Ardalia: The Flames of the Immolated (Book Three) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 14 ratings

The great hunt had begun, and the hevelens were the prey. When would it end, and how? Impossible to predict…

With the malian army defeated, the forces of Destruction are laying siege to the Gate of the Canyons and spreading out over the Windy Steppes. For every child of the wind or the water captured and hurled into the Great Rift, a Nylev, a fire-being, is born. Pelmen, Laneth, Lominan and Elisan-Finella must convince the krongos to join them in their desperate struggle, but only a handful of the mineral creatures remain, and Valshhyk, the Immolated, seems unstoppable…

The Flames of the Immolated is the third and final book of the Ardalia trilogy. It includes a map of Ardalia and a glossary, with a description of the various creatures peculiar to its universe, and suggestions for the pronunciation of some words.

Alan Spade worked for eight years for the press, reviewing video games. In his youth, he acquainted himself with the classic French authors, while immersing himself in the works of H. P. Lovecraft, Isaac Asimov, J. R. R. Tolkien and Stephen King.

That wide range of influences is reflected in his style, simultaneously approachable, visually evocative and imaginative.

Alan likes to say that "a good book is like a good old pair of shoes: you feel at ease inside, comfortable."

This third book in the trilogy has the deepest involvement of all the main characters, meaning they all have matured a lot, accomplished a lot, and won the respect of all around them who matter. The story reaches its climax overall, with some bitter fights and surprising changes of fortune. Now a long recovery begins, with some significant alteration in the lives of all races involved. These will include less reliance on some of the artifacts of their beliefs, as well as greater interdependence on each other. Pelmen has escaped for good the tannery. Close friends have been lost, but their lesson have saved him. Laneth now understands that differences between the branches of her race are minor. Although much of their lands was destroyed in the battles, it will regrow, treasured by the population as a whole.
The author has done a wonderful job of educating and aging his characters, perfectly fitting the situations they have survived. I hope this world will be revisited someday.

I really enjoy the storyline and imagery in this series. The author has a great imagination to create this whole unique world for the characters to live in. However although a great story, this was my least favorite of the 3 books. This book started out slow, and took several chapters before the story really started. I also felt following all the individual storylines of the different characters separately took away from the flow of the story. Breaking the story into the viewpoint of so many unique characters perspectives, although interesting, made this kind of a rough read. This was definitely not a one night read. Once the story got going, around chapter 5 was where I felt it pick up, I was able to get into it more. The imagery and quality of the story is great though.

All three volumes were well written and the story flowed well. The characters were likable and had depth. I read through all 3 volumes with relative ease and though there were a few minor grammatical errors, they did not detract from the reading. Classic good vs evil plot with some interesting differences thrown in.

Complex plot. Sort of a cosmic Game of Thrones. Many threads and relationships run through the plot. Builds to a great climactic battle between Good and Evil.

Not only was the plot complex-it was very well executed. I feel like I missed a bit having not read the first two books, but after reading this, i’m going to pick them up.

Alan Spade sent me an e-copy of The Flames of the Immolated (Ardalia #3) for review.

As the title (Ardalia #3) suggests, this is the third and final installment in the Ardalia series (I'm so smart I scare myself sometimes). Having read and thoroughly enjoyed the first two books The Breath of Aoles (#1) and Turquoise Water (#2), I was eager to read the conclusion. Mr. Spade provided an exciting conclusion to his trilogy.

The Flames of the Immolated continued the stories of several characters we met in the first books. As I said in my review of the second book, the characters continued to grow, no flat, stale characters here. The complexity of the story is incredible, balancing so many story lines and maintaining a coherent story is a real achievement.

The Flames of the Immolated is most definitely not a stand alone story. Refreshing yourself by skimming the second book would probably be beneficial, of course I didn't do that and I don't think I suffered for it. The story is so rich with unique characters both good and bad that I was left in awe of Alan Spade's imagination. That one writer could come up with such a variety of beings to populate his story just blows me away, let alone the fact that he is able to weave them all into such a riveting story.

The trilogy is a "quest to save the world" story that actually involves the whole world, not just a small corner that many of the worlds inhabitants don't even know about. Everybody knows what's going on.

The story is full of action, violence, horror, evil, good, love, romance, loss, redemption, magic, greed, dog and cats living together (okay, not that), but you get the idea. So much more than can be shared in a short (yeah, yeah) review.

Alan Spade does not spare our emotions at all. There are emotional highs and lows, no one is safe, no one can rest on their past achievements, and no one gets things the way they want them. This kept me as a reader on my toes, forget trying to predict the story.

Finally (yes I'm almost done), My favorite part of the book is the final two chapters, not because they were the climax, but because they weren't. So often quest stories end with the end of the quest. I'm always grateful to the authors who give us a strong epilogue. Even though the last two chapters are not officially designated as such, they are a completely satisfying epilogue. So, huge (YUUUGE) thanks to Alan Spade for The Flames of the Immolated. Enjoy!

The long awaited conclusion to the series is finally here. This story picks up right where it leaves off in the second one.
This Fantasy story transports you to another world filled with magic, action, and adventure.
Can't wait to see what he writes next.

I was lucky in that I got a chance to review the first two books of this series before they were released. Than Alan Spade contacted me offering me a chance to read and review the third book of the series. The author was kind enough to send me a copy of the third book for free.

Don't worry there will be no spoilers here.....

I really enjoyed the third book which picks up right where the second book left off and the story continues from there. If you enjoyed the first two books I would highly recommend reading this book as well. If you have not read the first two books than what are you waiting for? This is definitely not a series where you can pick up any book and figure out what is going on, if you do not read it from the beginning you will quickly find yourself very confused.

I cannot wait to read more from Alan Spade.

I really enjoyed reading the end of this wonderful trilogy, even if it did take me a while to get through it, and would happily read this series again if I had the chance. The climactic end was well written, and showed how three races could band together to fight against a truly destructive force
