Turnabout (Vino and Veritas) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,120 ratings

"Auden and Carter are the swoony heroes I didn't know I needed in my life! Turnabout is spectacular, and everyone should read it." USA Today bestselling author Sarina Bowen

I don’t have time for an unplanned visit home to help out in my father’s struggling letterpress shop. My stint in Vermont will have to be short, for a couple of reasons:

One, I’m a busy executive trying to climb the corporate ladder.

Two, my ex is still my dad’s right-hand man in the shop. And I am not over him.

Nothing has changed at the Burlington shop. Auden still has his infuriatingly sexy Scottish accent. He’s still hot, and still stubborn. Between operating the antique press with his shirtsleeves rolled up, and moonlighting at Burlington’s hottest inclusive wine bar, he pushes every one of my attraction buttons.

My falling-in-love-again buttons, too. Except I’m his polar opposite. I love change, and taking chances. Everything he avoids in life.

So why am I trying to convince him to reach for more than we’ve ever dreamed of—the possibility of forever?

Turnabout is a second-chance romance with interfering family, groveling, and a large helping of artisan stationery geekery.

Review

I loved the way this narrator was able to convey both the frustration and the love behind these relationships. Honestly not sure how this could have been done better. One of the best narrations I've listened to this year.-- "Love Bytes Reviews"

A Second Chance is just what Carter and Auden needed

A Second Chance is just what Carter and Auden needed
Laurel Greer is another new to me author which is a wonderful perk of this series, I am getting to read so many authors I haven't had the pleasure of reading before. In this story we have Auden a sexy Scotsman that loves to wear kilts and Carter a deliciously sexy man that speaks French...YUMMY! Carter needs to return home to help out his father's printing business while he deals with some major issues but that means he will be working closely with his ex, Auden. Have you ever thought about the one that got away? Well, for Carter that is Auden. They have great chemistry but there's a lot of hurt between them that needs to be worked through in order to get their HEA. I enjoyed watching them not only reconnect but rediscover one another. While there was a lot that I enjoyed about the book there was a big heaping dose of dislike towards Carter's father. This story had a light feel to it but then Carter's dad would pop up and toss some harshness around which I didn't like. This was a nice addition to the series and I will definitely be reading more of Laurel Greer's work. This is a series of interconnected standalone stories so you can jump in at any point or read them all from the beginning. If you enjoy MM Romances or Second Chance Romances I would recommend this book to you. Happy Reading!!! **I have voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book for my Blog, Nadine's Obsessed with Books**

Turnabout is a complete standalone, there’s no need to read any other book to love it, and it’s part of the True North series set in Sarina Bowen’s World of True North. And it is a beautiful book. Really worth reading if you ask me. It’s certainly an outstanding addition to the series.

Turnabout is a second chance romance with opposites attract and grumpy vs. sunshine, and it includes an unexpected snowstorm with only one bed and lots of laughter and beautiful stationary. I was especially captivated with the letterpress setting and in learning how the artisanal stationary magic works.

Carter Prescott and Auden Macarthur were happy once. When they were young and foolish and in love. But that was a long time ago.

Now they have regrets and hurt feelings, but their chemistry is still combustible. And the sparks they create are turning sharing a workplace into a fire hazard.

But when feelings get involved, they will have to decide if there’s still something between them worth fighting for, or if the love they once shared is destined to turn into ashes.

Turnabout is a wonderful story. What I loved the most is that it’s beautifully written. The writing is as lovely as the stationary Auden makes. It’s a joy to read. I also loved the characters. They are very well rounded and feel like real people with eeal feelings and real lives, and their journey is very well developed.

You have Auden, the Vermonty Scot with trust issues and a deeply rooted fear of change. He’s closed-off, stubborn and adorable. And then there’s Carter, the successful Suit who left home behind mostly because he felt like he didn’t belong. And pride. Their relationship was the casualty of too many words left unsaid and unshared feelings. But their love survived. They have both some growing up to do but they will definitely steal your heart from the beginning.

I loved Carter’s family, especially his Aunt Bee. She’s a meddler and definitely made it count. You get to see a couple of characters from other books in Vino and Veritas, both the bookstore and the wine bar, and that’s also really fun.

Turnabout is an emotional story filled with fun and heat and feels, that will leave you smiling and that you won’t be able to put down. I loved it and I highly recommend it.

This is my first book by this author and I searched for another before I was even finished.... However, the ending left a lot to be desired in my opinion.
The ending isn't a forgone conclusion for much of the book, and I was really disappointed that this didn't have the less expected end.

When I heard Laurel Greer was partaking in the Vino & Veritas series, I was excited. When I heard she had a Scottish hero, I was ecstatic. When I heard Gary Furlong was narrating, I damn nearly swooned. Furlong is one of my favorite narrators. He moves seamlessly back and forth between American, Scottish, British, Russian, Irish etc. I had a hard time pinning down which was his original accent and which came from that talented brain of his. So how did I think he did on this production? One of his best performances. Just a bang-up job.

Now, it helped he had good material to work with. Immersing myself into the world of old-fashioned printing presses was fascinating. I never considered where those engraved or embossed invitations, menus, and programs came from. Now I know. And I understand their fight to stay relevant in a world where anyone can fire up the inkjet and put out something pretty.

Carter grew up in that world. His father has owned and run the business in Burlington, Vermont forever. His father assumed Carter would graduate from college and take up his rightful place as heir apparent. Carter met Auden in university and Auden came to work at the shop. Upon graduation, the men were faced with the decision to stick with the status quo or to move on. Carter wanted to modernize and expand the business. His father was absolutely resistant. Carter decided to leave and head north to Canada.

That left Auden in a quandary. Stay in Vermont where everything was safe and known, or follow the man he loved into a precarious situation where he had no guarantee of success. Well, Auden chose safety – and he had good reasons. Reasons he never shared with Carter. The rift was inevitable and felt permanent.

Until the day Carter’s dad calls in a panic and asks Carter to come back and mind the shop while he rushes to Europe to try to save his marriage. Now, Carter loves his parents, so this is a no-brainer. He takes family emergency leave from his job with a huge corporation and heads back to small town Vermont. He knows he’s going to see Auden, but that’s just something he’ll have to deal with.

To say the first meeting doesn’t go well is an understatement. Both men still resent the other for having chosen career over their burgeoning relationship. Both hold grievances. Both are stubborn as mules. A few times I wanted to knock their heads together to see if any sense might fall out, but, alas, this is fiction and I had to settle for yelling at them (in my mind, anyway…don’t want to scare my dog…)

I knew they’d have a tough road back to each other. Back to happiness. Especially because they both had established lives in different countries and neither seemed ready to let go. Of each other or their respective careers. I despaired of them ever finding happiness. I needn’t have worried. This is a romance and I got my happy ending. And I loved the grand gesture.

So I’ve waxed poetic about Gary’s performance and I have gone on about the story. All that’s left is for you to try the book and enjoy.

I’ve felt pretty neutral towards most of the books in this series so far - I liked most of them, gave more than a couple 4 stars and I think a few of them 5 stars, but I also DNF’d some and didn’t care for others. This one is definitely my favorite so far. Whether it’s the author’s writing, which I liked better than most of the others, or the characters and the tropes in this book, I thoroughly enjoyed this one and I can see myself reading it again. I loved Auden and Carter and their dynamics, their shared history and their journey to finding each other again. I’m looking forward to reading more of Laurel Greer’s books now.

Loved this installment of the Vino and Veritas universe. Auden the sexy Scottish bartender and Carter his too tightly wound ex, twist and turn through the story line while slowly moving towards love, compromise and happiness. It's awesome. Must read.

I loved the plot and the emotional complexity of the characters and their situations. I would give this book 4.5 stars. But as a Scot, the portrayal of Auden was a mix between Scottish, English, and a hint of Australian. Also, there were so, so many references to his accent and kilts and such. For an American, I would guess this is a great fantasy version of a Scot, but it was jarring.

Again though, excellent book otherwise and I would love to read the author's other work so long as it doesn't involve anything Scottish.

I enjoyed it but it was so long and dragged in places. I like the characters and printing press though I’d like to have more of that and more sex over the kit. I usually avoid books on 2nd chances. This didn’t have any flash backs I don’t think. They usually make up for missing the first kiss. It could’ve been great but didn’t quite work for me. A new author that I hadn’t read before. Only reading as it was part of the series. I might read another book by them.

This book was a lot of fun to read. I loved how you started out feeling like Carter was a selfish dick then realizing there really was so much more to it. And Auden, oh my. Loved him, but absolutely wanted to slap him upside the head a few times. And those aunts? Hahaha! Omg. The coat scene. Still laughing.
