Blood Song: A Fantasy Romance (Warriors of the Five Realms Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 735 ratings

She owes her blood. He’ll pay with his life.

Ruthless assassin Gabriel has little fear and even fewer scruples. Every head has a price, and every hunt is a thrill. He saunters through life on a tightrope, mocking fate and defying death with every step. So when he’s forced to hunt down and deliver a prophesied blood sacrifice, Gabriel has no reason to expect trouble. Until he realizes just who the mark is—a wildcat of a woman with dark eyes and an even darker secret…

She may be voiceless, but she speaks to his soul, and giving her up may be a cost too steep to bear.

Shyaree has lived her whole life under the weight of a terrible sin and the shame of her Changelessness. When her brother falls prey to a curse, healing him is her one chance at atonement. Only she never expected to be kidnapped by an arrogant and insufferable fae. She can’t trust him or his bargains…or can she? He’s a cutthroat bent on using her, yet working with him may be the only way to survive…

He demands her blood, but she can’t deny the way he calls to her body, or the danger he poses to her heart.

Adult enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance!
.𝑶𝑩𝑺𝑬𝑺𝑺𝑬𝑫. It’s the only way to describe how I feel about the 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐦𝐬 series. This series is so under-hyped! If you like intense world building, alpha warrior men, Fae/magic, and Romantasy you should definitely check these out! The review below is for book 3, 𝑩𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝑺𝒐𝒏𝒈. I highly recommend starting with either the prequel, Lullaby Scars, or book one, Little Fire. “𝙃𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙤 𝙩𝙤 𝙮𝙤𝙪, 𝙩𝙤𝙤, 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙘𝙖𝙩.” “𝙃𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙤, 𝙂𝙖𝙗𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙡 𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚,” I’m not normally a nickname gal, but the ones Gabriel and Shyaree chose for each other had me swooning. I simply loved the banter back and forth between these two. Shyaree is voiceless, which means she primarily uses sign language to communicate and although that sounds like it would be difficult to read in a book, this author did fantastic. The language used to communicate this style and the back and forth with the two characters was seamless. I was amazed I was reading a voiceless character so easily. The touch her and die vibes were 🔥! Two people motivated by family and loyalty willing to sacrifice anything for their siblings at the expense of themselves. This was an incredible installment in the the Warriors of the Five Realms series and a must-read for any adult fantasy romance reader! “𝙃𝙚 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙖𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙖 𝙧𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙗𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙤𝙣 𝙙𝙚𝙫𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙤𝙪𝙡. I will preface this by saying I found Evangeline's character boring (her story plot was great though), and I could scarcely stand Declan. I thought Little Fire was okay and Winter Sun was a slog. I had made up my mind to abandon the series--until I learned that Blood Song would be focusing on Gabriel's story. Gabriel has steadily become my most favorite character since his introduction, and I was very excited to read his story. I am thrilled to report the author delivered on this one.

I really enjoyed learning more about Gabriel. It was interesting seeing the more vulnerable side of him and I enjoyed witnessing the daring wit of his adventures. But honestly, Shyaree was the star of this one. I *adored* her. It was fascinating to see the world through her eyes, and to witness her courage and strength as she faced her struggles. She was just much more of an interesting FMC and I loved reading her passages. I agree with the other reviewer that said the storyline didn't feel wrapped up quite to satisfaction, but I won't dock any points on the rating for it simply because I was more interested in the chemistry between Gabriel and Shyaree than the plot about the siblings to begin with.

More generally, I think Mands does a really great job of creating fantastic worlds of whimsy and wonder. The lore she's built up in this series is fascinating. However, I find her characters difficult to get invested in and, as a matter of preference, I don't care for her writing style. I haven't decided if I'll read the other books in the series, but Blood Song definitely made me reconsider walking away entirely.

This book was good but not as good as Little Fire and Winter Sun. That being said, I still recommend this to any reader who enjoys high fantasy. They are both using the other for their own gains. She feels guilty for her brother's curse and he feels guilty for his sister's death. These feelings lead them on fantastical journey to Thurin Mountaian. Home of the cragaliths. They also find their way into the Winter Court where evil abounds. There is much adventure, gore, romance and suspense before the end. Definitely read this one. But after the first two or you will be lost.

The author stated that she felt this book may not have been her easiest, but sometimes, a new start like she did is the answer. I honestly thought this book was going to be a series, but im glad it wasn't because I was able to read the whole story. No hints, but the last part at Shay's portal back to her clan was my favorite. But, if the author was to add to this series, I am very interested in Quentin's story. I enjoyed this story, as well as the other ones, but I really liked Shay's character, especially since I'm hard of hearing, and "handspeak" is important and was represented. Thank you! Can't wait for more!!

While this book did not capture my heart the way Little Fire did, Mands still managed to win me with Gabriel and Shyaree's love story. I love the worldbuilding in this book, and am always glad when I get to read more about a new fantasy world in a series. I really enjoyed reading about the Animati realm and its customs and Shyaree's background. And of course, always happy with a happy ending. Really intrigued by the epilogue! I look forward to the next book in the series

She’s fantastic. No, not just the heroine. The author! I am in awe of her ability to spin a tale. Not the least of her talents, her command of the English language is on point. And thank you thank you thank you so much to the proofreading and editing team because there’s nothing more distracting than reading a book that’s full of typos and grammatical mistakes and I am so pleased to find this one easy on the persnickety nerve. Oh my God, so completely enthralling, so deeply rich in emotional intensity and dialogue. I’m so majorly impressed with the storytelling skill. I loved reading this, even through the bits I chafed against in the beginning. Yes, I knew where they were headed but that didn’t prevent me from agreeing with Shyaree in all of her assessments of Gabriel’s character … so pleased to be enmeshed in such well differentiated personalities. Just as strong a piece as Declan’s and Evie’s story (Little Fire). Cannot wait for the next one!!

I could tell the author struggled with this one. Love the first two books and look forward to the next one,

This one however while a good read seemed a little too broken for me. The siblings both are trying to rescue - I really didn’t like how that part was resolved.

His supposed Allies are hindrances and traitors.

It is tricky to describe but I felt that this was a broken story and not enough time to heal and be happy with one another with a bittersweet ending.

Anyways will pick up next one in the series.

Oh this author is such a good writer. Her descriptions, characterisations, world and story building is excellent. I delved into this story and couldn’t put it down until I had finished. Fast paced, lots of edge of your seat action and a very satisfying ending. Highly recommend this and all her other stories, it’s a must read!

Hollee Mandes is diamond that will no doubt shine brighter as continues to write. Brilliant use of language thats not often seen, so refreshing to be educated at the same time as being totally transfixed on the characters and storyline. Wonderfully pitched with just the right amount of everything . I don't normally provide a review, but as young writer and the series being her first ever books... Wow!

I absolutely adore Gabriel and Shyaree. I think I love their story even more than Declan and Evie's.

The way they both see the best in each other and build each other up, and go absolutely feral for each other's protection while knowing they can also usually take care of themselves. They don't balk at each other's pasts. I just, I love them. They both came so far and changed so much, but without the expectation to change FOR someone else, they pushed each other to be the best versions of themselves FOR themselves and found each other in the process.

The plot twists threw me! I should have expected some, but I didn't. I was engrossed in the story. It sucked me right in.

I literally stopped reading 2 other books and DEVOURED this. It was one of my most anticipated reads this year and it did not disappoint!

I can't wait to see what happens next and see who else we get to follow.

Blood song was a great surprise, I didn't know that book was about Gabriel and Shyaree actually. I was a bit disapointed at first, but I clunged to it very quickly.
And I'm glad that I did because I loved Gabriel and Shyaree story. It was fun, moving, adventurous and sometimes heartbreaking.
