Tooth and Nail (U.S. Marshals I.S.R. (Interspecies Response) Book 1) Kindle Edition
Aristotle Brown isn’t like anyone Eoghan’s ever known before. He’s polite, willing to learn, and most of all, devastatingly handsome. Eoghan’s actually happy they’re thrown into a dangerous situation with a WITSEC protectee the first day his brand-new partner is on the job. Dealing with this particular man will let Eoghan know what Ari Brown’s made of. Will he break under pressure?
Dealing with humans is standard everyday stuff in the U.S. Marshals Service but other non-human species like shifters, other paranormals, and aliens from distant star systems…well, that’s where things promise to get downright interesting. Their second day on the job is no different. And he’s not prepared for Ari’s cool-headed composure when he comes face to face with an example of everything the I.S.R. deals with every day.
To top it all off, the marshal sent to back the two men up when things get dicey in Griffith Park isn’t as reliable as Eoghan had hoped. The impulses of the guy nearly get them all killed but fortunately, Ari performs like a dream, helping extract everyone when things go from bad to worse. Eoghan is sure of a couple of things…acting as this man’s training officer isn’t going to be such a struggle after all, and keeping his hands off him is going to be the hardest part about this assignment.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2024I have read most of Patricia Logan’s other series and really enjoyed them. She creates realistic characters and develops their relationships. I was curious how she handled that in this series. I love the storyline and the two MC’s. The secondary characters are a hoot! Don’t miss out reading this just because it is different from previous series. This first book developed the ISR and now we have to read the next one to see how it all plays out.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 1, 2024This book is read by the narrator Kevin Earlywine - up to the last Chapter when the POV changes to the other character which is then read by Declan Winters.

Extracted from the Authors Note on the Audio Version
... While deciding on how I wanted U.S. Marshals I.S.R. (Interspecies Response) narrated, I was listening to a few dual narrations and liked the concept which I hadn't done in any past books. The problem was the way the two characters traded off, chapter by chapter. I know a lot of listeners love it but to me, that felt choppy. But, when I met Kevin Earlywine and Declan Winters at GRL last year, I suddenly knew what I wanted to do.
In this series, one narrator will voice a character throughout the whole book in his point of view until the end when the other character and narrator will jump in. The next book will alternate, narrated in the other character's point of view until the end and so on. I thought it might be different and fun for my readers.
I'd now like to introduce you to my narrator partners in this endeavour. Kevin Earlywine will be telling Tooth and Nail as Eoghan Sapphire, and Declan Winters will be joining him in Chapter Twenty-One as Aristotle Brown. ...

📖 Story comment: Good pace, likeable characters, interesting and entertaining story.
I was delightfully entertained with this new spin on a U.S. Marshals team investigating all things alien. There's a lot going on, so the pace is good, and there are some rather amusing scenes reminiscent of the "Men in Black" type of humor.
🎧 Narrator comment: Despite Kevin Earlywine's significant audio catalog, he's a "new to me" narrator and I enjoyed his performance of Tooth and Nail, he has good cadence, inflections and intonations, a good variety of character voices, and his performance bought the characters to life. I did nudge the speed up to 1.1x (which I hate doing) as I found the 1.0 speed just a little slow for the constant action and "on the go" feel of the story.
Overall an entertaining story and a good performance - I look forward to the rest of the series!

- Reviewed in the United States on September 26, 2024This book was a pretty fun take on MIB. Eoghan and Ari are US Marshals who deal with the strange and mysterious alien and paranormal population. I really enjoyed the story but maybe because it is the first in the series, there just seemed to be so much explaining. There was so much world building to read or description that it seemed there wasn't a whole lot of action. It felt like it dragged in parts because I was reading explanations instead of actions. That said, I'm hoping the next book has more action with strange characters.
So overall I felt the book was good and give it 3.5 stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2024Eoghan is a US Marshal in the ISR branch. Ari is a new recruit to the ISR Marshals and Eoghan’s new partner. Ari learns that paranormals and aliens are real. While working a case they find out someone higher up is helping the bad guy.
I really enjoyed this first book in the series, I look forward to more.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2024I took a star away because several times in the story there were personality inconsistencies that were pretty jarring and threw me out of the story. Also some of the “banter” felt forced at times.
Other than that, think MIB (men in black) but make it gay. I was really happy to see one of the MC was a man of color. There really isn’t enough POC representation in MM books in my opinion.
Heat level a 2/5. The sexual tension was nice and pretty immediate but things didn’t get physical for awhile. Which I’m ok with, it allows the 2 MC’s to get to know each other and the tension to build.
One of those awkward jarring moments was when Eoghan was working through the emotional turmoil of becoming lovers with his work partner so he started an argument. This led into them sharing an epic kiss…. the next second they had dinner without speaking and went to bed separately. I was like,” …what the ?!??!?”. It didn’t make sense to me.
That said, if you can use the power of suspending disbelief to gloss over those times the story has a decent flow with good romance.
The story is mostly single POV which I don’t love but the author does a good job of describing Ari in a way you feel like it’s dual POV.
It’s pretty action packed and you’re constantly learning about the world and the entities that inhabit it so there really isn’t any “slow” time.
Overall I enjoyed this story, don’t regret reading it and will definetely read the sequel. I hope the sequel further deepens the emotional connection that’s already pretty strong in book one.
I’m intrigued enough by this author that I will follow them and see where this goes.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2024This was a huge, wonderful story! I was completely enthralled by this book from the beginning to the cliffhanger ending. - Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2024I found this to be an interesting and novel take on paranormal and alien fiction. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great new series

5.0 out of 5 stars This was so much fun
Eoghan Sapphire (Sapphire) was did not want a new partner in fact every partner they put him with did not last very long. In steps Aristotle Brown (Ari) and all of Sapphire's arguments faded away.
This was an enjoyable read and read it fairly quickly. The instant connection Sapphire and Ari had made working as a team a lot easier and I liked following them whilst they investigated the smaller cases, involving unusual paranormal creatures. I found Ari's flippant comments funny especially when he though he was making a joke and I recognised it was one of his coping mechanisms. After all the secret glances and lustful thoughts when they did get together it was perfect and I love a scene when one is pinned to a wall/door. They just fit together and I found that they worked even better after they decided that they will be a couple.
There are a good number of secondary character in the ISR. each playing a part in this story and without them, Sapphire and Ari could not get their job done. A special mention to Sapphire's landlords one of the sweetest couple I have read and his cat Bear who was full of surprises.
I am interested to see where this series goes as whilst they cleared up all the small cases, there is still the issue with the vampires

4.0 out of 5 stars A good start
I enjoyed the story and I am definitely in for the next book. Eoghan and Ari are shaping up to be a hot couple and great partners. The 'monsters' are varied and I imagine there will be many more to come. The vampire king is still an issue. My only issue with the book, hence 4 not 5 stars, was the interruptions to the flow of the story. A bit of history and a few facts are fine. As Ari said "sorry carry on" I was inwardly groaning and wishing he would not interrupt. Disney's Tinkerbell was a big example. I really just wanted the story. However, this is just the start and overall I did enjoy the book and look forward to more.

5.0 out of 5 stars fantastic
This was an amazing book that I thoroughly enjoyed. Well written, likeable characters and a crazy storyline. Think men in black meets Peter Pan, the X files and ET. Loved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Aliens, Vampires And Shifters...Oh My!!
So here we are again at the start of another new series by this always entertaining author. This time out we have the very familiar law enforcement angle (here it's the marshals) blended perfectly with a wonderfully wacky paranormal world.
We first met Aristotle Brown in the author's last series, and boy am I glad he appeared to be chatty enough that he needed his own books. The decision to partner him in a new city in a new to him division of the US Marshals with Eoghan Sapphire was absolutely inspired! Eoghan has been there and seen it all on the job: chased down vampires, faced down aliens but he's not felt the instant attraction and possessiveness he feels for his new partner. Yes, it's a slow burn between Ari and Eoghan, but then my goodness does it burn...scorching! I can genuinely see these characters becoming another of my favourite book couples.
The world building is fantastic in every sense of the word - I love the Men In Black vibe and the colourful cast of side characters; especially where there a some surprises! For me, Tooth And Nail gives every indication of setting us up for a wild ride over the course of the series. There are elements of Eoghan and Ari's investigations that are wrapped up nicely, but there are also elements that are unresolved...and I can't wait for more from the Interspecies Response guys. 5*
