Mr. President (White House Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 2,717 ratings

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Katy Evans comes a sizzling new contemporary romance.

He's won the hearts of millions. But is he willing to lose his?

I met the president’s son when we were both young. Matthew Hamilton was handsome, polished, and intelligent. I’d never met a guy like him.

He promised me that he’d never run for president. I promised that if he did, I’d be by his side.

Three terms later, an invitation to join Matthew Hamilton’s campaign is the most exhilarating opportunity I’ve ever experienced. I'm determined to make a difference; he is determined to win.

Focused on his goal, Matt is steadfast, ruthless, and disarming. All eyes are on him and his popularity is surging. But soon, the next possible president of the United States is possessing me in more ways than one—and despite the risks, I'm helpless to resist.

We're stealing touches, stealing moments, and stealing away at night. But our chemical connection is quickly becoming dangerously combustive, putting not only my heart, but Matt's chance at the presidency on the line.

Winning will take everything. Walking away will be the hardest thing of all.

Can Katy Evans do no wrong!!?
Let me start off by saying that I love ALL of Katy's work, so this may come off as biased when I say that I REALLY loved this novel. Mr. President is by far my favorite thus far. Her ability to create chemistry between characters on paper is a gift! I read this in one sitting....(no shame in my reading game).... and literally was about depressed when I finished. I'm so excited for Commaner in Chief to come out!!

"He's as hot, smooth, and rich as a lava cake. And he makes politics thrilling."

FINAL DECISION: I loved this book and I can only hope that the next book will live up to the standard set here. This book has all kinds of sexual and emotional tension with an incredibly sweet and romantic relationship. A win for Hamilton!

THE STORY: As a child, Charlotte Wells met the president and his son Matt Hamilton. She promised Matt that if he ever ran for president, she would support him. Now years after the assassination of his father, Matt has taken up the challenge to be the youngest man to ever be elected president. Charlotte signs on to his campaign. As the two spend time together, the attraction between them is obvious and forbidden. Matt knows all to well the sacrifice that being the president means for a wife and family and has no intention of having either. Rather Matt intends to dedicate himself to the American people. Despite this, he can't resist Charlotte even as they risk scandal for what they both know must be a temporary relationship.

OPINION: I approached this book with a tremendous amount of dread. After the miserable political season this year, the last thing I wanted was a political themed romance. But this book surprised me and actually made me feel good about the possibilities of politics even if our current reality stinks.

I absolutely loved the story in this book. Charlotte and Matt are so wonderful together. Their romance is sweet and incredibly romantic while at the same time the two are hiding from the press. They know that their romance has an end date even as the two become more engrossed in one another.

Charlotte has had a crush on Matt for years. When the two encounter one another again, the sparks fly between them. She is a do-gooder who feels that she needs to dedicate herself to something. That thing becomes the election of Matt Hamilton. She believes in all his idealism and his reality. I liked her because even though she is young at twenty-two, she is a hard worker and a realist about her relationship with Matt.

Matt Hamilton is just adorable (and gosh, I wish there was a real version of him running for president). He is strong and dominant and funny and sweet. He is completely dedicated to his run for president to fulfill his father's legacy but he risks it all to be with Charlotte. Even as his instincts and those around him keep warning him, he cannot help but fall for Charlotte.

What makes this book for me is how Charlotte and Matt develop a relationship even as they are determined to remember that their affair has an expiration date. Matt takes incredible risks for Charlotte even as he claims that their relationship has to end. Charlotte gives everything to Matt even as she knows that she could be the cause of his ruin.

The tension of these two obviously falling in love despite their best intentions not to made this book just sing for me. The angst and the desperation of these two was beautiful especially when combined with the sweet situations they find themselves in.

This book is sexy but it was the emotional purity between Charlotte and Matt that made this book for me.

This book ends on a cliffhanger. I've been burnt by multi-book relationship stories before but I hope that the next book in the series lives up to this one.

WORTH MENTIONING: This is part of a continuing series with these characters so their relationship is not resolved in this book.

CONNECTED BOOKS: MR. PRESIDENT is the first book in the White House series.

STAR RATING: I give this book 5 stars.

NOTE: I received an ARC of this book in order to provide a review. I was not required to write a positive review. All opinions contained herein are my own.

Reminiscent of the Camelot Era of the Kennedy administration, Mr. President is a tumultuous love story about sacrificing one’s own wants and needs in order to bring positive change to the American people. And Matt Hamilton has my vote!

"The deep desire to inspire people, to take an active part in the life of the country…attracts our best people to political life…we should all do something to right the wrongs that we see and not just complain about them. We owe that to our country." ~ Jacqueline Kennedy

Matthew Hamilton was born to be President of the United States…or so his father had always told him. As the son of a former POTUS, Matt grew up in the White House in front of cameras and paparazzi while dreaming of freedom to do all the things he never could under America’s watchful eye. Until the day his father was assassinated. So for years Matt fiercely tried to protect his privacy, quietly obtaining a law degree and expanding his family’s real estate holdings. Yet his father’s unsolved murder has haunted him, giving him the push he needs to finally step into the limelight and be the man his father groomed and the nation has waited for.

Facing insurmountable odds, at 35-years-old and still a bachelor, Matthew Hamilton is running for President—independently. He’s everything you’d want in a presidential candidate: intelligent, knowledgeable, honest, devoted, compassionate, understanding, attractive, charming, charismatic, and he loves his country. He wants equality and prosperity for all Americans, so he’s determined that when he gets to the top his cabinet will be appointed on merit and not on political favors either party owes. He wants to bring in people who want to make a difference; who’ve made it a habit of thinking of others before themselves.

“Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans—born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage—and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world. Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty. This we pledge—and more…

…Finally, to those nations who would make themselves our adversary, we offer not a pledge but a request: that both sides begin anew the quest for peace, before the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity in planned or accidental self-destruction…So let us begin anew—remembering on both sides that civility is not a sign of weakness, and sincerity is always subject to proof. Let us never negotiate out of fear. But let us never fear to negotiate. Let both sides explore what problems unite us instead of belaboring those problems which divide us…

…All this will not be finished in the first one hundred days. Nor will it be finished in the first one thousand days, nor in the life of this Administration, nor even perhaps in our lifetime on this planet. But let us begin. In your hands, my fellow citizens, more than mine, will rest the final success or failure of our course. Since this country was founded, each generation of Americans has been summoned to give testimony to its national loyalty. The graves of young Americans who answered the call to service surround the globe. Now the trumpet summons us again—not as a call to bear arms, though arms we need—not as a call to battle, though embattled we are—but a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation—a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease and war itself. Can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, North and South, East and West, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? Will you join in that historic effort? In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility—I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it—and the glow from that fire can truly light the world. And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man...” ~ President John F. Kennedy

The daughter of a U.S. senator, Charlotte Wells is no stranger to politics, though she has no political ambitions herself. She’s hard working and passionate about serving the public, helping others in need, and she loves the presidency—always has. She’s America’s darling—untouched by political scandal. And Matt wants her on his team. After all, she’d told him when she was just eleven that if he ever ran for president that she would help him. So when he offers her an invitation to join his campaign, she can’t refuse. He was her first crush…he’s her candidate…and now he’s her boss. But a presidential campaign can be derailed by a myriad of things and as desire begins to unfurl, Matt and Charlotte find themselves playing with fire.

Matt and Charlotte’s romance was forbidden but the attraction and chemistry between them was undeniable. If their affair were to be discovered, it would mean the end of Matt’s presidential candidacy. There were only a few things that bothered me about this story. The first being the typographical errors—proofread…proofread…proofread! From the author’s acknowledgments page I saw that there was a copy editor, proofreader, and several beta readers, yet no one caught any of the misspelled words within the story? An editor should never rely on spellcheck because it won’t catch words that are spelled correctly yet don’t belong in a sentence. I also felt the story was somewhat repetitive. You can only say the same thing so many times before a reader questions why the author is telling us the same thing for the fourth or fifth time. Lastly, I had a slight issue with the age difference between Matthew and Charlotte. Not because there was a thirteen year gap, but because Charlotte seemed a bit too immature for him. In many ways she was still the eleven year old girl who had crushed on the President’s son. Don’t get me wrong, I actually liked her. She was down-to-earth, compassionate, and genuinely wanted to do the right thing—to help others in need, and she kept Matt grounded. I empathized with Charlotte because I felt her sadness knowing that if he won the election that she would lose him to the American people. Yet she believed in him and his ability to do the job better than anyone else, so she was willing to make that sacrifice. Overall, MR. PRESIDENT was a swoon worthy political romance and I find myself looking forward to reading the sequel: COMMANDER IN CHIEF.

This woman writes a book like no other.

She's given us amazing characters before, but Matt Hamilton (sighs), no words can express enough the heart this man holds.

A love for his country, his mother and his father. Dedication, the need for change. It's Very powerful, very emotional and very good.

Charlotte a woman who was once a girl with a crush. Idolizing a boy and a man. A heart of gold. A dedicated believe in the greater good and of saving her country.

Despite their feelings, the country comes first. The White House is no place for love. Not with a country requiring so much time and effort.

Their journey is emotional. It's powerful. It's beautiful and over before it begins.

A must read. Bring on book two.

Amazing characters .. fantastic book. ..it drove me crazy with a thought of what will happen next. The chemistry between Matt and Charlotte is explosive despite the age difference shown between them. And because they are shown as childhood aquaintances , it feels correct and meant to be. I love political romance and I am so happy this book didnt disappoint!

5.0 out of 5 stars Katy Evans é diva!
Reviewed in Brazil on May 19, 2017

Diga-me.""

No próximo ano?
