Broken Lands (Broken Nature Book 1) Kindle Edition
A domed city, devoid of memories …
Broken Lands. Broken Nature.
Long ago, the mysterious Broken Apocalypse ravaged Earth, drying up its surface water and reducing its soil to dust. Billions perished of thirst. But a lucky few survived by tapping into deep, underground reservoirs.
Titus Foster has never ventured past Natica's massive walls. Nobody has. Nobody who's lived to tell about it, anyway. But that was before the inexplicable earthquake, before it devastated Natica's precious water supply. Now, he must trek into the lethal, barren hinterlands. Fighting his way through crumbling ruins, lethal storms, and enormous, violent creatures, he'll search for answers. What he finds will challenge everything he knows about the world … and himself.
Meanwhile, Kayden Kell doesn't remember anything. And she's not the only one with that problem. Nobody remembers anything. Not the strange apartments they awoke in nor the weird, black dome that surrounds their high-tech city. But she doesn't have time to worry about any of that. Because she's on the run, caught up in a sinister conspiracy she barely understands. Fighting to survive, she'll take a daring chance, one that will lead her straight to Titus … and the terrifying truth about their reality.
Broken Lands is a thrilling post-apocalyptic adventure, perfect for readers of James Rollins, Matthew Reilly, Greig Beck, & Preston & Child. Turn pages long into the night as international bestselling author David Meyer takes you on a ride you'll never forget!

About the author

David Meyer is an author, marble-maze builder, sock puppet aficionado, wannabe cartoonist, a creator of some things and breaker of others, a yogi and martial artist, and the owner of the reddest hair you’ve ever seen.
He’s a man of few apps, but many books. Creatively, he prefers to work in circles, following “the pull” rather than pushing. He’s tried—and abandoned—nearly every productivity tool known to man. He likes new ideas, old stories, and the big picture. He dislikes small talk, busyness, and infinite scrolling.
He’s married to the wife of his youth, who knows his worst, yet loves him best. He’s also father to what just happens to be his two favorite children of all time.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 3, 2023It was a little difficult for me to follow. I read a lot of books and I think this is a good author that will evolve in to a best selling novelist!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2020I’m a fan of David Meyer’s and when I saw he had a new book coming out I knew I had to have it. Merry Christmas to me! His work immediately pulls you in and really makes it hard to put down. I’m most excited that he has more in this series coming out in 2021. If you liked his Cy Reed adventures, you’ll be familiar with his style and I think you’ll really like these futuristic stories. If you haven’t read the Cy Reed books yet, that’s okay. These definitely stand on their own.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2021From celebrated author David Meyer comes the first in his "Broken Nature" trilogy, a three-part fiction series involving a reluctant traveler on a mission through a barren, dystopian, landscape to combat a threat against the only remaining water left on the planet. This should prove a compelling read for any science fiction genre enthusiasts looking for an engaging new story to sink their teeth into.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 31, 2020Having read the author’s previous books, I was excited for this new read. Ended up reading in just two days. The story moves real quick, with two separate stories/characters/settings intersecting, it never got boring. Would definitely recommend Broken Lands and looking forward to the next book in the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 31, 2021Broken Lands, by David Meyer
What are your visions of a dystopian future versus a utopian one? Would you imagine a grim future where a barren desert wasteland stretches out around your walled city, as its remaining inhabitants struggle to obtain and ration out scant, precious water? Would your ideal future be an immaculate, glistening city, where your every need is met at the blink of an eye, the air is sweet and clean, and you live forever? And what if you were wrong about which one was the ideal?
In David Meyer’s latest novel, Broken Lands – the first of a three-part adventure series – he imagines both, and we experience them through the eyes of one inhabitant of each world. Titus will be the future king of his sweltering city, as he struggles with his belief system in the long-followed code of conduct, and wonders at what lies beyond the walls, out in “the hinterlands.” When a water crisis reaches critical mass, Titus must form an exploration team to venture out, and shock after shock await him.
Kayden awakens in her bedroom with zero memories of who or where she is. As she stumbles out into the charming cobblestone streets, more questions arise. What is going on? Why is she in this quaint village? And why is the sky so perfectly dark?
Meyer knows just where to cut off a scene to ratchet up the suspense. As we bounce back-and-forth between these two futures, we rush long, dying to know how the two relate, if at all. Will dystopia and utopia ever come together? How did they come to be in the first place? The author keeps us flipping pages urgently, looking for clues and trying to anticipate the twists and turns in the stories.
This reviewer has always enjoyed Meyer’s adventure novels, because the author has a knack for creating peril that seems impossible to escape, time and time again. Titus finds himself in terrifying situations that seem to be grim dead-ends for him, and then the writer reveals a solution in the last breathless second.
Kayden’s seemingly idyllic future domain is also fraught with danger. She finds herself running from apparent authority, without knowing exactly why. She is whip-smart and agile, however, and as the pieces of her memory fall into place, she realizes what she must do to uncover the truth.
Broken Lands is a cautionary tale about both futures. War, greed, climate change, blind devotion to belief systems, loyalty, artificial intelligence and the singularity all come together in a tale of warning. The writing very carefully keeps you glued to the pages until the very end, and makes the reader excited to continue the rest of the trilogy.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 3, 2021This is not the typical genre that I go for, so I was surprised at how quickly I was drawn into this book. The story moves fast and the whole time I was reading it I was thinking how I would love to see this made into a movie. There is one exciting scene after another, and David Meyer does a great job describing the scenery and characters. The concepts and themes in the story (origins of religion, human goodness or lack of, eternal life) were presented in a unique and thought provoking way, and were particularly relevant to the world that we live in today. I am excited for the next two books in the series, and to see where David Meyer takes us in this exciting and unique story.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2021As always, buckle up and get ready for an excellent adventure! I have been a fan of David and his writing for quite sometime and his latest book, Broken Lands did not disappoint! It was a fast-paced experience that will have you flipping the pages in furious fashion. I am anxious to read the follow book in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interesting.....
I love Meyers books, especially the Cy Reed one’s, so when this new series turned up, I immediately bought it. It is set in a future, although when that is is not yet apparent. There has been some kind of climactic disaster that has left humanity on the edge and the worlds water gone. We are then pulled into two stories, one about a remnant of humanity surviving with little water, and the other about a seemingly amazing city, where everyone has woken up without their memories. The story winds these two strings together until they combine into an interesting story that I want more off. Can’t wait until the second part in Feb and third part in May. I want to know what happens to the characters and where the story, in both cases, goes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great apocalypse novel
I read this in a few days. Good story reminds me in part of Logan's Run mixed with The Matrix. Already have the next two ordered and look forward to seeing how the story progresses.
