About the author

Hi, I write what has been described as low fantasy— speculative fiction where fantastical elements play a limited and often antagonistic role. My stories aim towards action & adventure, and cover multiple subgenres from grimdark to gaslamp to positively lighthearted. My first novel The Heron Kings, called an “excellent debut” by Publishers Weekly, is a dark revenge fantasy in an archetypical medieval setting and begins a three-book centuries-spanning saga. My latest book The Artificer’s Knot is a more easy reading gaslamp gangster thriller. My collection As It Seems contains many dark and sometimes disturbing fantasy and sci-fi short stories & flash fiction.
My short fiction has been published in Nature, Assemble Artifacts, Cossmass Infinities, Hybrid Fiction, Electric Spec, Allegory, Bards and Sages Quarterly, the anthologies Crash Code, Into Darkness Peering, Best Indie Speculative Fiction Vol. 1, the short story collections As It Seems and Tricks of the Blade and many other venues detailed at ericlewis dot ink (it won't let me type that directly for some reason. Thanks Scamazon!)
By day I am a research scientist weathering the latest rounds of mergers and layoffs and still trying to remember how to be a person again long after surviving grad school.
Many of my books are free to read, either here or on any Draft2Digital platforms, so please check them out, and if you enjoy any of them, please leave a review!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2020Tricks of the Blade is a series of short stories, more or less connected. It's a quick read, with some clever twists despite each story's brevity. The tales are entertaining, but I would have liked more description and a bit more depth. Hopefully Lewis will write more in this world, because I think this is the tip of the iceberg!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2020Very fun book to read. Perfect story lengths for breaks from daily stuff. Highly recommend!
