Family secrets and fresh romance collide in this heart-pounding Richter series installment by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Catherine Bybee.

Jacqueline “Jax” Simon knows how to expose secrets: she’s a skilled operative with MacBain Security and Solutions. When Jax hears her parents are divorcing, she races to London to find out why. She’s determined to learn the truth, especially when her investigation uncovers why her parents sent her to Richter, the German military school that made her a fighter.

Andrew Craig collects Jax at Heathrow Airport as a favor. He’s heard she’s a handful, but he didn’t know she’s dangerously gorgeous too. His instant attraction could change his life…or end it.

Jax doesn’t want to fall for Andrew, but soon he’s worming his way into her life. Together, they infiltrate Richter to discover if it has returned to its covert purpose: training children to be spies and assassins and blackmailing parents to look the other way. As the attraction between the two intensifies, so do the secrets exploding all around them. How deadly are those secrets―and who will survive?

I have enjoyed all of Bybee’s novels - mysterious romances with twists. Great characters who believe in principles. Honesty, integrity loyalty and family. This felt like a very short book, although the story is complete. I have always like Jax’s and her spunk, lovely to see the story book ending of Claire’s romance and Neil and Gwen are always a plus. Richter is back in play so the team isn’t in the USA. Sasha also shows up as deadly as ever. But every role was brief, hence the short feeling of the story. Of course there was no proper ending, one bad guy is killed but who is still pulling strings? Obviously more books in progress. And I will continue to read. It did make me want to reread Neil’s story. Especially knowing where they have now ended up.

I've been so intrigued by all of the books in the Richter series thus far and An Unexpected Distraction was no different. Catherine Bybee has a way of creating a story where you're pulled in from the very beginning and you're kept on the edge of your seat as you progress through the book.

Jacqueline "Jax" Simons, who attended Richter Boarding School during high school, now works for McBain Security where she uses the skills she mastered during her years at Richter to work as a private investigator. While she grew up in Europe, she's lived in California for the past six years and she's love every minute of it. When she gets a call from her brother that she needs to come home, she knows something big must be up, as she hasn't been close to her family for a very long time. With it being a family issue, she does what she knows she should and boards a flight.

Andrew Craig is the friend of Jax's brother, Harry, and he does his buddy a favor by picking up his sister at the airport when she arrives. He's not forthcoming with exactly who he is, so Jax thinks he's just a driver who was hired to pick her up. He would like nothing more than the opportunity to see Jax again, so he heads to her hotel, where that happens. The two find that there is a definite attraction between them, but can anything come of it?

Jax ends up getting an assignment that will keep her in Europe for a while longer. Not only that, but the family matters are keeping her there longer as well. Andrew ends up playing a role in the assignment she's given since the two are dating. It gives her a good cover, but it also gives Andrew a true look into how dangerous the work that Jax does can be. Will he be able to handle it? Will Jax be able to get herself out of a difficult spot that she finds herself in?

As I mentioned at the outset, this series has been so good and this one was no exception. We were certainly set up for a forthcoming book, which makes me excited. I'm always up for any book that Bybee pens for us!

The third book in the Richter Series by Catherine Bybee, this one answers many questions for Jacqueline 'Jax' Simon. Not knowing exactly why she was sent to Richter, the private school that educates its students on much more than academics, her parent's issues soon show her what happened and why.

Jax is a take no prisoners operative for a security firm, a typical alpha, although female, not male. Go in, get the job done,, and take names kind of person. Andrew is more of a softie...I loved some of his responses when Jax had to get 'real' with the bad guys! He is in awe of Jax and the perfect fit for her!

There are many twists and turns in this book and while it can be read as a standalone, I think the story works best when you have some background from the previous books.

When we think everything is tied up in a pretty box, the girls from Richter that we know from the previous books have all made their matches and are in healthy relationships, and we're sighing as we watch two people get married...the last 4 paragraphs of the epilogue let us know not all is as it seems. GAHHHH...

Can't wait to see what happens next!!

I knew Jax story would be a great one and did it ever deliver. I love how resourceful and independent she is. How strong she is even in the face of her parents seemingly reluctance to have her there. But once she finds out the family secrets she finds a relationship with her mother, and an unexpected distraction in Andrew.

Never wanting to settle for the kind of man her parents want for her, Jax has always went the complete opposite. But when her brother calls her back to England for a family emergency she doesn’t know what to expect. And she finds things aren’t always what they seem.

Andrew is not at all what she thought. He may be in an office but he isn’t t the stodgy man one would think. He’s sexy, and strong and up for just about anything Jax throws at him.

Even in the face of her family secrets and the dangers of her job he stands firm thru it all. Their chemistry is off the charts and catching her off guard is wonderful.

When things go bad and Jax faces her biggest threat, Andrews unwavering strength and love help her to face it all. I loved this book and the whole series and can’t wait for more!

Andrew, Harry, Allison, Claire, Sasha & Jax’s story continues although the love story between Andrew and Jax is leading to marriage and hopefully living happily ever afterwards. This has been a great series and looking forward to the next one. Will it be another Richter? There is always Lynette and Charlie?

If you like spy thrillers, you are probably going to like this one. If you like intrigue and a little romance thrown in, so much the better.

However, if you haven't read the first two books, I recommend you do so. Whilst this book can stand alone, you may find much that is puzzling.

I can thoroughly recommend the series.

However, if Catherine Bybee sees this, a follow-up would be good.

I really liked that book, like the two Richter's before and the one about Sasha. For me it's the right mix of everything. I have to admit Claire and Cooper are still my favourite couple and Sasha's book my favourite concerning the storyline, but this still was very good. Andrew and Jax are written in a very cute way and I got attached to them, his down to earth way of dealing and that there was no drama between them.
i deduct one star as I have the impression, although the suspense in the story it was not much, I expected more. Even if I don't like cliffhanger, I appreciate that this is a good sign that there will at least be one other story. I hope Sven and James will get also their own book. Looking forward to also have some stories about the end 30's or mid 40's. Sadly there was no book release date or any other hint for the new book, can't wait to read the next one.
