Twice In A Lifetime: MM Second Chance, Bisexual Awakening (Sheltered Connections) Kindle Edition
Fate knew they needed each other.
Dominic
For the longest time, I believed we get one shot at true love. A single person that sets our soul on fire. I had that with my wife until she died, then I was lost in a dark sea of grief. In need of companionship, I decided to adopt a dog.
What I found at the shelter was so much more. Micha, the volunteer, is insanely cute and ridiculously funny. He awakens feelings within me I never knew existed. Is it possible I may get a second chance at real love?
Micha
Love just isn’t in the cards for some people. And I’m among those unfortunate few destined to be alone. I trusted the wrong man with my heart once and had it shattered into a million pieces. I won’t make that mistake twice. Instead, I pour every ounce of my energy into building my business and trying to convince myself I’m not lonely.
But Dominic could be the one to tear down the walls I hide behind. He’s the most handsome man I ever met and unbelievably kind. I know he experienced a horrible loss. Is that what’s behind his attraction to me? Or has the connection between us led to his bisexual awakening?
Twice in a Lifetime is the first book in the Sheltered Connections Series. This book involves themes of hurt/comfort, bisexual awakening, and an age gap. Swoon-worthy moments, laugh-out-loud humor, and scorching chemistry make up this 70k word story. Oh, and don’t forget the cherry flavored icing.

About the author

RM is an introverted Canadian author who likes to write about love while freezing in the winter. Her mission is to always make you swoon and snort laugh, sometimes even in public.
She talks to her cat, Moon, and sometimes people. She married her prince charming, who often inspires her characters, but still can't place dirty clothes in the hamper.
When she's not writing swoony men to fall in love with, she's in her garden providing mosquitoes with an alternative food source. She can also be found inventing new swear words on the golf course.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 9, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseAll the feels with this story. This was so good. Dominic has been mourning his late wife for several years and hasn’t allowed himself to move on. Micha doesn’t trust that good things can happen to him since he was betrayed by someone he thought he loved and was kicked out of his home at 19. When these two come together over the adoption of a dog, magic happens. This book has some very sweet and lovely moments as well as some very poignant and moving ones. Absolutely amazing book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIf you’re bored and want a good read with some flaws and predictability but over all a decent read. This is the book for you.
The overall concept was good but the relationship happened fast, which I’m ok with but I feel like the author didn’t do enough work to show the trust built between the 2 characters for it to be believable for me.
Also I basically knew what was going to happen and how it was going happen by the 50-60% completion mark of the book. After that I was just waiting for the other shoe to drop which took away from my overall enjoyment of this book.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
Basically a side character tries to sabotage the 2 MC’s relationship and you see it coming a mile away. You also quickly realize the author is going to use a misunderstanding and then non-communication to drive the “plot twist”. I don’t love this writing technique. I WILL say the author remedied this fairly quickly so that was nice.
Heat level a 2/5. There were some spicy times. Most of them happened in an emotionally appropriate time. Once, maybe twice I felt a little whiplash with the emotions going one way then somehow a 180 degree turn and the MC’s start making love. A little off putting but maybe that’s just me.
I gave it the benefit of a 1/2 star bump up just because sometimes you want a “safe” or predictable read as a palate cleanser between grittier more exciting reads.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseR.M. Neill is a new-to-me author, and my introduction to her writing is by way of Twice in a Lifetime, the first in her Sheltered Connections series. While not necessarily an insta-love romance, there's that instant spark that happens between Dominic and Micha. Things progress really quickly, especially on Dominic's part, until Micha pumps the brakes for a bit. The former's bisexual awakening was something he adapted to without a whole lot of quibbling, which was interesting. You'd think it would have given him more pause or moments of hesitation, but nope, he went with it like a duck to water. There isn't much unnecessary drama-rama that happens in the story, and everything pretty much plays out the way I expected it to, including the cause of the conflict between the main characters. This could have benefited from some proofing and editing. Overall, Twice in a Lifetime was a three-starred read.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 15, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseSmall town and small businesses, shelters for animals and youngsters in need: Neill sets a stage for a cute tale of finding trust as it quickly blooms. Good character writing and cuddly pets prove a winning narrative.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was so stinking cute! This was my first time reading something by RM Neill and it's not going to be the last!
I fell in love with all of the characters in this book and can't wait to continue the series. This was fantastic!
There was the good balance of sweet and steam ;)
- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2022Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was insta attraction/ love. Dom is amazing - he’s so thoughtful and assure of himself. He barely struggles w the fact that he has feelings for a man. Me hesitation. He jumps in. He wants Micha. Micha on the other hand has so things to work through. He’s kind but guarded. I just love them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Second chance love is twice as sweet
Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseI was already a fan of RM Neill’s work before this book, the first in her new series, and I was so excited to read this. It absolutely surpassed all my expectations of what I already knew would be another beautiful work of art.
Two wonderful, slightly fragile and big hearted men who make you fall in love with them so easy, an adorable rescue dog, a return of characters from the Nickel City Bandit Series and a whole lot of new adorable men I am keeping everything crossed get their own HEA; all of these combine into a novel so superbly sweet you cannot help but become invested in the world RM has created as you find yourself willing Dom and Micha to take their second chance at love.
RM - Thankyou for giving us this story - twice in a lifetime will be nowhere near enough to reflect how many times I will re-read this ❤️

4.0 out of 5 stars Touching Story
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA very sweet read, two men, both grieving, one gay and one straight, or so he thought. The death of his wife has devastated Dominic, even two years later he's struggling. Micha has been hurt and spurned, by his family and by the man he thought loved him. This is a gorgeous story, sweet and touching but also with it's sad, painful side, beautifully written.

Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI loved this book Micha really resonated with me.
I also loved the side characters and the general feel of the town. It made me laugh out load, well up and awwwww a lot. 2 guys an animal shelter and so much love.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe book was a relatively low angst story. One Mc let's his self-doubt derail a relationship a little too easily. The best friend of the dead wife could have been developed more. Some editing errors could have used a second set of eyes to spot. Overall, a decent read.
