Touch Me Softly: A New Adult Contemporary Romance Novel (The Reawakening Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 81 ratings

The road to love is never easy...

A secret she wanted to bury...
Wynter Simmons was haunted by flashbacks. A year since the incident and she’s still not herself. Just as afraid and ashamed as if it all happened yesterday. When her best friend drags her to a concert, she’s in for another rude awakening. This could either be the best thing to happen or the moment that breaks her for good. Then she met him.

A dream he never saw coming...
Rafael Tapiro was always drifting. Told for most of his life that he wasn’t good enough, he almost believed it. Now, as the new bassist for the up-and-coming band, Country Blue, things are finally looking up. Too bad he doesn’t have anyone to share it with. But a gig at a crowded club changes everything. It only takes one look, and he’s a goner. The music led him to her.

Can they find exactly what they need in each other?

Because love comes when you least expect it and when you don’t think you deserve it…

Touch Me Softly is the first book in the Reawakening Series. This is a full-length contemporary new adult romance novel with all the angst. Get ready to follow this group of friends as they tackle tough issues and love, all at the same time.

The story was very well done and touchy subjects were handled realistically, but with sensitivity. The characters were fantastic...Wyn is definitely a girl we all know (or are ourselves!) and Rafe is the guy we all want to get to know a little better! Can’t wait to see where the author takes the rest of the series!

So, I really did like the story. However, I couldn't give it more than three stars because of Wyn's character. Now, I completely understand that an extremely traumatic experience happened to her... But at some point I was hoping the writer had given a more inspiring character before the absolute end of the book. Thoughout the entire story, I was waiting for that moment when Wyn would stop letting one huge incident completely shape her future. I love to read a story that has real life incidents in them and the main character can come back and be this super strong heroine. That's what happened here but by the time Wyn realized that she was strong enough to move past what happened to her, it was so anticlimactic that I couldn't fall in love with the moment. Her character spent almost the entire book replaying that one instant over and over and she almost love a really great love because of it. I hope I don't sound like a crappy person but, I don't wanna read a romance story and most of the book isn't romance. I found Rafe's character to be understanding, loving and the absolute "package". However, I spent most of my time feeling like he was fighting a losing battle with Wyn. No matter how hard he was trying she was letting her doubts dictate everything. Even when he was showing her that he was a great guy. I just felt like if this story was supposed to be about Rafe and Wyn having a great courting, it failed. Most of the story was spent explain how Wyn was taking 2 steps forward and then 10 steps back while Rafe was blinding taking all those steps with her and he didn't even know why he was having that much trouble from her because she wouldn't tell him or anyone anything. Most of this story Wyn was self destructive and at the end the author just decided to turn her into Superwoman and she was magically healed enough to move on with life. For those reasons I had to give this story 3 stars. It had the potential to be a favorite of mine but it missed the mark. I would recommend this story because it is a cute read. However, I can't see myself reading it again simply because I know Wyn's character and for most of this story she was hell bent on ruining herself.

A beautiful story that was simply told. Both Wyn and Rafe were characters with whom you felt a kinship with from the first pages. Both have suffered terrible hurt and while it took a great deal of time, found the healing needed with each other. I appreciated how the author dealt with the difficult issue of rape and abuse. I hope that we can see more of Rafe and Wyn in a Part 2, as well as what is in store for Colt and Darcy and their friends. Good beginning to the series.

The writing was solid in this book, but I didn't like Wyn. Actually, I liked Wyn but I don't think she was ready for relationship. I was ready for her to take the initiative to go seek professional help and then pursue something with Rafe. She was too emotionally damaged and because of that I didn't feel the chemistry between the characters. I was waiting for the point where she would open up to Rafe but it never came. She told her best friend's boyfriend before she told a crowd of people and Rafe what happened to her. The author never addressed Rafe's insecurity issues and his past because it was all about Wyn. After the secret was out I thought FINALLY we're going to see the love blossom with the characters, but the book ended. What happened with Dar, her move and her relationship? Did things work out? So, many unanswered questions that should have been answered in this book. This book would probably have been ok if there was a second book on Wyn and Rafe. This is my first book by this author and I'll most likely give her another shot.

I loved this so much. All the characters were amazing, though i'm sorry i would still be pissed at darcy for telling colt. But, i understand why she wasn't in that moment.

If you love romance with an edge of your seat ending this your book! In this book you meet Wynter with a secret that pretty much disables her to be with anyone and Rafe who is trying to make his mark in life. You journey with them to find peace with themselves and fall in love! Just loved this book!

I really wanted to love this but I couldn't for 3 reasons. 1. More thought than dialogue. Pages and pages of mind thoughts. Comments made or questions asked and the answer comes pages later. I had to go back to see what the question or comment was. 2. Subjects skipped over that should have been discussed. Something important happened and then all of a sudden it is days or weeks later. 3. My personal pet peeve. The "F" word used entirely too much. I am not a prude, it is used entirely too much and I am sorry to say that most of the authors guilty of this are women,

Beautifully written. With some serious issues handled with maturity and class. You could feel the emotion on every page. My only wish was that the ending didn't feel so rushed. An epilogue or even better a part.2 would be great. Looking forward to reading more about the characters, in the Awakening series. Particularly Berto. He leaps off the page!

Thanks Kelly Violet for sharing your gift of story writing. 🙏🏾💜
