"Birchall manages to design a cheer squad of fully supportive chums and a sexy, sensitive love interest in this witty, relatable tale that doesn’t fall prey to the trite rom-com formula you may be expecting." ––USA Today
FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL meets THE WEDDING PARTY...
Freya Scott is getting married. Her wedding to Matthew, her long-term boyfriend, is the first of eight in her calendar this year, and as someone who prides herself on being meticulously organized, Freya is intent on making it the perfect day to remember.
But when Matthew calls things off hours before they walk down the aisle, Freya’s entire life plan goes up in smoke. Humiliated and heartbroken, the last thing she wants is to attend a summer of other peoples’ nuptials on her own.
Fortunately, her friends have an idea: together they devise a series of outrageous challenges for Freya to complete at each event, designed to distract her from Matthew and what might have been. From getting stuck in an old church bathroom and needing to be rescued by the vicar to making out with a barman at a French chateau, Freya realizes that despite herself, she might just be having fun.
By the time the final wedding arrives, she will discover that the road to a happy ending sometimes has unexpected detours, that “I do” is only the beginning––and that perhaps her own love story isn’t over just yet.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2024I enjoyed this book. Was fun to follow chapter after chapter.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2022I enjoyed this book. There are numerous scenes, conversations (out loud & in her head) and realizations that I started laughing so hard my family thought I was nuts. Yet, the funniest scenes fit the main character, Freya, perfectly. I could imagine her saying and thinking the crazy thoughts. Even though I thought the book was good, I was unsatisfied with the ending. It left me wanting more than was offered to the reader. If you need some good laughs then this book is for you 🙂
- Reviewed in the United States on August 9, 2022This story follows the perspective of Freya, a woman whose fiancé dumps her the night before their wedding, and she is devastated. In order to make it through the rest of the wedding season, her friend comes up with a list of tasks for her to complete at each of the eight weddings that will be happening, to keep her mind off her broken heart. It is a contemporary romance set in England.
I was super excited about this story. It sounded so fun, and I thought it was going to be full of hilarious moments plus a cute romance, but it was a bit of a letdown. It did not have the funny moments that I was expecting, which based on her task list would have been amazing. I think that this book missed out on some great opportunities for some hijinks and awkward swoon-worthy interactions between the love interest. Some of the tasks on her list were accounted for after the fact instead of being in the moment when it happened which took me out of the story and felt like we missed out. The love interest didn't even make an appearance in the story until 40 percent into the book. It ended up dull at times and I did not develop a connection or have strong feelings about the main characters. The writing was fine and I thought the story moved at a pretty good pace I was just looking for a bit more over the top, laugh out loud Overall, I was a bit disappointed but I do think that this book would be a great one for people looking for a more tame story with just a sprinkle of romance in it but it was just not for me and I found it ok but not mind-blowing.
I received this advanced ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 3, 2022Content Warning: Divorce
Freya has been dumped the day before the wedding by her boyfriend of twelve years and to make things worse, it seems all her friends are getting married in the summer! To get over her misery her two besties, Ruth and Leo, come up with a wedding survival guide to get her out of her depression and to enjoy wedding season even though her heart has been broken. She ends up checking off everything on the list and then some.
This story is fun! It gave me Bridget Jones’ Diary vibes with the British humor and words I wasn’t super familiar with like hen do (we in the USA like to stay bachelorette party) so I learned a lot of words. Yes Freya’s heart has been broken so badly but honestly, she has awesome besties and other friends as a support group. On top of that she has her family, even if she hasn’t been close to her mother since her parents divorce but her brother and father are so awesome.
There are a lot of characters in this story, but the main ones stick out. I love Ruth and Leo, they are true best friends! I could feel the love and friendship between this trio. Here and there in the story a new friend of Freya’s will pop in and you just can see how big of a social group they have. It gives you an idea of how much Freya’s had to really just keep her head up throughout everyone’s happy moments but what I like about her is that she is genuinely happy for her friends. She has her moments of missing her ex or breaking down in the bathroom (or the loo) but Freya’s a tough girl and with a good support system she really does carry on beautifully. I thought her challenges were fun, especially when it puts her in the path of Jaime.
I loved her banter with Jaime and it was nice to see her not fall for him right away. Freya is still someone going through a massive breakup and she deals with those messy feelings. But I loved seeing them get to know one another especially since it didn’t start off on the right foot! It’s a very sweet, slow burn romance.
My only issue had to be with when Jamie appears. He comes into the story right before the middle of the story. The beginning was about Freya learning how to cope with Matthew dumping her. It’s what made this feel more like women’s fiction than a full on rom-com. This was more of a story about Freya’s journey to finding who she is without Matthew. She also gets to have a meaningful, truthful talk with her mother who she’s been having some issues with since the divorce. But overall it’s a heart warming story with a happy ending!
Why you should read it:
*it’s fun and funny! It has best friends, hen dos, wedding ceremonies, and travel
*the romance is a sweet, slow burn
*Freya’s character growth
Why you might not want to read it:
*a little bit of a slow start, more women's fiction than rom-com
My Thoughts:
This is a heart warming story about a personal journey, friendship, romance and family. I really loved Freya’s journey. She is someone who has her life planned out but when things don’t go as planned she has to figure out how to move on. This was such a fun book and I’m glad I decided to read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Feel good novel
It was lovely following the main character around as she rebuilt her confidence in herself with the help of close friends and funny tasks to accomplish.
It was serious and light at the same time. A lovely read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heartfelt & hilarious
Another wonderful book from Katy that captures the highs & lows post break up whilst keeping you giggling throughout! The relationship with the best friends is a particular highlight and I always love how Katy works in whatsapp/text exchanges to such great effect, there was one between our hero and her friend Isabelle that made me snort on the train!

4.0 out of 5 stars Katy Birchall the woman that you are
This is my second Katy Birchall book and, just like the first one, it didn’t disappoint.
There was something just so British about this book and coupled with the lovely slow burn romance in the background it just felt like such a good time. Can’t wait to read the last remaining work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this!! Fun, frothy and full of laughter. Perfect summer read.
This made me laugh out loud. I also found the friendship bond running through the whole book so heartening. The times when Freya opened her mouth and then realised exactly what had come out of it were hilarious, and I can relate to those moments only too well! Fabulous book, can't wait for the next one.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved it!
Loved this story - wasn’t sure given the title and cover, was this going to be another predictable plot of romance..? but no it wasn’t. I loved Freya and found her super relatable. Nicely paced and made me laugh more than once. Looking forward to the next release from Katy.
