Book 6 of 7 • MM • Romantic Suspense • Hurt/Comfort •Trauma • Age Difference • Military • Reluctant Hero
The Auctioned Series is a journey packed with action, nail-biting suspense, family, and love. In Gray and Darius’s fight for freedom and a future where they aren’t haunted by the ghosts of their pasts, they’ll make you laugh, cry, possibly yell at your e-reader, and swoon just a little bit.

In a race against time, Gray didn’t allow himself to consider defeat. He refused. They couldn’t lose now. Darius had to be okay. Oh God, he had to be okay.

One minute and twelve seconds had passed since the guys in the compound had started collapsing, and Gray could hear Darius in his mind, calling him knucklehead in that sharp tone that demanded attention. Pull it together, focus, get the job done. So with his heart threatening to pound its way out of his rib cage, Gray let this final task become his one and only mission. They were gonna finish the operation once and for all, and they were gonna walk away with a bright future ahead of them. A future that promised family, new adventures, and freaking farm animals.

This was it.

This story takes place in Cara Dee’s Camassia Cove Universe, a fictional town where all books/series’ stand on their own, unless otherwise stated. The Auctioned Series should be read in the following order: Auctioned, Stranded, Deserted, The Job, Played, Finished, and Prepared.

Romance Across the Spectrum.

I’m often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.

There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly.

Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.

I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, cooking, baking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and family, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

~Cara.

A fantastic end to the series and closure for characters that stole my heart! Cara manages to tie up all the loose ends, give Darius and Gray their HEA, and leave me smiling and crying at the same time. This book was everything I needed it to be. As always, the characters crossing over from her other books add richness and depth to the universe. I adore so many of the side characters and always want more of everyone. (I'm SO looking forward to learning Niko's story! The teases about Darius and Gray visiting Mclean also made me giddy. Just the thought of Gray, Abel, Kitt, and Shay hanging out with their men!! Be still my heart!)

If you've been holding out on reading this series until it was complete, I absolutely recommend diving into it! Finished is shorter than the other books in the series, but it does everything it needs to and doesn't feel rushed or like anything is missing. I was completely satisfied while at the same time selfishly wishing it would never end. I wish I could give the series infinity stars!

As long as you've read the entire series to this point, this novella really delivers a very satisfying end to the main mission, although one more book remains in the series. The mission itself is wrapped up. Then, the focus is on reuniting the family and solidifying the primary relationships. Darius and Gray fall even deeper in love. Really exciting and enjoyable reading full of a diverse group of friends and family with a love that will go on forever.

The operation to take out the mastermind of the human trafficking operation has gone sideways. Now, Gray is heading to the abandoned brothel, not knowing if Darius is alive or dead. Gray is sure the man who rescued him was the one he was going to spend the rest of his life with, so he has no idea what he'll do if Darius doesn't make it. It's time to put all his training to work.

As you should know by now, this series has to be read in order. Since the previous book, Played, ended on something of a cliffhanger, I decided to read and review this one sooner rather than later. Of course, if you've also read the fourth book, The Job, then you're not too worried about how things turn out. Then again, as with the entire series, it's what happens after all the action is over that's important.

This volume of the series is entirely from Gray's point of view. He's a very different person from the frightened and abused young man we met in the first book. We still get glimpses of doubt and fear, so his transformation, achieved with Darius' help, is very believable.

Since the story picks up more or less in the middle, it ends up being almost an instant page-turner. Even after the action at the compound winds down, you still want to keep reading to find out if the men all get away safely.

Wow….just thinking about Gray from Power Play to this book it’s so amazing to see his growth as a character!!!!! I love stories where the two main characters meet and just connect on such a deep profound level!!! Gray was everything Darius didn’t even know he needed!! The family they create together is what fairytales are made of!!

    Gray and Darius

The events that led these two to one another were quite tragic. There were many difficult moments while reading their story in this series. Gray's character was amazing. I love that he got the hea he did. It was fitting and perfect for him and Darius.

This book was like a soothing balm on my heart. There is a lot less stress and action than in previous books. And a lot more heartfelt moments. Darius, Grey, and their boys are the most endearing family ever. I loved everything about this book, even the bit about Darius's prepping coming in handy. It was such a nice way to tie in our world while still making sense.

So the spoilered ending of the series through The Job novel was quite traumatic for me and I really couldn't feel excitement and satisfaction in how that part of the plot was handled.

Truth be told I'm glad I waited for this to read the 4th book, Played, because well this one was short and felt more like the 4th book's epilogue. I think Cara wanted to break each part of the story in different books but this one didn't work that well. In the end it felt like not much really happened when pretty much it was one heck of a closure with as much a happy ending, for the victims and everyone participating in the mission, as one can get when it's about human trafficking and betrayal.

I love all the things in Darius's Big List and I'd love to see some of them in the future come to fruition in a short story or newsletter snippets or whatever. I just can't let these four boys go! Especially with such a small glimpse to the future, even though Cara does promise for a bigger peek in their future. I want to see Jayden call Darius and Gray, Dad! I want to see Justin's first day in kindergarten or first grade! I want to see Darius gloat over being right about a certain event! And I want to see Gray dressing Darius in three piece suit with the vest and all.

I received an ARC from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review.

Normally, I wouldn’t sign up for a series this long focusing mainly on two characters. BUT I loved every single minute I spent reading this series. It’s so much more than a romance - it’s enlightening, suspenseful and a story about resilience. It was so easy for me to forget these weren’t real people. I’m gutted that this is the end of their story tho.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous ending to main story
Reviewed in Canada on August 23, 2021
This series started off with a bang but definitely did not end with a whimper. This appears to be the end of the main kidnapping ring story but there is apparently one more book to come centered around Darius and Gray and I’m sure they will show up in Cara Dee’s Camassia Cove books somewhere along the way. This is one of the best things I’ve enjoyed about her books, that they are so interconnected and you get glimpses of characters from other books. I love how this series followed one couple and mostly one big situation because you get to know things so much better than when there is only one book. The thing that I felt most intensely with this book was the stark contrast between home and working on bringing the kidnappers down. Part of it is the physical places and the description of how people feel about these different places and what happens when they are there. But there is also how people end up feeling that they have to go and become violent to safeguard what they have at home and to make it so that other victims will be able to find that feeling of home again. This is reflected even in the children that Darius and Gray want to adopt and how their thoughts and feelings about home and what it means are cleverly written into the book. This mainly is an action series about a kidnapping ring and action and the need to be ready for problems coming your way is woven through the books but the story is also about love, hope, home and family that you are born into and the kind you find along the way. Isn’t that something we all need right now. This series needs to be read in order. Enjoy.
