Brutal Alien (A Steamy Sci-Fi Romance): Barbarian Clans of Xavren: Book 4 Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 233 ratings

I hate everyone but her.

Zuvath

It has been a year since the second transport of humans arrived and trust is in short supply. They keep to the settlement, determined to create their own community without the untrustworthy aliens who got them into this mess. All of them except for Ellen. She breaks the rules for me—sneaking out to hunt together, riding our
komoth and even hiding away in secret caves where she lets me touch her secret places.

I want her but no one knows what we get up to when we’re alone. If we were discovered, it could ruin the fragile peace between our kind.

Ellen

I’ve always been a people pleaser and that personality trait extends to Xavren. The barbarians are my friends but so are the humans. They rely on me. They count on my leadership. If I mated with a barbarian, they would see it as the ultimate betrayal to what we’ve accomplished and what we’re striving toward.

Zuvath has taught me how to survive here. Always the brooding grump, he’s different with me—correcting my bow form when we hunt, watching me closer than he needs to, saving the best pieces of meat for me. Somehow he’s become more important to me than anyone else…and I can’t tell a soul about it.

When we stumble on a foolish plan by the humans, we’ll use our strong bond to try to prevent disaster.

Brutal alien is book four in the Barbarians of Xavren Series. It is a steamy sci-fi romance, no cheating, no cliffhanger, HEA guaranteed! It can be read as a standalone.

    Barbarians. They’re great :)

I was hoping the other tribe would be not total jerks & we’d get sone more world expansion there but alas, they suck.

    This was a great installment.

Ellen arrived on the first ship of Humans to Xavren, and found herself stepping up to help lead the women as the arrivals from the second ship joined them. Now she's discovering they may not have arrived that much later, but she feels like she has a wealth of knowledge and experience they are lacking. When the men from the second ship decide they know best for everyone, and better than anyone, life in the settlement changes, and not for the better.

It was hard enough for Zuvath, living in the mountain with Ellen staying in the settlement, but now the men are controlling who comes and goes, and posturing - declaring they don't need anything from the natives. Subaru might not mind, if they weren't coming between him and Ellen... then again, he feels responsible for all the people in the settlement... even when they make silly choices.

This done in one Kindle Unlimited quick read stands solidly on its own, mentioning the women from the previous books, and including some of the men, but gradually shifting focus to the newer arrivals. Similarly, where the previous books focused on the divide between the tribes/clans and the city, this looks to be setting off more in the direction of the barbarian territories.

I really enjoy this series, and this book was no exception. It was interesting to see what was happening after some time had passed with the new arrivals of humans who were not acquainted with the dangers and politics of the world they find themselves in. Promises made to them are broken and they rely on each other. But their "fearless leader" is freaking nuts and a complete bully which is putting it mildly. Good thing there are some women around willing to stand up and say I'm not sticking around for this. Not the safest idea but it certainly was good at getting results. The main couple in this story involves a human woman from the first arrival of humans and one of the barbarians. They have the forbidden romance going for a while and you can feel the relief when they finally get to be public together with their affection and love for each other. Incredibly hot and steamy scenes generally accompany alone time with them, bit who can blame these guys? They are in love and used to grabbing time together when they can. There is some bloody violence in this book, fair warning. Overall i say this book was amazing, i just love all of the characters (with some exceptions) and look forward to reading Nathalie's story soon perhaps? Maybe Beth? . Brutal Alien is a violent SFR. On the one hand, Zuvath is a hero who is loving and caring to Ellen and like James Bond on steroids when she is in danger then towards the end of the book - he’s in to rough sex?????? Ellen starts the book as a teasing weak heroine morphs into a badass but gets taken advantage of every time by the human male Abel???? After all the training, Zuvath invests in her, I would have expected Ellen as a supposed leader to have taken care of Abel’s abusiveness of the woman early on. I’ve loved the first three books in the series, but this one is such a departure my head is spinning.

This is book 4 in the series and as the author mentioned at the front of the book, this book jumps a few years ahead. There are human males that are against the Barbarians. The human females are under lock and key at the camp. This is an issue for Zuvath and Ellen because they have discovered an attraction. Ellen had to leave the mountain and return to the camp to be with the other single females. What will these two characters do? Read On!

I enjoyed the characters, the steam, the sizzle and the action. This story is about Ellen and Zuvath. Ellen lives in the human settlement and there are humans who distrust the Barbarians as the natives are stronger and bigger than the human men. The human males are cruel and dominating of the human woman. Zuvath and his clansmen treat their women as precious treasures. Ellen and Zuvath have to keep their relationship a secret and sneak around in order to be together. They want more but they are worried about the other human settlers. Will they ever be able to be together where everyone knows about them? Will their love start a war between the natives and the humans?

I loved the first three books in the series and was absolutely thrilled that the series would continue with the second wave of human settlers to land on Xavren. This book features Ellen and Zuvath. Ellen is a strong woman who has become someone of a leader in the human settlement and everyone looks to her for guidance. Only Ellen has a secret, she is friends with one of the Barbarians, Zuvath, in fact they were a little more than friends. Zuvath was so sweet with Ellen and he was dedicated to teaching Ellen, and by extension the humans, how to survive the hardships of Xavren. But if their relationship becomes public knowledge it may just create an incident that could create complete chaos. But when danger comes calling it will either tear them apart or create an unbreakable bond. The characters are incredibly sweet and the love story is romantic and heart-warming whilst the story is entertaining and kept me entertained from start to finish.

This was a good read, but it seemed like every time you look around them two were hot and heavy. Vulturth (I know I spelled his name wrong) made sure he looked out for his Ellen. I loved the epilogue on how they met. I am glad Luna Kingsley added another book to this series. I hope there is a book about Natalie next.

You could not call the stories in these amazing books predictable.
I love how the women who have suffered various traumas find a way to move forward, how the barbarians are learning how to gain the women's trust, making them appear fragile emotionally but would kill for their woman.
These books are hot and steamy, but the the wealth of these books come for excellent stories, ones that grip you and you can't put them down....even when dawn breaks 😉
