Ardalia: Turquoise Water (Book Two) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 18 ratings

Flames were everywhere. Taller than a krongos, swift and dominant, they were dancing a bloody dance of chaos and madness. Just one step forward, and they would seize him in their deadly embrace, scorching his body and feasting upon his soul. Pelmen turned. The tongues of fire behind him drew back, outlining the path to salvation.

A new installment in the prehistoric world of Ardalia

Along the Great Rift, in the heart of the volcano Ixal, Valshhyk the Immolated is stirring. The creatures corrupted by his putrid fumes are growing in number daily. Within the fiery walls of Sinista, the amberrock swords, axes and lances of an army of outcasts gleam, waiting. The day is drawing near when the ties binding the dark god will collapse. Then, the nylevs will surge forward from the depths of the abyss.

Pelmen, Xuven, Teleg, Elisan-Finella and Lominan, the Messengers of Destiny, have an urgent mission. However, dissent soon rears its ugly head and they go their separate ways. Who among the Children of Aoles or Malia will succeed in warning the world of the danger it faces? When the time comes to confront the servants of the Sacred Fire, will the Breath of Aoles and the power of the Turquoise Water be enough to defeat them?

What readers are saying:

"I really enjoyed the two different perspectives and the two different main struggles that each group has to overcome. It was refreshing and full of a lot of good action and story development. The internal struggles were compounded with the insurmountable politics and allied conflict. Not only do they have to warn everyone but they have to revisit their past struggles and problems. They have to break through political and strategic barriers." —TM Borgwardt

"I really liked this book, it is a strong relevant second in the series. You get a look at the struggles of working together and overcoming diversity to secure a common goal." —CRB Amazon

"This story picks up where the first book "The Breath of Aoles" left off.
The writer continues to intrigue and leaves wanting more with this magic, fantasy and adventure series. I look forward to the 3rd book!" —
Gene

I was fortunate enough to receive a free copy of Turquoise Water (Ardalia, Book 2) directly from the author Alan Spade in exchange for an honest review. This is my review and I’m grateful for the opportunity.

Pelmen, Xuven, Elisan-Finella, Lominian, and Pelmen’s childhood friend Teleg (who is rather ill) have all fled from the chaos that ensued in Sinista. Surprisingly Teleg makes a remarkable recovery and punches Pelmen before running away because Pelmen lied to get him out of Sinista by telling him that his sister was among them to save him from the darkness within the city. Teleg is possessed by the energy of the Immolated and runs away presumably to find his sister but he instead joins forces with Sinistan and his warriors who are hunting Pelmen and his friends. Being chased by the army is one thing, being followed by animals is another but they soon end up in a tricky situation where the group find themselves virtually surrounded and having to go their separate ways to survive and evade capture in order to warn others of the fate that awaits them before it is too late.

Pelmen and his uncle Xuven go one way and Elisan-Finella and Lominian another. From here it starts to get more interesting as the chapters alternate between each groups survival and point of view which helps you to interact and relate to the characters more/individually. Can the four companions overcome all obstacles whilst trying to maintain their current friendships? Or will everything change when they encounter new friendships and learn more about themselves by the time the battle begins?

Gripping from the moment you start, this book is fast paced and action packed. Fantasy genre lovers will be in their element. I enjoyed this book very much. Its fun, intriguing and I liked the ending which makes you excited to read the next book. However to read this book and to get the best out of it I would suggest you read the first one in the series (Ardalia, volume 1: The Breath of Aoles) otherwise you will end up very confused since it starts where the first book ended.

I really enjoyed this second book of the Ardalia Trilogy. The author has woven a rich tale about an evil entity coming to life to take over the world. This book alternates between two main characters, Pelmen and Lominan. The story is very well written, but is easy to follow. I am anxiously awaiting the third book!

I received a copy of Turquoise Water (Ardalia, Book 2) directly from the author Alan Spade in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, The Breath of Aoles, so my expectations for this one were high. This book picks up where the first one left off. Ardalia is threatened by Valsshyk. Pelmen, Xuven, Teleg, Lominan and Elisan-Finella sets out on a mission and are soon split up. We see a lot of the internal struggles that come along with people attempting to work together. There is arguing and bickering among them as they try to work together toward their larger goal. It is quite a collage of characters and personalities so the controversy is expected. The point of view of the book goes back and forth between two groups. They need to warn the world of upcoming dangers and find a way to work together to be able to defeat their strengthening opposition.

I really liked this book, it is a strong relevant second in the series. You get a look at the struggles of working together and overcoming diversity to secure a common goal. The pacing in this book is similar to that in the first. I didn’t find it problematic. I think if the pacing were faster, the storyline would feel rushed and the reader would get less out of the book. Also, in this series you really need to pay attention to keep up with what is going on and the pacing allows you to dig into the story.

Turquoise Water is the second book in the series about Ardalia, introduced in The Breath of Aoles.

As a sequel, Turquoise Water is absolutely great! The characters continue to grow and evolve with the story. This doesn't always happen. Often, sequels merely place the same characters in a different setting. Not here.

Turquoise Water not only continues the story began in Breath of Aoles, but elevates it. All the characters are expanded, developed more fully, and held true to their nature. The story builds in action, anticipation, and complexity. New characters are introduced as the story builds.

You know by now I try not to do spoilers, nut the fate of their world is in jeopardy.

I gave Breath of Aoles 4 out of 5 stars only because the ending was fust too abrupt for me. Not so this time. I gladly give Turquoise Water a full 5 stars. I still have that general disappointment at having to wait for the finale, but it was much smoother this time. If you can say that for a continuing story.

Turquoise Water, is not a stand alone book by any means. You need to read Breath of Aoles, to completely understand and enjoy Turquoise Water. But hey, I said the first book was great so go for it!

    Mike
