HF Antennas for Limited Space (Amateur Radio HF Antennas Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 84 ratings

What additional challenge is there to HF communications besides: overcoming often adverse propagation conditions; establishing solid contacts in the cacophony of pileups when conditions are good; acquiring the necessary operating skills? Finding space to install a large HF antenna, that's what! This e-book, with its many illustrations, will supply some of the most viable HF antenna solutions for restricted spaces, and explain the pros and cons of each. You will then be free to choose the solution that will “fit” into the space you have available while meeting most of your needs. The solution you opt for will involve compromises. But, at least, you will have the luxury of being able to choose.

This is book two of a four-book set by the author. I liked the specific information in this book and can use it again. I also learned some things about HF antennas.

Great book so far.still reading this

If what you are looking for is the most basic, non-technical introduction imaginable, you'll surely be happy with how readable this is. But the potential buyer should be aware that that is what this is. And I do mean basic. It took less than ten minutes to read it "cover" to virtual "cover." There is almost no technical information here beyond the wire-length-to-frequency formula, and nothing that is not freely available on a great many amateur radio websites. It omits information that is covered in the other three volumes of the series, so it has limited use as a stand-alone volume, and it's $18 for the four-volume set. That's more than 1/3 the price of the paperback edition of the venerable ARRL Antenna Book, which runs to nearly 1,000 pages and includes a CD with searchable text. If you are looking for more than a beginner's introduction, you may want to save your pocket change for a few weeks and spring for the big book.

This book was mostly about dipoles. It takes a lot of space for them and therefore I don't believe it is for limited space. Misleading title.

2.0 out of 5 stars too basic
Reviewed in Germany on September 15, 2016
if these basic antennas (the all known half wave dipole, for instance) are for limited space, then I wonder, what the author does consider large space. there are just the few widely known antenna types in this book together with tons of references to his other books.

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not look for space reduction in this volume.
Reviewed in Australia on July 15, 2024
The technical data in this document is a basic list of per-band antenna types available. Dipoles and verticle radiators are discussed, however limited space (limiting the space of these types or space reduction) is briefly discussed near the end of the 33 pages. Bypass this folio unless you have no amateur clubs or amateurs contactable or near your residence.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just a few pages

This 'book' is just a few pages long and contains information easily available elsewhere. It also suggests buying another book to get the information that should be in this book. Avoid.
