Played (Auctioned Book 5) Kindle Edition
Book 5 of 7 • MM • Romantic Suspense • Hurt/Comfort •Trauma • Age Difference • Military • Reluctant Hero
The Auctioned Series is a journey packed with action, nail-biting suspense, family, and love. In Gray and Darius’s fight for freedom and a future where they aren’t haunted by the ghosts of their pasts, they’ll make you laugh, cry, possibly yell at your e-reader, and swoon just a little bit.
One last mission. One last operation—and the stakes had never been higher. Truth be told, Darius was exhausted. He didn’t want his past mingling with the life he was building with Gray and the kids, but he had no choice.
They were facing their biggest threat yet, and in order to even stand a chance, Darius had to revert to the man he’d once been. He had to set aside fatherhood and love and be the grunt, the private contractor, the soldier who went deep behind enemy lines.
It was time to rally the troops. With Gray by his side, Darius cashed in the last of his favors and put together a crew that would hopefully help them bring an end to this chaotic year. The desert waited for them. Again. So did Las Vegas.
The problem with Vegas…?
Just when you thought you knew how to play the game, it played you.
This story takes place in Cara Dee’s Camassia Cove Universe, a fictional town where all books/series’ stand on their own, unless otherwise stated. The Auctioned Series should be read in the following order: Auctioned, Stranded, Deserted, The Job, Played, Finished, and Prepared.

About the author

Romance Across the Spectrum.
I’m often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.
There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly.
Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.
I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.
Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.
I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, cooking, baking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and family, too. But mostly, I just love to write.
~Cara.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis book starts out with a lot of low-angst family life and preparations for the upcoming mission. Then, the last third of the book really heats up as the mission to take down the traffickers and slavers, while rescuing the abducted, begins. In the meantime, Gray and Darius deepen their relationship while facing some insecurities. Also, their life with their two boys continues to cement. This book is exciting and action-packed. It ends on a cliff-hanger, so be prepared to start Bk 6 immediately. You won't want to wait!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 15, 2021Format: KindleVerified Purchase“I can’t even wish away the hell I went through anymore, because it brought me to you and the boys.”
That quote right there was everything I wanted for those two. I love how their relationship becomes more solid in each book, I love how they talk everything out and not let it fester especially with Darius struggling with his feelings and being in awe and a bit scared with how open Gray is about everything!
'No! I'm feeling a bunch of EF feelings, and it's freaking me the EF out.'
"I feel too much, Gray!"
These are Darius gold!!
I can't wait for Cara to give us all the dirty details when it comes to their "first encounters"! There was something there about what a hit it was when Gray was playing the babysitter!!!
Now when it comes to the other part of the plot since the end of that was kinda spoilered in The Job I can't say it was exciting or satisfying even with the major plot twist, that caught me completely off guard, at the last part of the story. But that's just me!
Off to read the next part and see how everything ends because yeah... a tad of a cliffhanger there!

I can't praise Cara Dee enough, she's one of my favorite writers, and Auctioned is one of her most pivotal works.
Gray and Darius just keep growing as a couple. You've got their found family.
This book was so good, but it's a major cliffhanger for the last book, which thankfully is already on the way.
I'm going to be so sad when this series ends. As with most Cara Dee books, things can get rough. This series deals with the topic of human trafficking. If you're on book four, hopefully, you're aware of that, but for those of you just looking into the series, please keep that in mind.
I really need my book five HEA.
5/5 Would read again and will buy the physical books.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 8, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is the series that just keeps on giving and giving and giving!! Giving you glimpses of the intimate connection between Darius & Gray and their boys, glimpses into friendships that are really brotherhoods, sadly glimpses of betrayal that cuts so so deep your heart will shattered!!! You also gets to see our boys in action!!! They might have been played, but don’t think for a second that they don’t come out swinging!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI absolutely loved seeing Gray and Darius as fathers to Justin and Jayden, it was just adorable. They are warm, loving, and see that each boy has individual needs (like Justin with the noise canceling headphones) and helps them in whatever way they need.
I was especially happy seeing that the team was going to try and take down the trafficking organization. They are well informed and seem to have everything they need to complete the mission. But that betrayal... and that cliffhanger.... ugh. I can't wait for the next book (even if it is the last) to see what happens.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseDarius has settled into life with Gray and their two adopted boys in the forest cabin he built. It was not at all how he saw his life going, but he wouldn't trade it for anything. However, there's still some unfinished business for the two men: tracking down the mastermind of the human trafficking ring that kidnapped Gray. That will help give the young man the closure he needs.
Time-wise, this book overlaps the previous volume of the series, The Job. It covers what Darius, Gray, and their friends are up to while Casey and Boone gather intelligence in Las Vegas. You will definitely want to have read that book, as well as the rest of the series, before reading this one. That said, there are only a couple scenes in common between the two stories, which we get from different points of view.
Once again, Darius brings in his brother Ryan to help, along with several other trusted people he's worked with before, some of whom I recognize from other series by the same author. They also manage to find Niko, one of the other young men Darius helped to rescue along with Gray. It's a large crew worthy of a big-budget heist movie.
Before it all kicks off. Gray and Darius find some time to discuss at least a few of their lingering issues. The pair have had a lot to deal with, from simple things like their age difference to more complicated problems like the way they met in traumatic circumstances and instant fatherhood. In the end, they definitely seem like a couple that will make it for the long haul, if they survive this last mission.
You'd best be warned that this installment of the series ends on something of a cliffhanger. If you've read “The Job,” then you probably have an idea of how things turn out, but you'll probably want to read the next book of the series sooner rather than later. I know I will.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 16, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis series only keeps on getting BETTER! 5.0 out of 5 stars WOW amazing action series just gets better
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI can’t say too much without giving things away but WOW. This book ends with a cliffhanger but as the next one is already out it means that I don’t have to murder anyone to find out what happens. I have adored this series from the first book and it just keeps getting better and more interesting. Definitely recommend reading it in order and I definitely recommend this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseReally enjoyed this book, I am not giving anything away about it as you really should just give it a go. I will say you will be better to read the other books first the characters draw you in and the story can be hard hitting but so worth reading.
