Review
"Murder and Other Unnatural Disasters is a delightful twisting maze complete with Hollywood film production, murder and mayhem, sexy and quirky characters and a smart lawyer who is trying to make sense of it all." -Kimberley Troutte, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author
From the Inside Flap
and she's got game. Only problem is, it's not the one she should be
playing. Corrie Locke belongs behind a desk, not behind a Glock. She should
be taking VIP calls, not nosing around a questionable suicide. Instead,
she's hot on the trail of a murderer. Luckily, she's the daughter of a
late, great private eye and she's inherited his love of sleuthing...and
illegal weaponry. It doesn't help matters that her gene for caution is a
recessive one. Corrie finds herself in the center of a murder case,
unearthing suspects in shocking places. With a cold-blooded killer on the
loose, Corrie will have to up her game, or die trying.

About Lida
Bio for A Southern California Mystery series:
Lida Sideris’ first stint after law school was a newbie lawyer’s dream: working as an entertainment attorney for a movie studio…kind of like her heroine, Corrie Locke, except without the homicides. Lida is a recipient of the Helen McCloy Mystery Writers of America Scholarship award and a Killer Nashville, Silver Falchion Award Finalist for her last two books, which were both selected top mysteries of the year by Kings River Life Magazine. She lives in the northern tip of Southern California with her family, rescue dogs, and a flock of uppity chickens.
"A smart caper with a heroine to match." - Kirkus Recommended Review
"The characters are hilarious and this series is a must-read for fans of Stephanie Plum." ~ Kings River Life Magazine
“…An excellent read. It has everything needed for a cozy afternoon curled up on the sofa – murder, mystery, humor, and plenty of action. The plot is extremely detailed and so well written that I found myself hooked on page one.” - Readers’ Favorite
Bio for The Cookie Eating Fire Dog:
Lida Sideris loves baking and eating all kinds of cookies. Never, ever leave her alone with a batch of fresh baked cookies…if you want any left for yourself. This is her first book for children. Lida is a lawyer and mother of two human and two canine kids. She is an avid supporter of the three R’s: reading, writing, and rescue dogs.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2018A couple days ago I read about the second book in this series on the blog Dru's Book Musings. It was my introduction to Corrie Locke, and I KNEW I had to start at the beginning of the series...and after reading it in practically one sitting, here I am.
I LOVED the book. Carrie is on the wild side, but she has the business side down pat. She makes the deadlines and knows how to play the stupid office games to get things taken care of without delay. Apparently her work ethic has kicked in after attending what has to be the bottom of the list of law schools.
Meanwhile she is the daughter of a famous PI, and in fact was responsible for solving a major case for her dad. Now that he is gone (via an unknown poison) people assume she is still working cases, and are desperate for her help. Soon she finds herself working full time in the movie industry as an attorney, and working nights, early mornings, and weekends doing PI work. She doesn't seem to be able to say "no" when people ask.
One of the "cases" she is working on is proving a company man did not commit suicide as the police ruled it. This happened a short time before her job there, so she has to start from scratch and determine who in the company wanted him dead! Fortunately her best friend, Michael, is back in town and willing to help. His childhood buddy is the assistant DA, and he is also willing to help.
The resulting cases as well as her real job are rife with hilarious situations and pithy comments. A glimmer of romance shines through, but it is a little unsure where Carrie's affections will land! Can't wait to read the next book to learn more.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 30, 2015This is a page turner not only because the protagonist is today's multidimensional smart woman but also because the whole playing field is so elevated -- analytically, psychologically and culturally. She is a smarter, cooler, sexy Nancy Drew for the 21st century. Seriously intelligent part time P.I., Corrie Locke, has a cool exterior while suffering the same fashion and hair emergencies, romance fails, and career challenges as all of us who try in vain to "take care of business." It's candid and refreshing -- and the self effacing humor is enlightened and clever. Her non-stop inner dialogue reveals alternating cutting and sensitive instincts, as a kind of P.I. DNA draws her into a suspenseful murder case, a kidnapping and hiphop star's alien visitation -- all while trying to navigate pressures and questionable alliances at her new movie studio job. This book is primed for a mystery series and I can't wait for the next installation. This is one of the funnest books I've read in a long time.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 16, 2016The book is fast-moving and full of unexpected happenings. The development of the characters takes place over much of the book, that is, they are not well known in the beginning but become more understandable as the mystery unfolds. I enjoyed it, but it didn't grip me, making me want to find out whodunit.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2017Fast-paced, well-written mystery, with realistic characters. I know, I was in the film business and worked daily with people similar to those in this book. Twists and turns abound as an entertainment lawyer, Corrie Locke steps aside from representing clients to unearthing the truth about a questionable suicide. Enjoyable read, and a great study of human nature. This is Ms. Sideris debut novel and based on this book, I'm sure we'll be hearing and seeing a lot more of her in the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 1, 2021I enjoyed this book so much and can't wait to read the rest of the series. The wacky characters, the action, the funny scenes. It all makes me laugh and have fun. I didn't want it to end.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 17, 2016I really enjoyed this trip to Hollywood with Corrie Locke (as marvelously portrayed by Ms. Sideris), a sleuth who's fighting a family legacy of sleuthing even as she's forced to embrace it. Snappy dialogue, a smart protagonist, and a twisty plot made this a great read. I am looking forward to Corrie's next adventure.
