I was broken. Someone had broken me. Or broken my heart. The mark on my face should mean I was powerful. I could move faster than the eye could track. But thanks to being held against my will and viciously experimented on the resulting scarring to my heart meant I would be lucky to ever run again, even at normal speeds. No wonder Ringo didn’t want me.
Ringo As a Marine and specialist bodyguard, feeling helpless wasn’t something I was used to, but the day I’d carried Shae out of that laboratory, his body burned, barely breathing, had just about broken me. Then one innocent kiss finished me off, and I ran. I was too old, too jaded, and the last thing Shae needed.
Leaving Shae broke my heart, but coming back might just rip it in two.
Victoria writes about guys loving other guys in between dodging bullets, kidnappers, and serial killers. She enjoys putting them through hell to get their happy ever after—it’s a character flaw she embraces.
She also believes that family is who you choose, that dogs are often much wiser than human beings, and that we’re steadily destroying the world we live in.
And if people read more books, they'd be much happier.
Oh this was good. I love seeing the development of the world, although it makes me a bit sad knowing we'll likely not get more for a while. I may actually reread the first enhanced series for fun again, it's such a fascinating world that is kind of paranormal but also rooted in our world. I loved this book as much as I did the rest of the series and will miss it greatly
All of Me by Victoria Sue is a gripping second-chance romance and a fantastic continuation of the Enhanced Security series. If you loved One Step Sideways, this follow-up focusing on Shae and Ringo (aka Drake!) is a must-read.
Shae, who we met in book one, finally gets the spotlight—and a shot at love and healing after enduring years of trauma and experimentation. He’s struggling physically and emotionally, but his connection with Ringo is undeniable. Ringo, older and emotionally guarded, doesn’t believe he deserves someone like Shae, but being thrown back into close proximity—and danger—forces them to confront their feelings.
I loved watching their slow reconnection and how fiercely Shae knew Drake was his. Their dynamic was heartfelt and frustrating in the best way (shoutout to the team practically begging Ringo to pull it together). The mystery subplot was full of twists that kept me guessing till the end, with attacks targeting Ringo and questions around who’s behind them.
There’s also fun continuity from previous books—Kane, Danny, and the rest of Rawlings Security all show up, and the “Enhanced” powers are evolving in cool ways. The tension, found family vibes, and steady romance pacing made this a standout.
Highly recommend reading book one first for the full experience. Can’t wait for more in this world!
All of Me is the second book in the Enhanced World Security series. In my opinion this series is best read in order. This series is related to the Enhanced World series also by Victoria Sue, reading it first will give you a great introduction to the world the Enhanced World Security series is set in. We continue the series with Shae and Drake. Shae is out of the research lab and Drake is brought back to protect him again. I loved the characters and the connection I felt between them. This book took me on such a rollercoaster ride with all the twists and turns. I couldn't tell where we were going but it was great reading. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book and series as 5 star reads.
That's it. I'm officially addicted to this series and will likely come back to it time and time again.
Shae is such a great character. I really enjoyed watching him grow into himself and his situation. The whole hot-and-cold thing he and Drake had going on made me teary-eyed more than once, so I assure you the emotional beats are there. Drake is amazing but oh man, did I want to shake him multiple times. The background plot was compelling and complex--not in a convoluted way, just...there was a lot going on and it was fascinating to see it all come together in the end.
I continue to be utterly enthralled with the concept of the enhanced. I understand it's not exactly an original thing, but the way it was handled just hits different to me than all the other ways I've experienced. Makes it feel new and fresh.
I can't speak to the realistic aspect of any of it (fostering, medical stuff, legal things, etc). But it's fiction and I'm not looking for factual realism. This was a fun read (I don't mean lighthearted, I mean I had a good time in the end). I can't wait to see what comes next (please please please be many more books for me to devour. *please*).
I really enjoyed this one! It pulled me in from beginning to end and I loved getting to know Shae and seeing him get a second chance and a better shot at life. We met him in the first book and I loved that this one was about him and him finding his happy ending. Ringo and Shae definitely had a connection from the beginning but Ringo was trying to keep some distance between them as he thinks he is too old and doesn't feel that he deserves that shot with Shae. I enjoyed watching Ringo step back in and them spending time in closer proximity bringing things back together for them. Ringo definitely has some things that he needs to deal with and overcome to really give him and Shae a chance. In the midst of this, there are incidents and attacks happening at Ringo's home. Then they get more thrown at them and Ringo still swinging from one side to the other on being with Shae or not. They have to figure out what and who is behind the attacks and why. Things don't entirely make sense for who and what is behind everything. I really enjoyed the development of the story and the characters and watching things unfold. It was entertaining and engaging and I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to more in the series and what is coming next. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
The MCs featured as side characters in the first book in the series, I would recommend reading that first. Shae has been treated terribly all his life and is rescued from yet another appalling situation where his heart has been badly damaged by testing. Ringo hasn't grown up unscathed either, and he feels he is far too old for Shae. The plot has some unique twists and complications, making for very interesting reading.
We jump back into the aftermath of ONE STEP SIDEWAYS with Shae now free of testing and trying to move past Drake. Drake, after skipping town, is brought back in town to protect Shae once again. You get the & of Drake, how could you not, the age gap is significant. However, you feel their connection and understand why Shae needs someone like Drake to hold him together. This story is full of so many twists and turns. You honeTherestly don't know which way is up and down, and that's what makes it amazing. With all that is happening, it still works and makes sense. There isn't any extra hoopla. It all just ties together in the end. These two don't have an easy go, but wow, do they work well together? Mix in seeing their beautiful family continue to grow and feel my heart with joy. I'm hoping to see more from this universe.
I would like to thank GRR for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
awwwww what an HEA!! There was just soooo much to this installment and i could not get enough of IT! First off, age-gap isn't really my thing, but i am a super fan of bodyguard/protection dynamics. Throw in some furbabies and a farm on the mend and this installment had all my feelings in a chokehold from start to finish!
Precious Shae made my heart all squishy, and his vulnerable yet stubborn ass self made me want to wrap him up in hugs and feed him till itis did its thing! Food comas are healing work. I said what i said.
And ok imo Ringo didn't fight hard against his thing with Shae so the capitulation did seem a touch soft lol, but it's understood that their off page past was legit so i wasn't too bothered by the emotional pacing in this.
Loved all the enhanced ops that makes this series what it is! It's just exciting and cool to read in general. For me, any sort of ex-military flex kicks action-thrillers up a few notches, and what Victoria Sue has created here is a fascinating and compelling world i'm stoked to explore more of!
I loved viewing enhanced powers from Shae's perspective, and i thought that the cost of using his ability in this was an impactful one. The consequences weren't just physical but emotional too, where his guardianship of his baby sister added to the psychological weight behind his choices. It choked me up from the moment she came on the scene and he started to recognize that and, by extension, a reflection of what Ringo felt for him. Both Shae and Ringo facilitated two different but very valid expressions of "protector" and that really resonated with me.
I was hooked to the narrative style and tone, the twisty bits, the investigative intrigue, and all the scary/creepy/dangerous sh!t! There was action, there was loving, there was emotion and there was healing! So many levels and all of them worked really well for me!
Absolutely cannot wait to explore more of this wild and exciting world that Victoria Sue has built here, because i had such an awesome time with this Enhanced World Security team and i am certain that everything that comes next will be just as amazing! Loved this!
Independent reviewer for GRR, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is the second book in the Enhanced Security series, and I strongly recommend that you read One Step Sideways before this one. This book follows on a few months after that one.
Shae is damaged due to the experimentation on his ability. He is super fast, but right now, a snail could out pace him. He just wishes that Ringo wanted him, and hadn't ran. Finding out Shae is in danger means Ringo has to face the man Shae has become. And neither man can resist the other once they are in close proximity. But someone is trying to kill them, and they'll need all their wits about them to keep the other safe.
First up, I loved that Shae, and ONLY Shae was allowed to call Ringo by his given name of Drake. And I'll be using that name throughout the rest of the review, just to annoy Drake!
What I loved most about this book, was the plot line. I struggled to see where it was going, how it was going and what the outcome might be. I struggled to keep up, and I had to double back to reread a few pages, to get the full picture. I still did not see how it would all come together until it did and I LOVED being kept on my toes!
I loved that even though Drake was a lot older than Shae, Shae knew he was the one for him. And he took time to show Drake that. Drake took far longer to get with the programme though and his team mates were one step away from a darn intervention! They still made him see just what he could have with Sahe if he got his head out his behind though.
Danny and Kane take part as do must of Rawlings Security at some point or other. Couple of the original guys do also take part, if only at a distance.
But something's going on, with the Enhanced guys finding their mates (but that word is not used here, I'm using it!) Kane's sight developed expotentially, and Shae speed and healing rate grew here. It's been a while since I read the main series, and I can't remember if those guys abilities grew when they met their match or not. Just a random rambling in my book brain, is all!
**4.5** (please read the trigger warnings to keep yourself safe) What a brilliant second book of this spin off series. I'm glad that it's Shae, given how things were left with him in book one, and he's still recovering from the effects of that. Drake didn't help, though, by running away to avoid a situation. They're both attracted to each other but Drake is sure that Shae would never stay with him because of the thirty year age gap. Both men have experienced pain in their pasts, initially from awful parenting and then from life situations but they now have a chance to move forward, together. However, there are at least a couple of things getting in their way. Someone, or multiple people, seem to be coming after one or both of them. There are so many people that appear to be linked to what's going on that it does get slightly confusing but it adds to the mystery and drama. There is also family drama as both fathers, who each man hates for several reasons, show up with ulterior motives. What we do have are the amazing people that Drake works with and helped to look after Shae when he was rescued before. Now they all seem to be one big dysfunctional family as they work together to hunt for clues and people, to figure out who is coming after them. We also have the lovely Moira and Albert, Drake's neighbours, who are so caring and the parents that the men should have had. It's the people who choose to be your family who can become the most important. There is mystery, danger and some crazy moments as they work to find out what's going on whilst keeping everyone safe. There's even a small twist I didn't see coming that shocks the heck out of Shae, but give Drake his dues, he goes nowhere and is by Shae's side throughout. Loved this and can't wait to read more from this world and brilliant author.
4.25 stars - I love this series. It’s a guilty pleasure I suppose. I just love how the characters have special powers but they each have their unique abilities. Pair them with the military/security guys, and it’s even better. This time around, we have Shae, the broken boy who was rescued from the lab in the previous story by Ringo, one of the ex-military security guys. There is a bit of a disconnect to start off, as Ringo felt it best to disappear and put space between him and Shae due to their age gap and feeling Shae was better off with him out of the picture. But, things take a turn when Shae runs into some trouble and Ringo finds himself in some of his own. There ends up being a connection, but it takes a while to figure everything out and connect all the dots.
This story is filled with a number of enjoyable aspects, from the mystery and suspense, to the hurt/comfort and recovery Ringo and Shae deal with concerning Shae’s medical issues. At the same time, Shae is dealing with figuring out a life for himself and whether or not that includes Ringo, even after he seems to have convinced Ringo to forego the age gap issue and give them a try.
I love a series with various characters that make regular appearances, and this one fits that bill. They all have their special skills they bring to the security team in one way or another, and I love to see them all pitch in whenever needed. I am already looking forward to the continuation of this story and hope there are at least a few more stories to tell. Ms. Sue is an automatic read for me, and this book and series has not disappointed.
I’m very new to Victoria Sue’s work since I’ve only read one of her books from the multi-authored Valleywood Series. I really enjoyed this book and thought that this was a good start to Enhanced World Security Series, which is a spin-off of Victoria’s Enhanced World Series which I haven’t read yet but I didn’t have any issues being able to enjoy this book. I’m really glad that Drake and Shae got their own happily ever after. This book was really exciting and I couldn’t put it down, as I wanted to see what would happen next. There’s a lot of danger surrounding them but they eventually get their chance at happiness. Both have been through a lot of sh*t.
I’m really glad that Drake finally pulled his head out of his a*se and accepted that Shae really wants to be with him, despite their massive age gap. Their hard fought happily ever after was so worth it. Their issues were mainly Drake believing that their age gap was way too big and that Shae will eventually come to his senses and leave. I’m glad that they found each other and now have an amazing found family, that they never really much of as their father’s are both complete a*seholes. I’m looking forward to reading more from this series as it continues, as well as more books by Victoria Sue in the future. I’d recommend this book, series, and author to others.
******I received a complimentary copy of this book through GRR. I would still happily review this book even if I purchased it myself. My thoughts and feelings about this book are completely unbiased******
I loved it! I love this world and all of the characters! So this is book two of the Enchanted World Security series but is part of the Enchanted World Series. Though it’s not necessary to read that series first, I would highly recommend doing so as it’s an amazing world and real sets the foundation for this series. But I do recommend reading book one in this series since you need that background and I think you would be kind of lost. Anyway Shae was rescued from a lab that nearly had him running to death. You see Shae can run, and he is wicked fast, that’s part of him being enhanced. But they strapped him to a treadmill and had him running at speeds and for huge extended periods of time that nearly blew up his heart. He is now living in less than ideal situations and being used like a pack mule in his job which isn’t helping his heart any, but his boss is a real POS. Drake has been tasked with helping Shae out so he can recover. Drake’s past was not roses either. He came from an abusive household and at the first opportunity he joined the service and left. That’s where he meets the others with the security service that he works for now. We then have Drake fighting his feelings for Shae because he feels that he is way too old for him and Shae taking charge show Drake that is not the case. There were a lot of things that happened in this story and I’m so glad our MC’s got their HEA. I can’t wait for the next book!
I rec'd a copy of this book from GRR and this is my honest review.
*I received an ARC copy of this book and this review is my honest opinion*(no spoilers)
Book:- ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Spice:- 🌶🌶.5
Tropes
• Forced proximity • Opposites attract • Age-gap • Alpha Hero • Ex-military bodyguard • Found family • Touch him and die
"Leaving Shae broke my heart, but coming back might just rip it in two."
So this is my second book by this author. I still haven't read the first series, though I plan to, but I still really enjoyed this book. I didn't feel too lost though I do think when I read it I'll have more context.
I really like the concept of the Enhanced and this author's take on the trope/super human plot. The world is fully fleshed out and very interesting and I love how much thought/detail that the author has put into it
This book was a wild ride from start to finish. There were plenty of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat throughout and kept me invested in the characters, and the events of the story. There was a lot of things happening, both in the story and in the background, but it didn't feel too difficult to follow or overly complicated and I liked to see how the author brought it all together by the end.
I liked both of the main characters, even if Drake had me frustrated quite a few times. They are both complex and fully developed, and I found myself very invested in the push and pull dynamic between them. The two of them don't have the easiest time of it, but that makes the HEA all the more worth it. Even if it did get me right in the feels at times.
Looking forward to reading more from this universe.
This is the second story in the Enhanced World Security series. As this book starts several months after the end of One Step Sideways, I would recommend that you read the series in order. This is the story of Shae and Drake. Drake is the one that rescued Shae from the lab where he was abused. Shae is enhanced and he still has heart problems directly due to the testing his the rogue lab he was subjected to. The damage is severe if he is unable to fully heal as an enhanced person. Shae is 100% certain that Drake is his person. But Drake, when he came face to face with the large age difference between them, up sticks and left. He felt Shae deserved someone younger. Cue back to the beginning of this book. Shae has moved out of house he was sharing with other members of the security group. But he is not doing well. When Diesel (Drake's boss) lets Drake know, his protective instincts flare to life. Keeping Shae safe is his primary and only concern. This is their story. This is an action packed story. Be prepared for many twists and turns. Their road to a HEA is not a smooth one. The book is very well written and easy to read. I really enjoyed it. Another excellent book by this author. I look forward to the next book in this series.
I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from GRR and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
ALL OF ME is the second book in the Enhanced World Security series and follows on some months after the end of One Step Sideways so I absolutely recommend you read them in order! Shae is recovering slowly, Drake is still trying to avoid him, and everyone else is watching from the sidelines.
This was such a twisty-turny story I had to take my time, which I loved. Honestly, these men. You know already that Shae had a rough time of it growing up, but you get the full story of Drake's childhood too, and let me tell you, it's not pretty. Drake's concerns about him and Shae are valid, the same as Shae's about Drake, but I was rooting for them from the start. Add in Tammy, Maxie, Moira, Albert, Joe, and all the others, and I was sold.
This was an amazing story and a great addition to the series. I still need to read the first series, but I now want to even more. You don't have to have read those to enjoy these though. Take my word for it. Absolutely fantastic and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED by me.
** same worded review will appear elsewhere **

Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Mar 19, 2025
Gah! So exciting and yet so sweet! I don’t know how Victoria Sue can write a book like this that is packed so full. This book made me cry, smile, sigh, worry, grin and stay up WAY too late to finish it because as is usual for Ms. Sue’s books I just couldn’t stop reading. Shae is sweet and damaged and Ringo is just what he needs and Ringo needs someone to love and they are just perfect for each other. I did keep feeling like hitting Ringo over the head when he kept trying to put Shae off saying that he was too old for Shae. I don’t usually like that type of thing but there is so much more to the story and I ended up feeling rather sad for Ringo rather than annoyed. AND the mystery was amazing. Ms Sue had me as totally flummoxed by what was happening as her characters were and I love that she was able to pull the wool over my eyes without pulling a surprise at the end to solve everything. I read so many books that it is incredibly rare that an author can write a mystery that I am not able to figure out by about the half way point in the book. Not with this one, but it made perfect sense. Kudos to Victoria Sue for writing a most excellent mystery romance.
All of Me is the second book in Victoria Sue’s Enhanced World Security series. It follows closely after the events of the first book, in which both Shae and Drake play significant supporting roles. While some readers may be able to jump right in with this one, I would suggest readers start with the first book. Shae and Drake take turns narrating here, which I think worked well as a means to help the reader understand the depth of Shae’s mental state; he has feelings of worthlessness and an intensely stubborn sense of pride. He comes across as a staunchly independent, but incredibly vulnerable young man.
If you’re a fan of complex thriller puzzles, the many moving parts in who’s behind the several attacks on Shae and Drake are sure to keep you on your toes. Readers who enjoy when two characters are all but made for each other and eventually get over their hang-ups and decide to be happy are sure to like this.
'I couldn’t do that to him. I could never do that. I loved him too much. And that realization had been what sent me running. But the same realization made me come back. I had a feeling it always would.'
I loved the first book in this series and was so excited to read book two- I wasn't disappointed. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both Shae and Drake. What Shae's been through broke my heart. I thought Kane's (book 1) experiences were bad, but this was so much worse. And of course he still had to deal with the prejudices against the Enhanced. Drake made a mistake and mucked things up when he ran away after Shae kissed him because he was thirty years older than him and thought he deserved better. Now Shae's walls were up, only accepting the bare minimum of help being offered to him, and risking his (literally) damaged heart.
I enjoyed seeing Drake finally step up like he should have from the beginning; see the relationship finally build between these two and the walls come down. A beautiful hurt/comfort romance. 5 stars.
All of Me is the second book in Victoria Sue's Enhanced World Security series. It follows Shae, who has been freed from a research lab, and Drake, who is brought back to protect him once again. The chemistry between the characters is compelling, and the book is full of twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. Drake and Shae have a dynamic relationship with a significant age gap that adds depth to their connection. Both characters have doubts about each other, themselves, and their situation, making their bond even more complex. The suspense and danger surrounding them keep the plot engaging, with plenty of push and pull between the two as they navigate their feelings. Despite the enhanced world they live in, their relationship feels realistic, and the way they rely on each other is both touching and believable. The chemistry between them makes for an enjoyable and compelling read.
AMA, antibiotic cream, tricked-out SUVs, heterochromatic puppy, missing gun, Dolly in princess finery, English breakfast, syringe, Shae = The Flash?
Wow. The mystery and action make this story stand out. It's intriguing, exciting, and will make you say, "awww". "All of Me", is Book 2 of the 'Enhanced World Security' series. It meshes with the characters and storyline of Book 1, but can be read as a standalone.
Shae is the enhanced and Drake, the human, works with the Rawlings Security team in Atlanta. There are a host of characters and many seemingly separate threads. So, I really had to pay attention, read carefully, and flip back and forth to make sure I was getting the thread and the right character to match. It gets a bit complex and confusing. The fault is with me, it isn't because of the writing which is deftly crafted.
I'm enjoying the series and this book confirms that statement. I highly recommend this series and book.
I loved this world and I enjoyed every book in it since the beginning. In this book we see what happens to Shae after the events happening in the first. After being experimented with, he can't use his enhanced speed in fear of a heart attack. Everything Drake wants is to protect Shae, but Shae doesn't agree with his choices. The work through a lot together, not only against those who want to experiment with the enhanced, but with their own failures, feelings and traumas. This book is action packed with very heated moments, again Victoria Sue takes us to a world uncanningly similar to ours except those who are seen as less are the enhanced. In a romance context she transmites how important is to be kind to each other and those differences between us aren't really important because we are all human. Action packed and with heated moments this book is easy to read with a great writing that makes the story flow. I heartily recommend it!
This is an amazing story! It starts up seven months after One Step Sideways ends so you might enjoy All of Me best if you read One Step Sideways first.
Shae is dealing with heart problems caused by all of the testing that was done on him because he’s enhanced. Ringo/Drake rescued Shae and Shae wants Drake but Drake is nearly thirty years older than he is and thinks the age-gap is just too wide.
Drake has been gone for several months, having pretty much run away when he realized how attracted he was to Shae. In the meantime, Shae moved out of the house where he was staying with other members of the security group. When Drake’s boss, Diesel, tells him that Shae is not doing well, Drake’s protective instincts take over.
There are so many twists and turns in this story that I was completely glued to my e-Reader and read it all in one day. Victoria Sue loves to put her guys through a lot of sh*t but she always gives them their well-deserved HEA. It’s not all heavy stuff; there are some light-hearted moments provided by a donkey named Dolly. She added some comic relief which helped ease the tension caused by bad things going on.
While the Enhanced World Security books are connected to Victoria Sue’s Enhanced World series, this series can be read on its own. Having said that, I highly recommend the Enhanced World series because it’s fantastic and a few characters from that series appear in All of Me.
An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.
This is a poignant tale of two individuals, Shae and Ringo, grappling with physical and emotional scars. Shae, once powerful, is left broken after enduring cruel experiments, while Ringo, a Marine and bodyguard, struggles with guilt and heartbreak after rescuing Shae. Their connection is undeniable, but Ringo’s self-doubt and fear of being unworthy lead him to leave, despite the pain it causes them both. It’s a story of love, loss, and the weight of past traumas.
I loved this story of Shae and Ringo and their struggles to be together. There were a lot of twists and turns in this dramatic story but through it all and with the help of friends and found family the prevailed. Ringo struggled with their age gap which made me want to shake him at times! Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
With All of Me, we get to know what happens between Drake, aka Ringo, and Shae. We met them both in the first book of the series, One Step Sideways, where they met for the first time. Here, there’s a big development in their relationship, with a lot of walls falling – finally! – down between them. Especially those that Drake had built to protect his heart. I really loved both characters. Drake is really protective of Shae, and Shae is really determined to show Drake, and the whole world, that he is a strong and independent young man. As well as in the first book, the story is well written, with a lot of twists and turns that make you just want to binge read it. Moreover, despite the focus being on Shae and Drake, we still have the whole Rawlings Security team in action, and it is always a pleasure to read about them. Great!
When Shae grew up, a scar appeared on his face indicating he was enhanced. He had a variety of abilities, including running fast. As a result, he was used in experiments which damaged his heart. He may never even run slow again. Ringo was devastated when he carried Shae out of the lab with so many injuries and barely alive. As he recovered, they shared a kiss and Ringo ran, devastating both men. Ringo knows he must go back and protect Shae but he is too old for him in any other capacity.
What happened to Shae will break your heart. He had so much to give but instead what he had to give was taken in a cruel, vicious way. Ringo felt he was too old and yet he could not resist Shae’s allure. This one is perfect for those of us who enjoy paranormal stories and an absolutely amazing ending. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
4.5⭐️ What a fun, twisty, and suspenseful ride! Book two picks up several months after the events of One Step Sideways, and Drake is working hard to keep distance between himself and Kane. One of the things I appreciate most, is that while this definitely has amazing, fast paced action and truly exceptional world building, it also has dimensional characters and an emotional center that was really appealing. I’ve not read the earlier series, but I think I will pick it up, as I am so invested and intrigued by the setting. There’s a boatload of drama and past trauma to work through, and I was anxiously waiting for Drake to stop running from Kane. When they work together, it’s so easy to see how amazing they can be as a couple. Loved it, can’t wait for more!
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of book.
Ringo and Shae begin this novel responding to each other on the basis of miscommunication around Ringo's age. Shae thinks Ringo has abandoned him because of his past, but Ringo knows he's only half right. I couldn't round this up to 4 stars, however. Too much happens, and there are so many pieces to unravel, so much of the mystery to piece together, some of which seems a bit far-fetched to me, that I kept losing track. I enjoyed the sci-fi and suspense aspects of it, though I wish I understood more about how the enhanced came to be. I have questions about the world-building for which there are no answers in this or the first book in the series. Both men must learn to trust and then love the other, all while trying to solve a mystery that keeps causing injuries, close calls, and even death.
I enjoyed this book, I liked the world the author created, the thriller plot, both main characters, the development of their relationship. Both Drake (aka Ringo) and Shae are broken and have suffered in the past, but they have a chance to move forward together. The problem is that Drake does not feel good enough for Shae, mainly due to their big age gap (30 years). At some point in the book, I thought there was too many different twists, but at the end all comes together.
This is the second book of the Enhanced World Security series, while reading the first one is maybe not completely necessary I would highly recommend it, and as for the first one, having read the previous series may make this reading more enjoyable as we have many cameos.
Drake and Shae first met in Book #1 One Step Sideways but now the reader gets their full relationship here. Shae was rescued from the research lab . There is an emotional battle that has great interactions between Drake and Shae, though frustrating for both characters. These problems center around Drake being too wrapped up in his age and Shae just knows who he desires. There are also the physical threats to Drake's inheritance that is full of twists and turns in the plot, including his near do well Cousin Ryan, a Mexican cartel, animal rescue neighbors Albert and Moira with their various dogs, pups, and Daisy. The ending is full of hope for Drake, Shae, and the close-knit family they have created to succeed far into their future. I had the privilege of being given an ARC of this book and this is my honest review.
