Another great read by Fuchs. Spoiler alert.

This one starts with Handon and his team as well as the MARSOC marines under Fick heading for Hargeisa to search for one of the original inhabitants who's a walker. A walker Dr. Park needs for his research in his quest to find a cure.

The operators are traveling in an uparmored MRAP courtesy of an unwilling Sgt. Major Zorn. The lone survivor, human that is, of Camp Lemonnier. A Zorn who did his best to get Handon and the others killed. A Zorn who has nothing but scorn for all Special Forces operators. A Zorn who is now a prisoner and is giving the directions Handon needs to get into Hargeiza,

Things have not gone well and Handon and Henno have almost come to blows.

Henno still thinks Handon isn't leading the mission well. He, Henno, would do things quite differently. In his mind the completion of the mission is everything and he doesn't care how many he has to kill to get the job done. Not much humanity in Henno these days and he see Handon as someone who is easily side tracked. A Handon Henno doesn't see as a leader of anything.

Pred, Homer, Juice, Ali and Fick see things quite differently. Handon is the leader they all follow. Ali see's Henno as a problem that will not go away. Henno is a man who will sacrifice anything to complete the mission. Even himself. Ali also knows he and Handon will come to blows eventually. Pred has already had to break them up once. These are all more problems that neither the operators or the mission need.

Sarah and Wesley have their own mission. This one to the peninsula end of Saudi Arabia. Park needs a DNA sequencer. There is one in that city and that's the mission of Sarah and Wesley and his NSF team to include Judy, Wesley military war dog. Of course Judy wasn't supposed to come but come she did.

Of course Andrew Wesley doesn't think he's a leader and can't figure out why he's on a mission of any kind. He worries about everything and doesn't seem to see that he is indeed a leader. A man others will follow. This mission will show him how wrong he is about his abilities.

The Russian scientist Oleg Aliyev crash lands in Red Square. Aliyev has the cure and is trying to get to London. He knows Dr. Park, whom he knows, has part of the cure but Aliyev has what will kill the walkers. Only problem is the cure is in a cold box in his crashed helo, and he is in an abandoned tank that he made it to after being chased by walkers. Thousands of walkers. Aliyev is having loads of problems in saving the world.

Back in Great Britain those in power are removing themselves to the Isle of Mann. Jamieson sees these people who are supposed to be leading are dong nothing more than saving themselves. Jamieson has nothing but disgust for them.

Jameison is still stuck in charge until three officers from the Household Cavalry show up. Jameison dumps control of the whole deal on them and he and his ground pounders get ready to head to Russia.

Seems a Russian scientist is in need of extraction. A Russian named Aliyev who has a way to kill the walkers and perhaps save Britain. Jamieson is much more comfortable on a mission than behind a desk. He and his team will be heading to Russia.

So begins another damned fine read by Fuchs.

This one has Handon, Henno, Pred, Juice, Ali, Homer, Fick, Reyes, Brady, Noise, animals turned into walkers, animals that attack Handon and his team, a knock down drag out fight in Hargeisa, baboons, bats, a collapsing building, a Wesley and Sarah having their own problems in Saudi Arabia, the Russian Special operators who get to Aliyev, the Russians who are in Somalia, Jake Reddick and his triple nickel (555) operators who survived Camp Lemonnier rescue Handon and his crew at the last minute, a Jake who Juice knows quite well, a Jake who gets them to his compound, a desalinization plant in Saudi Arabia that saves Wesley and his NSF team and his successful mission, an Ali on overwatch at the triple nickel compound who thinks she's seeing Russians, a Henno and Handon who almost come to blows again and Handon's team doing their best to complete the mission get back to the JFK and hope Park can come up with the cure.

    Five Stars and then some.

The tenth "mainline" novel in the Arisen series hits like an aircraft carrier running into a continent!

***Attention, mild spoilers ahead, trying to avoid, but this is 12 books into a series...***

We catch up to our merry...run down...beat up...thoughtful...depressed...band of exceptional misfits as they continue on their mission TO SAVE THE WORLD! Following Cataclysm and Nemesis you have a good idea of what is in store for them in Africa and Europe. Zombies! Crazy Survivors! Nothing that they are looking for! More than what they want!

Handon and Henno are still doing the mature thing, and squabbling like 15 year old boys. Predator needs some yogurt in his diet, stat. Juice is sleepy. The Marines probably need to let the zombies know they will be tagging in and out. The NSF group gets some cool turtle armor. Ali is nostalgic...well, not precisely, but she is back home.

England and Russia get relatively short mention in this read, though the advancements they contribute to the story will be HUGE. Let's say Jameson is pleased with the burden of command and where it leads him. ;) Our crazy scientist makes his landing in Red Square and finds all sorts of welcoming arms to greet him.

Our plucky security guard gets to lead an operation, and while it isn't flawless, to say the least, the unlikely team just might surprise. Good ol' Zorn is still EVER so helpful, Hailey flies some crazy CAS, and the Triple Nickel makes its triumphant movie quoting return!

    ***SUPER SPOILER***

    paraphrase:

Balding, gray eyed, hissing, death ferret things crawl out of the bush. Reyes: "hey fluffy, you look soooo cute!" Graybeard: "Idiot!" <- definitely not what the old Marine said. Death weasels: "chitter chitter hiss hiss ATTACK"

    LMAO

Full disclosure: my husband is not a fan of z-poc, it's the little wife reading this. Actually I don't know that I was a fan either before this series, which is absolutely great, or has been so far. I just got the eleventh book and I hope that the impression I got in Book Ten - which is that the story is going sideways somewhat - is just that, an impression.
For starters...the whole thing could have been wrapped up in this book or at most another one, because when Zorn gets bitten by that early-onset zombie, they could simply have packed him up and taken him back. He had an early version of the virus in him at that point and the whole whoop-de-do in Hargeisa, not to mention afterwards, could have been avoided.
Secondly, the Russian military are a lot of things, and Spetsnaz are nothing if not brutal, but especially at a command level they are also extremely pragmatic. No way (referring to former books here) would there have been no contact between the two ships, no way would the attitude have simply been adversarial from the get-go with no questions asked. Not in those surrounding conditions. An underlying power play or the intent of getting Patient Zero first, escalating into conflict later on, sure. The rest was not realistic. And at the end of the book it seems as if it is shaping up as Rocky vs. Ivan Drago all over again. I am hoping there is a little more to it than that...

5.0 out of 5 stars SUPER ACTION, GREAT THRILLER, GREAT SAGA
Reviewed in Canada on November 22, 2016

Each book tells the continuing saga of a world upside down where everything has changed due to an infection that turns 7 billion people into raving, human hungry zombies. This goes well beyond the Walking Dead for action as Fortress Britain, the only country left standing, is trying to reset the world to being zombie free.

The missions are many and the action is hot as American and British military conduct missions across the globe trying to find materials and people in a race to stop the extinction of the human race.

There are many characters in this saga and yet the author develops them with depth and reality. The protagonists and the antagonists seem to be so real, as does the action. Reading this saga pulls you in and places you in the middle of the action.

This HAS to be one of the BEST Zombie saga's going !!! Detail, information and realism pervades throughout the 12 books (books 13 & 14 will arrive) and I can't wait !

Finally! This entire 14+ book series is genre-changing. This....this is what a zombie apocalypse looks like. Hard, capable, violent, caring, professional, and even funny, people coming together and standing side by side to fight a never-ending but changing global-ending virus.
Military spec-ops vs zombies. Aircraft carrier vs zombies. Fighter jets and tactical warheads vs zombies. Apache gunships, tanks, and MRAPs vs zombies. All to create time for science to fight the billions of meat-eating staggering, sometimes-running/jumping/sprinting walking dead trying to eat them and their loved ones.
At the centre of it all, a small tight-knit group of the most professionally-capable warriors stand together, cracking jokes and staying not only human but humane.
I have never been so eager to voraciously read so many books so quickly. Even after 14 books, I wanted more. Fortunately...there is more.
Hey Amazon! Netflix! Anyone! Get this pinnacle of the zombie genre onto the TV screen ASAP. This series changes it all.

Been following the entire series and for me it is one of the best zombie apocalypse series out there. Fast-paced, with the tension and action moving from usually 3-4 different locations keeps the book moving along at a great pace. It is well-written and the descriptions of the military hardware are interesting for someone who knows nothing about these things. Read the series!

Another gripping instalment of the arisen series, this book like all the others had me struggling to put it down! I have had a couple of series I really enjoyed totally ruined for me with lazy or totally implausible endings and I am keen to see the ending to arisen doesn't seem to be going that way - as ever the book was well thought out, detailed and consistent with the high quality I have come to expect from the author. I cannot wait for the next instalment but at the same time I really don't want it all to come to an end!!
