Booklover (Vino and Veritas) Kindle Edition
Two guys meet over a stack of romance novels. Soon they're turning pages late into the night...
Jamie Morin’s college GPA drops every time a cow breaks through a fence, but he’s determined to get his degree and keep his parents’ Vermont dairy farm afloat. He’d rather be reading than milking, but he can’t let his family down…not the way his brother did. So the last thing he needs is distraction in the form of an irresistible bookseller with a mysterious backstory.
Briar Nord has a lifetime of experience proving that happily-ever-afters only happen in his favorite books. But his luck might be changing. He’s got a great job at a bookstore, and he lives in a city that puts maple syrup on everything. But Briar knows not to trust anything or anyone. And that includes a gorgeous farm boy with soulful eyes and too many obligations.
When Jamie joins Briar’s romance novel book club, they both feel an instant connection. Soon they’re turning pages long into the night. But Briar’s past was bound to catch up with him. Sometimes, though, it takes two heroes to write a new ending . . .

"Booklover really has it all. Engrossing plot, endearing, multi-faceted characters with complex emotions, some hurt/comfort, low level angst, a little bit of suspense, some unexpected twists, and definitely sweet, sexy, swoony scenes between our two leading men....You don't have to be a booklover to love Booklover, but reading Booklover just may make a booklover out of you."

- Reviewed in the United States on June 5, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseOkay. This time around we have Jamie and Briar fighting their way toward their happy place. Jamie is drowning under school and work and his obligations to his family. He can't see a way where he gets the things he wants without letting his family down and he's not able to do that to them. So he pushes on and works himself to the bone on little to no sleep and a lot of can-do attitude. Which works, until it doesn't.
On Briar's end...well, the guy has been in some tough situations in his life and he might love Burlington and V&V, but he doesn't quite feel like he belongs. Falling for Jamie feels like something that can never happen because good things don't happen to guys like him. And even if it did happen? He's not good enough for a guy like Jamie.
Meanwhile, Jamie doesn't think he's a good match for anyone, much less someone like Briar. Jamie has no extra time and he doesn't see that changing any time in the near future. Why would ANYONE want to date a guy who can't guarantee he won't flake on them due to a dairy emergency?
A past that keeps popping up to haunt Briar, a dairy farmer who loves books, a book club that dives into romance, a few abandonment issues, a few sticky family issues, friends who are there when the chips are down, and two people who figure things out before it's too late. Good stuff!

- Reviewed in the United States on August 22, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThe book was okay and I did end up reading the whole thing without getting bored. I even teared up a little towards the end. I enjoyed the found family aspect of it.
*SPOILER*
I do not think Jamie was wrong for not showing up. His dad was chasing escaped Cows in the dark. What was he supposed to say? No? Like that was an actual emergency not just a gutter cleaning. Also the luke situation was so dangerous. Like they should’ve told anybody else, Jamie should’ve made sure he got in contact with someone after his phone broke, and Briar was doing way too much about the whole break up thing. Also this might be my last book in this series because they’re getting too predictable and the format is basically the same for all of them. And I didn’t like the “second chance” they mentioned giving. There was no second chance needed he didn’t do anything wrong and even if he did tell them about Luke he had no proof? And he never agreed to attempted to rob the store and his history was nobody’s business? How many employers do you give your life story to? None bc it’s not their business.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2024Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThere were some moments early on when I wasn’t sure I’d keep reading “Booklover.” First, I do get a bit tired when a story has too many sex scenes. They seem to indicate that sex is the most important part of a relationship. And there was a subplot I wasn’t fond of. But I kept going, skipped the next sex scene, and ended up thoroughly enjoying the novel. I know when I’m being manipulated, but damn, I still cried at the end. I’ll be reading more books by J.E. Birk.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 14, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI’m from Burlington, VT, so the Church St. references and Vermont setting were accurate and fun for me.
The writing was good. However, the 2 MC’s were hard for me to love…their “donut vs. cruller” debate seemed high school-ish, and I just wanted to shake some sense into both of them at separate times. Also, the sister already told the mother that Jamie was struggling with school/trying to keep up, so even though Jamie didn’t have aconversation with his dad about his workload, I would have thought the mom would have been able to step in and negotiate a compromise.

Booklover, book 6 in the Vino & Veritas series, is for all the romance loving bookworms out there! It’s my second favorite book in this series, coming in a close second to Headstrong. It’s so sweet and a bit of a heart-tugger that had me tearing up a time or two.
After meeting and realizing there’s a connection and attraction between them, Briar and Jamie set out to be “friends-with-benefits”. I’m sure I don’t have to tell you how well that works, do I?!? But it was cute how they did their best to keep the lines from blurring. They both tried so hard to keep real feelings out of the equation, as they each felt like they couldn’t commit fully to a relationship. Thanks to his past, Briar had a hard time believing in a happily ever after, especially for himself. And for Jamie, his school, family, and work obligations kept him so busy he didn’t think he had the time to spare for someone serious.
I really liked Jamie and Briar, and I loved seeing them work to figure out life and love. J.E. Birk did a really nice job balancing the heavier parts of their story with some really sweet and fun times. My heart hurt for all that Briar had gone through in his past and I loved that he found a wonderful group of friends who were able to show him he belonged. Jamie has such a loving family, but that doesn’t necessarily mean things are always rainbow and sunshine.
The journey to their HEA wasn’t always easy, there were some bumps along the way as they each needed to work through some things, but it was all so worth it in the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this story!!!
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI absolutely loved this story. It’s probably one of my favourites in this series. This is the first time I’ve read this author but I definitely want to check out their other books. I loved how this book was so involved with Vino & Veritas itself and I’m glad I just finished Harrison and Finn’s story as they were in it quite a bit as well.
This story had so much going for it: laughs, book club discussions, angst, mystery, sexy times and even some tears. It was such a great balance of everything. I loved both of these characters and seeing them figure out how they could live their lives for themselves and realize they deserve want they want too was wonderful!
I really loved Briar and couldn’t believe his childhood. I loved the bit of mystery and will he or won’t he we got with him and his story. So happy he got the happy ending he wanted and deserved. Jamie poor Jamie. Having to choose between what’s best for himself and family. Couldn’t imagine making that choice. Actually this story was full of big important choices and it makes it such an amazing read not knowing what they will choose!
I loved their HEA and it was perfect for them! I listened to the audiobook and was enjoying it so much I had to read the ebook to finish the book instead of waiting to finish listening tomorrow! I absolutely recommend this book and audio whether you’ve read any of the rest of the series or not.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jamie & Briar
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI liked that these guys were both in a booklover club. Poor Jamie is running himself ragged trying to be everything to everyone except maybe himself. Briar is running from his past. Maybe he didn't handle his past catching up with him in the best way but he got there in the end. A great read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly deep and heartwarming
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book was so sweet and heartwarming and I loved it. The exploration of recovering from mental trauma and how it affects everything in your life as well as your relationships and how you see yourself was wonderful; I’m so glad it wasn’t magically fixed by falling in love and involved working on himself in therapy and all the relationships built with different people not just the romantic one. His whole journey of realisation that he could have good things was honestly beautifully written and there might’ve been a few tears on my end.
Also really enjoyed the farming storyline and the struggle Jamie faced trying to balance his responsibilities and his feelings towards to farm, his dad & Aaron. It was a familiar struggle and I appreciated seeing it spoken about so frankly. The only thing I wish for was that we’d maybe seen a little more of Aaron/got a deeper explanation from him but all round absolutely loved the book and definitely adding some more JE Birk to my TBR 🥰

3.0 out of 5 stars Very cute story
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseVery cute story and easy to read!
Didn't love Brair's way he handeled his "situation" but get it where he is coming from and from the story telling perspective.
One question though, is Jeremy getting is own book??? Because I HAVE to know is story!!!!
