Blurb Lena Fitchett lost her four-month-old baby to SIDS while suffering from postpartum depression. Her grief and online search for answers leads her down a rabbit hole of alien abduction/invasion theories. Once upon a time, Jackson Phillips wasn’t just a cab driver. In another life, he went by another name—Cracker Jack, the best safecracker money could buy. That was before Jack met the love of his life, Eve, and her seven-year-old son, Tommy. Their little boy Martin and his younger sister Bella were all they could have asked for…until the day Debbie watched helplessly as Bella’s life was ripped away in a horrific hit and run accident. Married to Leone Presutti, a ruthless mafia boss with a past as dark as the empire he controls, Fallon is trapped in a world of violence, power, and deadly secrets. What Fresh Hell Is This? brings together stories from across Howison's prolific career, each one exploring the eerie and the macabre, examining humanity's deepest fears and desires. She longs for a world away from reality and finds it in a mirror. Not just any mirror but a mirror of souls. One Jessica is drawn to time and time again. All is good until something inside notices.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ "Jam-packed with mindbending, eye-opening, heartwrenching, "what did I just READ?" prose and poetry, today's Dark Fiction lights pay tribute to the playwright who, though not the original purveyor of Horror, nevertheless mined the Dark Side in his own unforgettable plays and sonnets, so much a foundation of modern life and literature that we often don't recognize Shakespeare as the source. Enjoy these new takes on Shakespeare, as he might be today."—Into The Abyss Reviews

"These stories were full of strife, murder and scheming - but they were written with such beauty! I highlighted so many quotes that stood out to me because of their impact, beauty and/or meaning. To be quite honest, I think what appealed to me so much with this anthology is because it's written in modern day speech (though some had a bit of old English in there) and my brain can read and comprehend that so much better than trying to decipher Shakespeare's plays."—The Nerdy Narrative, Amazon reviewer

"Do yourself a favor and pick this book up. It is both homage to and a continuation of the Bard's desire to please the masses, especially when the masses are looking for a bit of blood."—Governmentality, Amazon reviewer

"I'll start out with, you do not need to know much Shakespeare or be a Shakespeare super aficionado to enjoy these "fun size" horror treasures. I believe both die hard and casual fans will enjoy this book. I truly enjoyed all of the stories and the sonnets were top notch. There isn't a bad one in the bunch. There is variety and so many different twists and takes on his works. The creativity is amazing. I liked the modern telling of these tales, you will breeze through this book much easier than stumbling through Shakespeare's work. It is fresh and worth the read.
This is the second book in the "Unleashed" series. The first book is
Classic Monsters Unleashed. I haven't read that one yet, but it is loaded to my Kindle for reading. Both Unleashed books are available on Amazon. Be sure to check them out."—PopHorror

Shakespeare Retold
I purchased the hardcover book through the Kickstarter campaign when it launched.Shakespeare retold as the authors’ interpretation is such an interesting concept. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but can now say I am absolutely thrilled with the results. Some of the stories/sonnets you will recognize right away as to which story inspired it. Others are ones that may not be familiar to all but luckily for us readers the authors have included which story was the inspiration (some under the title, others at the end).Shakespeare was most known for drama and that’s what we find here only ratcheted up a notch or two. All the stories/sonnets are worth the read and I can honestly say there wasn’t one bad tale. Truly if you like horror, plots with a twist, or just short stories period, then you must pick up this book! Well worth the read!

I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the premise of taking classic literature and incorporating a horror theme!!! I love Shakespeare. At least what I've managed to read. I can't stay out of the horror section. 👹 Great job! ALL THE CONTRIBUTORS to this anthology deserve a heartfelt 5 🌟 review! There isn't a bad story of poem in the bunch. Loved it!!! That said, I don't really do the kind of review where I talk about characters or plots...that's why you "READ" a book for yourselves. So. My solid advice would be to definitely "Read" T the darn book!!!
    (DISCLAIMER: You should familiarize yourself)
( with the most popular of Shakespeare's )
(writings before taking this on or you may not)
(get the ironies, etc. EX. MacBeth, Romeo & )
(Juliet, The Winter's Tale, A Midsummer Night)
( Dream & others. At least the rudimentary gist)
( of the story. You don't have to actually read )
( the works to enjoy these tales.)

Shakespeare is a natural for horror writers to reimagine. This lineup includes some of the very best modern horror writers and a smattering of lesser known writers to deliver a solid collection of stories Shakespeare himself might admire.

One or two good stories here......... the rest not so much. Seems like folks are to busy flaunting their knowledge of the Bard and stroking their egos

The first thing that I'd like to mention is that even if you are not well-read regarding Shakespeare's works or maybe you've never been a fan of his to start: this anthology is still a fantastic adventure of horror and wonder. These A-List authors took inspiration from some of Shakespeare's most well known plays and characters and reimagined them as horror stories and sonnets. In some cases, lesser known characters created by Shakespeare were featured and since there wasn't much written about them, it allowed the author(s) to get really creative. To make things even more fun, there were a few instances where an author expanded upon or was inspired by a previous author's story!

I have to be up front and say that since I am not someone who seeks out poetry of any kind to read, you maybe shouldn't take my word or opinion too much into account for the sonnets. They rhymed and were intriguing and I liked it.

These stories were full of strife, murder and scheming - but they were written with such beauty! I highlighted so many quotes that stood out to me because of their impact, beauty and/or meaning. To be quite honest, I think what appealed to me so much with this anthology is because it's written in modern day speech (though some had a bit of old English in there) and my brain can read and comprehend that so much better than trying to decipher Shakespeare's plays.

This anthology would be great for those of you who prefer "bite-sized" horror!

I had the distinct pleasure of reading some of the essays submitted for this collection, and I can guarantee that these stories and poems are the absolute best of a strong set of contributions. I did not envy the multitalented James Aquilone the challenge of choosing the final pieces. This anthology could have been twice as long and still been of unwaveringly excellent quality.

If I had to choose a favorite, "Nothing Like the Sun: Rosaline's Satisfaction", Donna J.W. Munroe's rethinking of Romeo and Juliet from Rosalind's point of view, should be required high school reading along with play. Cindy O'Quinn's "Unrepentant" makes having read Titus Adronicus worthwhile. "I Demand the City of Flesh" by Maxwell I. Gold is one of the more brilliant titles I've ever read with a poem to back it up. Watching Falstaff get his comeuppance in Zachary Rosenberg's "The Hungry Wives of Windsor" is pure gory pleasure.

Do yourself a favor and pick this book up. It is both homage to and a continuation of the Bard's desire to please the masses, especially when the masses are looking for a bit of blood.

These were awful. I don't often DNF an anthology because the stories are short and there are usually a few great ones. I gave up about halfway because none of them were remotely entertaining.

Absolutely love the mix of horror and Shakespeare ideas. And they are short stories, so it doesn't feel like you are having to race to the end of the chapter because you are tired. Let's face it. Stopping in the middle is a chapter sucks
