What Lies Inside: A Vampire Paranormal Romance (Blood Bound Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 536 ratings

A page-turning paranormal series for fans of Twilight and A Shade of Vampire.

Amelia never asked to unleash her inner vampire…she never even knew it existed.

Amelia is sucked into a nightmare and killed at the hungry fangs of a monster…but then she wakes up and everything has changed. Her whole life has been a lie. What she thought she was—human—is nothing but a disguise, one she never even knew she was wearing.

Amelia is a vampire and she always has been.

Her family and even best friend Kendrick have known the truth all along, a lie they claim they kept to protect her. Sixteen going-on-forever, Amelia’s violent hunger could quiet a classroom in seconds. It could expose them and lead to her death. Killing for blood is forbidden—but vampires aren’t the only ones enforcing the rules.

Another race exists that is more than willing to keep the toll down by any means they see fit.

With her life spiraling, Amelia lives in fear of the day she finally loses control. The day she finally kills in cold blood. But then she meets Ty, a guy who is strangely familiar and hides a dark and dangerous secret of his own, and everything changes. Amelia senses Ty’s unnatural strength and, even more than that, for the first time she feels safe from herself.

But lies and secrets won’t stay buried forever as her telling dreams turn into warnings. Amelia is unaware of the superior power she possesses and the danger she is in. Not everyone is who they claim to be. Not even Ty. Falling for him will be impossible not to do, but staying alive after that?

Falling in love may just cost Amelia everything: her friends, her family…even her life.

What a fun and enjoyable read. This book is truly one of a kind. I just loved reading it. First off, J.L. Myers has done an amazing job with the unique take of vampires and shape shifters. I liked that the heroine was a vampire. It was pretty cool seeing a vampire perspective in a human world. In addition, all the paranormal creatures in the story were super cool. They were hot, yeah, but they weren't ungodly perfect either.

Secondly, the chemistry between Amelia and Ty. They had so much chemistry that it was literally sizzling the pages. The kissing scenes were super sweet. I also like how both of the characters had their own interesting qualities. Amelia is super strong and I liked that she is resilient. Tyler is such a sweet book boyfriend. I really wanted him to be real.

Lastly, the entire action and over all pacing was really good. I liked how there were twists and turns thrown in however, there was enough that the book kept me on my toes while at the same time letting me become emotionally invested in the characters. Also, the writing is really good. There is a lot of showing and feel to the writing.

In summary, one click this awesome YA PNR romance. It may seem like Twilight in the beginning, but trust me it is not. It is so unique and it features a heroine who is super strong and someone you want to root for.

Amelia Athobry-Lamont is a normal teenager until she starts transforming into a vampire ... so it's off to a new city and new school for Amelia and her family. As if it wasn't bad enough that Amelia is fighting off her bloodlust, handsome classmate Ty Malau, whose potent scent makes her mouth water, wants to date her. When Ty beats Amelia's brother Dorian in a swim race, Amelia agrees to go out with him to find out his secrets. Amelia finds out plenty, such as the fact that her kind and his kind are enemies, but the more she gets to know Ty, the more she starts falling for him, and vice versa. Their families aren't happy when they find out but Amelia and Ty are determined to make it work, but with people plotting against them, do they even stand a chance?

J.L. Myers delivers an action-packed, exciting and steamy story so full of twists and turns that you won't be able to put it down. I can't wait to read Made By Design, Book 2 of the Blood Bound series.

Intrigue, drama, romance and lots of heart-stopping supernatural characters; these are a handful of reasons why What Lies Inside is one of my new favorite books. What Lies Inside is a young adult paranormal romance with lots of thrills and deception. Fair warning – once you start reading you will not want to stop. Now I’m over here obsessing to buy the next one.

I love the characters; each one is unique and plays an important role. The author has written an extremely engaging and detailed story. There is close to 450 pages and every one of them is well used to transport the readers into a heart-stopping ride.

What Lies Inside is the first book in the Blood Bound series. I feel these books are most comparable to Twilight, but very different in many areas. While romance plays an important and prominent role in the series, there is a bigger picture surrounding the star-crossed lovers and explores deeper into history and vampire politics.

Overall, I very much enjoyed this book and highly recommend this series. I will be impatiently waiting to devour book two.

I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I love J.L. Myers’ novels so it’s no surprise that I was delighted to get my hands on What Lies Inside, Book 1 of her new Blood Bound series. This book is, quite simply, a superb vampire paranormal romance and definitely recommended. It had just what I wanted and was well written and with a great plot and great cast of characters. I frankly adore Amelia and Ty And think that the publishers are correct in labeling this the right paranormal series for fans of Twilight and A Shade of Vampire. The rest of the cast of characters is pretty amazing as well. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises - these two books definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book set is most definitely one to read, it is easy to highly recommend.

Wow I was hesitant on reading this due to the story line being close to others but not was I wrong.
The forbidden love that Ty and Amelia have nothing can break it, or can something.
Amelia is a turn vampire, her mother was attacked and she was pregnant with Amelia and her Twin Brother Dorian. They were all turned Vampire by a man they grew up to believe to be their Uncle.
Amelia and Dorian do not know they are Vampires until one day Amelia is hungry and only the taste of the bloody red meat in the fridge can satisfy.
Amelia and Dorian are sat down to be told the truth, Dorian has not shown signs of turning and Amelia is horrified of the monster she has become. She runs away to find her best friend and then attacks her first human victim. She is stopped by a hooded stranger and begs to be killed.
Things change from there and Amelia and her family move. Amelia is scared of herself and cannot accept being a vampire.
Things change when she meets Ty, she is drawn to him by his scent.
Ty and Amelia have a world wind love that is challenged all the time.
Can they survive, will their love conquer. I need to know more. I need book 2.
I loved this story, it kept my attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excitement, Danger and Romance!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 23, 2020
I may not have been a young adult or new adult for many years. I may prefer standalone stories. I may like the main characters to be a little bit older. But, I LOVED this book! It was exciting, romantic, full of danger, suspense, twists and drama. The main characters, Amelia and Ty were excellent but there were many others who played a large part in the story and who were important in its developement - Dorian (Amelia' s brother), Kendrick (best friend) and Marcus. Amelia, a new vampire was in turmoil when she found out who she had become but this did not stop her falling in love with Ty who was a lycanthrope and as such the mortal enemy of vampires. Amelia and Dorian, who was also a new vampire, have various encounters with both humans and lycanthropes which don't always go well as they are tricked, betrayed and attacked when they least expect it. Amelia and Ty have a turbulent relationship but cant keep away from each other. The story then continues with both of their families and many friends against this relationship. When Amelia is sent to the vampire castle in Alaska her life is in danger and she needs help from unexpected sources in order for her to survive. The twists and turns in this book kept me on the edge of my seat/bed throughout. Although this book reminded me of Twilight which I also loved, it should be given credit in its own right and I thoroughly recommend it to all who like this genre. Can't wait to read the next book!

4.0 out of 5 stars WOW!
Reviewed in France on October 4, 2013

    Enjoy!

If you thought being a regular teenager was hard, well meet Amelia. Hormones are nothing compared to blood lust. I really enjoyed this book and the characters within. The story flows at a good steady pace that makes you want to keep reading and discovering all about these characters. I read and reviewed an ARC I received for an honest opinion.

Fantastic story with twists, turns, betrayal, love...it has enough of it all and then some. And well written to twist and turn but keep you in the story path...onto the next one :)
