4.6 out of 5 stars 411 ratings

Christmas miracles do happen when you realize age is just a number.

Aspen Assisted Living facility is known for their festive holiday decorations, but it did little to decorate the hearts of the residents.
The longer Grace Decker lives at the facility, the more she retreats into herself. What is the point? Her freedom died right along with her husband. Now strangers treate her like a child. She doesn’t even care that it’s almost Christmas.
The last thing Albert Stanley, a former rodeo star, wants is to be stuck inside with not a horse in sight. Six months in this place has seemed like six years. Although he’s the life of the party on the outside, inside he feels alone and isolated. Is he going to die without ever experiencing true love?
Albert decides to make it his mission to bring some Christmas cheer into Grace’s life, despite her resistance. Can two people who believe their lives are over, remember romance at Christmas, and discover that you are never too old to fall in love?

Jill loves fresh mountain breezes. There is nothing like spending time in the beautiful Colorado Rockies when the evenings are warm and the night sky is filled with stars.. Love and romance are sure to find you. Once Jill Haymaker discovered her passion for writing contemporary romances filled with messages of hope and second chances, she never looked back. Five years ago, she gave up her long time career as an attorney to embark on writing full time. She loves her stories set high in the Mountains and the handsome cowboys her strong, independent heroines find there. Although her characters and settings are fictional, they are based on the people and places she's experienced in her own time in the mountains. After writing eleven books in her Peakview series, eleven books in her Aspen Ridge Series, and four books in her Peaktop Dude Ranch Series, all centered in Peakview County, Colorado, Jill has started a new Montana Pines Series. You'll find lots of the same handsome cowboys in a new location. Don't worry some of your favorite characters from the other series will pop in from time to time to say hello. Jill also writes stories for the popular Chicken Soup for the Soul books, where you can catch a glimpse of her real life. REMEMBER CHRISTMAS is a standalone read with a HEA. No sex scenes so appropriate for any age. This story is different from any other book I have read. And, I have read a lot...so far, 170 this year. The story is set in an assisted living facility. The guest cannot live alone anymore, they need a little help from time to time. I know the people I know have a deathly dread of having to give up their home and then depend on others to do things that they wouldn't even think twice about years ago. No one really wants to go to a facility like this but sometimes there is just no choice.

This story is about two of the guests. He is 91, an ex-rodeo cowboy. His longest relationship was 20 years with his horse Bullet. He never married and his family has all passed on so he is alone. He doesn't sit around waiting to die, he is the life of the party, knows all the other guests and is a friend to everyone. Years of smoking has damaged his lungs so he suffers from COPD. As long as he is careful, he does fine. Albert, Al to his friends, has set his sights on Grace. He is determined to bring a little sunshine into her life and make her his own.

Grace, a widow is 88. She has lived in the area all her life. Her husband passed and then she broke her hip and needed help. She has a son, daughter-in-law, and a granddaughter that lives in the area and visits from time to time. She is not real happy. Married for many years, she is lonely and has decided to just stay in her room and be sad. Albert is determined to help her come back to the land of the living. He stops by her room to speak to her and try to get her to respond to him. She is determined to block him at every chance and just stay gloomy.

This is a very good story. It is not sad or depressing it is just an example of the circle of life. It is really sweet and charming. Being almost 79, I can relate to these characters. If we live long enough we will one day be Grace and Al. The story shows how you are never too old for love and the adults in these facilities do not want to be catered and talked to like they are children. They have had good, full lives. Raised children and partnered the love of their lives (hopefully). They deserve respect and dignity and your time to visit with them. I think there are some very good life lessons in this story. It is a lovely and tender story and I really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend it. It is a good view of hope and love. A good read. Al's Christmas present was a nice touch and I needed a kleenex while reading that part. Loved it.

I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 10/3/2019

This was a nice read. As a senior, this is the first book that has given me hope for my own future. I did not like the nursing home director treating the two seniors like children then tattling to the lady's son. Since marriage is not a health issue, I am not sure if this didn't violate her rights. I was truly inspired by the gift she gave her new husband. That's true love.

A lovely story, reminding us that love can come at any stage of life. My only complaint was the ages she chose for the family, if Grace was 88 then her son had to be in his 50-60's, with a new toddler? It would have made more sense for it to have been her grandson with a younger wife and a new baby. I have friends that age, they have adult grandchildren who have grandchildren on the way, and their children didn't come along til the were in their 20's.

Ms Haymaker this book is incredibly written with just the right touch. Please write some more using seniors. It's almost impossible to find a book talking about senior people who still find love at an older age. Write some more stories also using assistive living conditions. These people still have feeling and they would love to read this book. Yes I am older but live in my own home. Thank you so very much

I bought this book by accident - and I'm really glad I did. I don't remember reading any other book where the H and h are both over the age of 80. This is a very clean read. It was so different that I didn't want to put it down until I finished it. I don't leave a lot of reviews but this book is special. If you have aging parents or are an aging parent, this book gives hope for all ages. This is the first book by this author that I have read. I'm almost scared to read another by her because I don't know how can she top this one.
