The Case of the Troubled Tycoon (Shipwreck Point Mysteries Book 5) Kindle Edition
A Gilded Age Historical Mystery
A power struggle for a prominent position. A forbidden romance about to be exposed. A desperate deed that could solve both problems.
Titus Strong finds himself in a once familiar situation—a gathering of the distinguished, wealthy members of the upper class. When he’d moved to this small seaside town, he thought he’d left all of that behind.
The gentlemen have need of a counselor to draw up documents for the establishment of the Whitby Yacht Club, and who better to call upon than the town’s most famous lawyer? It’s a simple task that will bring him a healthy fee to tide him over until he acquires additional clients.
But when one of the rivals for commodore of the club is found murdered in his study, the attorney’s role undergoes a sudden change. Although reluctant, he agrees to employ his skills in defense of one of the members, even though he’s not sure of his innocence.
Is he once again trapped into defending a guilty man? Or is his new client truly blameless?
The only way he’ll find out is to lead his own investigation in a search for the killer. Along with his secretary, Elisabeth Wade, and former Pinkerton Detective Owen Campbell, Titus must once again solve a murder.

About the author

I love stories.
One of my earliest memories is of sitting next to my mother as she read Grimms Fairy Tales to me. I loved those stories so much, I asked her to teach me how to read so I could read them myself.
I wrote my first story in kindergarten. It was a series of pictures, and after school, my mother wrote the words under each one. I thought I was in heaven when I had to hand in a short story every Friday in sixth grade.
Later on, I didn’t write at all. I was happy in my job as a computer programmer.
Until 9/11.
After the initial shock, I was thinking about how all those people had gone to work or gotten on a plane, never imagining it would be their last day alive. What might they regret if they had?
More importantly, what would I regret not doing if my life came to an end tomorrow? One of my answers was writing a novel. I vowed to do that now.
Twenty years later, I’ve written a lot more than one novel. Now that I’m retired from the day job, I’m finally doing what I wanted to do all along: write mysteries in sunny Arizona while my two cats nap nearby.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2024I've read five stories with Titus Strong and Miss Wade, and each has been an engaging mystery that moved at a good pace. Well written and entertaining.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2021If anything, this series gets better with every new edition. This, the fifth, in the series is filled with possible suspects that must be whittled down to the real culprit. The suspects include Whitby’s own Romeo and Juliet scenario. Since each suspect has his or her own reason to want the victim dead, the reason is also in doubt until the resolution. Titus has taken on his first upper class client in Whitby which doesn’t sit well with his fishing buddy who considers Titus a lawyer for the common man. Will this riff be healed by Titus’s explanation? Does Whitby really need a Yacht Club? How would that fit into Titus’s life? We continue learning about our favorite series characters and the city they live in. There is another development in the romance of Titus and Elisabeth as well as a new romance developing.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 27, 2021I would advise to read this in the series as it has a lot of personal story arc. The detective story is nice but the setting is the charme.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 13, 2021What a fun series this is. I love the Gilded Age stories. I like Titus and Elizabeth and The Pinkerton and the Fisherman. Great team who fight for the innocent whether they have money or not. This one brings the exciting regatta racing community to Shipwreck Point and amps up Titus's standing in the money crowd. The relationship between Elizabeth and Titus continues to evolve with a few speed bumps, and a new romance for Elizabeth's maid shows up. Mystery, romance, politics, and some fun. Great read. Can't wait for more.
