A Matter of Blood (The Unlikely Adventures of Mortensen & Spurlock Book 2) Kindle Edition
It takes little effort to save the world from power-obsessed madmen when you’ve been doing it for years. For once, however, it’s not an artifact hunt that has Alice Mortensen vexed. It’s her beloved Nora’s mother, Lady Spurlock.
With their dissimilar Aetheric natures called into question, Alice and Nora undertake a journey halfway around the world for answers. Whether by railway, steamer, or airship, Alice and Nora will not rest until they can allay Lady Spurlock’s concerns about their union.
Nor will they realize the unimaginable discovery or danger to which their inquiries will lead until a chance meeting leads to a long overdue reunion…
All our heroines want is a happy ending, but will they encounter too much danger—and not enough cake—to save the day in the finale to their unlikely adventures?

About the authors
Jea Hawkins writes sweet and spicy contemporary lesbian romance. She writes paranormal romance and urban fantasy as Lucy True. Her historical/contemporary romance, "As Long As Love Lasts," has been nominated for a GCLS Literary Award.
Regardless of genre, if love conquers all, then she’d like to think her heroines can rule the world one day. An east coast transplant to the Midwest, she loves to write about complicated women and settings that feel like home.
Personal addictions include genealogy, autumn, cozy sweaters, hot chocolate, and the Sims 3. She’s both an avid reader and gamer, and hopes readers don’t mind a few geeky references here and there in her work.
Lucy True writes quirky urban fantasy and paranormal romance. She also writes contemporary romance as Jea Hawkins.
She is a gamer, lover of history, as well as strange and whimsical things. There should probably be an “I Brake for Cemeteries” bumper sticker on her car. A passionate genealogist, long-time cross-stitcher, and kitchen witch, she lives in a one-horse town in rural eastern Nebraska with her sometimes-better half, two witchlings, and two cats.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2021This was every bit as good, if not better, than the first. In this adventure both women plus a hilarious Spurlock aunt go to France and then the United States hunting for Mort’s ancestry so that Lady Spurlock can finally agree to their match. What a surprise that turns out to be.
I would be very surprised if there isn’t a third book on the horizon. I hope Vertiline is included.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 26, 2020This was a very fun story. It’s the second book in the series and just as entertaining as the first. Each character has her own separate personality. It has lots of action and is well written.

Caught myself chuckling out loud more than once
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2020Well don't that beat all. I was surprised by who showed up in the story; and, I can't share because it would spoil the story. Alice and Nora are on the adventure of a lifetime and their chaperone is a hoot. If they have other adventures to be written, there are stories left to be told. The bad boys were bad and Alice has no qualms defending herself and those she loves to the death. An exciting and non-stop read I refused to put down.
