if I got a little surprise at the end with one event. It was really good I love to be surprised. I love the evolving of enemies-to-lovers relationship to me it's really funny and entertaining. The character was adorable and had a background that really makes you think. The writing was really great I love every part of it. It was an easy read.
