4.4 out of 5 stars 1,315 ratings

A map to a place they each desire. A destiny they didn't expect.

The Shadow demon nearly took everything from Dynalya Astron, and it would soon return for more. When she discovers a way to fight back, she must go on a perilous journey and risk it all for those she holds dear.

Along the way, she meets Cassiel, a Celestial Prince with magic blood and wings as black as his heart. He wants nothing to do with Dyna until he learns she could lead him to a place he has been searching for all his life.

But reaching their destination is not as easy as they thought, nor are they the only ones searching for it. With danger at every turn and harrowing secrets between them, the quest will require much more than determination. They must fight for what they desire—or die trying.

For fans of Throne of Glass, The Cruel Prince, and The Lord of the Rings comes Beck Michael's debut novel with remarkable characters, a budding romance, and gripping action. Outstanding debut

Outstanding debut
Beck Michaels's debut novel absolutely blew me away. It was hard to remember this was in fact her first novel, as her writing is seamless. She has mastered world-building to the point I would forget at times I was reading. It was the best reading experience as I felt like I was being pulled into Urn - which I would love to visit if I could! Fans of fantasy need to read this series, as I believe Beck Michaels to be the next Tolkien. Multiple P.O.Vs tend to worry me as they can be difficult to fall, and pull me away from the story - but Divine Blood is written elegantly. Each POV gets you invested and moves the story further along. There is no break in the story! I am completely and utterly obsessed with this series in every way 🖤

This debut novel is everything high fantasy ought to be, a noble quest, a dangerous enemy and a journey filled with peril. But on this journey our protagonist finds one unlikely ally after another, and even love. It is a great book, and hard to believe it is a debut novel for it is very skillfully written. This book focuses a lot on character development, and even with the switching point of views the reader is never lost. It was a very comfortable read! If you like high fantasy I definitely recommend this!

The only things I think would probably benefit this book is perhaps more world building, there’s a lack of creatures and other beasties, we don’t know much about the flora and fauna in this world, I think more on that would be nice. But the next book will probably be more interesting in that aspect, since were going farther. I’m looking forward to meeting the dwarves! And the main antagonist or big bad guy doesn’t have a POV in the story unlike most characters, and though I didn’t particularly want him to have a POV, I think it could add more layers of complexity to the story telling, giving us a glimpse of his motivations, though we way yet have a bad guy monologue at some point!

Looking forward to the next book :)

Ok. Wow. I was not expecting this book. Sure, I read the description and decided to give it a go but was so very surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It has a little bit of everything that I want want from a story and the world was so beautifully written.

Dyna is a human who can wield healing essence, a sort of magic passed down through her blood line. Dyna’s parents and younger brother were taken violently from her when she was 8 years old by a shadow demon. A year out from when the demon is set to return Dyna decides to set out on a quest to find a magic item that will help her defeat the demon and save the children of her village, including her little sister. On her way to find her cousin, Zev, and ask him to go with her she has to venture into a forbidden forest where she is almost killed...twice, but saved...twice... by Cassiel. Cassiel is a tall, dark, Celestial with a haunted past and secret to match.

This book really a little bit of everything in it, from magic, to different mystical beings, to a slow burn romance which is everything I enjoy from a good fantasy. Now, let’s talk main characters, there is Dyna, Zev, and Cassie. Dyna and Zev are cousins and quite protective of each other, specifically Zev towards Dyna as she is really the only family he has left. Dyna and Cassiel are drawn towards one another and don’t know why. Cassiel is everything, EVERYTHING, this girl right here looks for in a leading male. Tall, dark, haunted, giant black wings.... I mean come on...Beck Michaels had me right there but add in that Dyna, the female lead is a fiery redhead with a penchant for healing and magic... I’m in.

I had seen Divine Blood around Bookstagram thanks to some wonderful bookish friends, and I am so glad I finally picked up this book. Beck Michaels delivers everything I love in a swoony YA fantasy: fantastic world-building, interesting characters, great dialogue, and a sweet, slow-burn romance.

I LOVED THIS BOOK. Divine Blood opens with Dyna, a young healer who has lost everything. She decides to go on a journey to try to save her village from a terrible threat from a shadow demon. Along the way, she meets handsome prince Cassiel, a Celestial. Cassiel is distant and rude until he realizes that Dyna may be the key to reaching a destination he has been searching for his entire life. Their lives may be entwined in ways that neither of them expects.

Divine Blood is packed with magical creatures and interesting characters, and each is more compelling than the last. Every character is believable and complex. There are angels, fae, werewolves, vampires, demons, sorcerers, and more. While Divine Blood does end on something of a cliffhanger, I found it to be a very satisfying ending that just made me really excited to read the next book.

I can't recommend it highly enough for fans of Jennifer Armentrout, Laura Thalassa, Holly Black, Raven Kennedy, and Sarah J Maas.

Book two, Bonded Fate, is out on August 3. I can't wait to see where Michaels takes us next on this journey.

Welcome to the world of Urn, where hidden villages and creatures reside. When Dyna's village council ignores the warning of an impending darkness that robs them of their children, the young mage must make the decision to leave what is left of her family and search for the one thing that will dispel the darkness.

On her journey through the world that wishes her dead, Dyna meets Cassiel, who believes her to be a stupid human, until he realizes he also seeks the destination she is headed for. They pick up her cousin Zev along the way (who is also full of surprises) and continue their journey. This is a group that would never come together under normal circumstances.

Divine Blood is a must-read for anyone who enjoys fantasy. The world Beck Michaels created is incredible. With every page turn, I felt as though I was standing right there with the characters.

Each character, main and even the ones that just came in for a second were so real. Dyna, Cassiel, and Zev each had a heart-wrenching story and at one point, I just wanted to step in and give them all a hug and tell them it was going to be okay, even though I was unsure myself.

This book brought out all of my emotions multiple times, and left me in tears, fits of anger, and bouts of laughter.

I haven't been so into a book since college, and I finished in two days. I didn't do anything else for those two days, but that isn't the point. Michaels makes you keep turning that page, and when you hit the cliffhanger, you'll want to ask for the second book, even if it isn't ready yet

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic Fantasy with a slow burn romance

A book with celestials, werewolves, and magic, oh my!
    Checklist:
A cinnamon roll leading lady who is captivating and adorable. Check.
A haunted, deeply scarred and overly protective Werewolf to whom you just want to cuddle, telling him everything is going to be okay? Double check.
A brooding, sarcastic Celestial who you want to in equal parts scold and flirt with? Triple Check!
The fantasy world the author created is so intricate and captivating, the characters are beautifully written (I have favourites - I’m looking at you Zev.)
There are multiple POV’s but I’d consider Dynalya, Zev and Cassiel the main trio who push this epic tale forward.
That ending!!!! It’s was like a BAM moment where you turn the page and rage when the words are no more and the only thing you can do is howl into the wind, “Bring me book 2!”

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone must try the story
Reviewed in India on December 25, 2023
Great!! An absolutely fascinating story!! A story that starts with a very simple task of finding a solution to slay a demon shadow. It goes on with lots of twists and turns and turns into a bigger picture of the supernatural and the world of the unknown. It is so much more than a simple one.

I appreciate Beck for writing the story in multiple POVs , it gives the story a wide girth for understanding and world-building. It's complexity is peeled-off layer by layer and gets more interesting as they move forward in their journey. It is not an easy fleet but as a team they are making their way, revealing mystery surrounding their journey.

The characters have a hard past and they are molded as per it. They are being put to the test by fate and it is quite admirable to see the determination. Dyna is a very kind soul with a heart so big that everything is forgiven in her mind. She is pure and lovable. She is the main character and the story revolves around her. I really enjoyed reading her POVs.

Zev and Cassiel are the other important MCs, they are Wolf and Celestial long forgotten by humans. They both are unique with different traits and energy. I find Cassiel very mysterious but Zev is such a cutie and is soft for Dyna. I want to know more about both of them and the situation they all are walking into.

I have so many questions at this point, some are answered, but new ones arise the very next moment. I wish to know more about the Villain and the other people whose POVs I have read in the book. Everyone in the story has some or the other role to play that leads to the journey, everyone offers something to look forward to.

    It’s 4.5⭐️ for me.

This book is beautifully written from start to finish. It has been a long time since I’ve read an adventure story I’ve so thoroughly enjoyed. All the characters are well fleshed out and developed and the world building paints a masterly crafted and vivid picture. Purchase this book. I have this book on kindle but will be purchasing a hard copy for my bookshelf also, it’s that good. I am very much anticipating the next instalment. This story will stay with me. What a gem.
