- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2017Alexa Rowan's first romance novel is an impressive debut. Her protagonists are as sexy as they are intelligent, and the challenges and conflicts they deal with are both real and relatable. Rowan is as adept at depicting the struggles of a savvy business owner as she is at capturing the raw excitement of her sensual escapades. And in between, the writing flows nicely and provides just enough plot and ancillary characters to fill in the central relationship between Brenna and Cal. The result is a fast-paced and compelling story that makes the reader root for them to achieve their happily ever after.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 15, 2022I fell in love with Brenna and Cal, the heroine and Hero of this contemporary romance. Great chemistry. Hot, steamy scenes. Perfect level of angst. No villains. Skillful, sure writing with deft hand at dialogue AND description. All the feels. Fun Boston setting. Sigh. I definitely recommend!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 13, 2016Loved this debut novella. It's a quick read featuring a hero and heroine who are strong and know what they want. They both have their eyes on the careers, but a funny little thing called love gets in their way. It's a joy to see how these two get together and figure things out. Loved the bits of humor here and there, not to mention the hot bedroom scenes. I'm very much looking forward to the next book in this well-written series.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 9, 2016It’s no wonder the author won the 2015 Golden Heart for Short Contemporary with this book. It’s well written, with believable stakes, and a big law firm backdrop that really rings true!
Cal Wilcox is hell bent on making partner at his prestigious law firm. Brenna Nakamura is just as credentialed as Cal, but she left the corporate fast lane behind when she gave up her high-paid consulting job to run her own small business as a massage therapist. Cal and Brenna are irresistibly attracted, but Cal is pretty sure a relationship with Brenna will endanger his partnership goals. He doesn’t need the distraction, and part of him wonders what the higher ups at the firm will think if he turns up to a function with a sexy masseuse on his arm. Brenna needs to focus on her struggling business, so she agrees to a long-distance, “friends with benefits” thing. It’s only after Cal blows it with Brenna, big time, that he realizes he’s falling for her. He needs to win her over, but it’s going to be an uphill battle.
These are two smart people with very different ideas about what success looks like, and they realize they’re going to need more than chemistry in order to make a relationship work. I can’t wait for the next installment in her BigLaw series!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2016I must admit this was my first romance reading, I’m more of an action adventure reader. I enjoyed the plot, dialogue, character development and certainly the sexy elements. An excellent read and I look forward to more in the BigLaw Series by Alexa Rowan.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2016Although Winning Her Over is the first in Alexa Rowan’s new BigLaw Series, it is a stand-alone book. The story is a sweet tale of girl meets boy, boy screws up, boy wins girl back, and everyone lives happily ever after. It is a quick, uncomplicated read. Unfortunately, that is a criticism as well as a compliment.
Cal Wilcox is unrealistically hot, as most romance heroes are, and probably more so when you consider the hours that are involved with making partner at a major law firm. His ambition doesn’t leave time for lengthy workouts and meal planning, yet he is physically a calendar-worthy specimen of man meat. His sexiest feature to me, however, is his confidence. Using charm, not force, he doesn’t take “no” for an answer when he sets his sights on Brenna Nakamura. That, more than anything, made him appealing to me.
Brenna is to be commended for making her dreams come true and walking away from a lucrative career to do it. She works hard to fight negative stereotypes about massage therapists and make her small business successful. I liked that Brenna was smart, but made the time when someone came along who was worth the effort. She stood up for herself when circumstances necessitated it rather than adopting a victim mentality. She was equally ready to forgive when confronted with a man who was truly repentant. Sadly, all these adults behaving like actual adults, while being a refreshing change from the standard romance fare, doesn’t sustain much in the way of drama or conflict. This is the one to read by the pool this summer when you’re sun-drowsy because there aren’t many plot points to hold on to and it can be finished in a single afternoon.
Rowan has invited us to expect a series, “where smart, ambitious heroes and heroines struggle with realistic conflicts as they seek love, success, and that elusive work-life balance.” She’s a good writer and I’m eager to see her explore this “elusive” problem in future books, hopefully with more dialog and more conflict, and without relying on typical stereotypes.
My Rating: B, Liked It

- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2017A great read! Though Calvin and Brenna are from different worlds--he's an attorney on the rise at a big law firm, she's trying to make a go of it with her small business as a masseuse--sparks really fly when they're together. You know they are meant for each other, but their road to happily-ever-after is as bumpy as you'd expect in a romance. I found the way the story unfolded, in a realistic way that doesn't rely on cliches or tired tropes, quite refreshing.
