A Prairie Love: The Ashland Witches, Book 4 Kindle Edition
Avery has everything: looks, a prestigious career, and a flawless life. Everything, that is, except somebody to love. While her covenmates think she’s simply too cool and logical for romance, the truth Avery hides is very different.
But there’s no hiding her feelings when Isabelle, the girl who taught her how to love ’em and leave ’em, shows up in Ashland. Suddenly, Avery’s perfect life turns upside down as she struggles to reconcile her feelings for the woman who broke her heart.
With her fellow Ashland Witches happily settled, it seems inevitable that Avery is next to find love. But the witches know better than to take anything for granted, especially where relationships are concerned!
This is the conclusion to the Ashland Witches series, a lightly paranormal contemporary romance series, with leading ladies who just happen to be witches.

About the author

Jea Hawkins writes sweet and spicy contemporary lesbian romance. She writes paranormal romance and urban fantasy as Lucy True. Her historical/contemporary romance, "As Long As Love Lasts," has been nominated for a GCLS Literary Award.
Regardless of genre, if love conquers all, then she’d like to think her heroines can rule the world one day. An east coast transplant to the Midwest, she loves to write about complicated women and settings that feel like home.
Personal addictions include genealogy, autumn, cozy sweaters, hot chocolate, and the Sims 3. She’s both an avid reader and gamer, and hopes readers don’t mind a few geeky references here and there in her work.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseShe is an ice queen and she keeps secrets from her friends. For almost her entire life, Avery has build up walls around herself to prevent people from hurting her. She doesn't know how to be open to others or to be vulnerable but now Avery must confront her past. She has to find her way in this web of mixed feelings. With the help of her friends she could succeed, right? I'm very pleased with te way the author has completed this series. Yes an excellent end of an amazing series and I am sure that I will miss this coven of witches.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 4, 2018Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI am so happy that Avery was able to get in touch with her emotions to find the love that she deserved. The series comes to a perfect end with all of the coven happily coupled up and with a baby in their midst. Thank you!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2018Format: KindleAs this book completes the Ashland Witches cycle, I find it hard to review without referencing the other books in the series. I enjoyed the first book, “A Charmed Life,” a lot, and loved the second, “A Garden Dream,” even more. I felt that story married the witch properties of the characters with their human emotions perfectly. I was not as taken with number three, “A Magick Dance.” That book used the women’s witchery to solve their very human emotional problems in a way that did not appeal to me, although I must admit that was my taste and I’m sure others got much more out of it. I felt in this final story that instead of solving the problems for the main character, Avery, it was relying on her powers to get through life that created the problems. The story was about her needing to overcome her witchery and learn to trust her human emotions. (And if ‘witchery’ isn’t a real word - well, it should be.) This was a fitting end to the cycle.
The one criticism I have of the book is that I thought the sex came too soon: both for the sake of the story and for the relationship between the characters. I felt that Avery needed to learn how to care for Isabelle without the distraction of sex. I also felt that by holding off, the author could have forced the woman to acknowledge her own human feelings and failings. Avery was not a likable character. Her self-centeredness made her difficult to sympathize with. By jumping in bed so quickly, she avoided having to face her shortcomings.
Once again, I appreciated having the story set in Omaha and Ashland. As a long-time Omaha resident it was a pleasure to have the characters in familiar surroundings. I didn’t know that the Max was still open. I had some good times there in past years.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2018Format: KindleAs always, Jea has written another winner. This is the story of Avery who had the unusual talent of sensing the emotions of others and could actually change them. The only problem was that she couldn't acknowledge her own feelings and emotions. In order to truly love someone else she had to learn how to be true to herself. Isabelle had loved Avery for a long time but could she change Avery enough for her to accept her own feelings? Well---you really need to read this to find out. It is a very fitting end to the Ashland Witches series. While I was saddened to know this was the last book, it ended perfectly. Thank you, Jea, for yet another really wonderful book. I highly recommend this whole series and each book can be read as a stand alone.
