Call of Elespen: The Epic Conclusion (Keepers of the Wellsprings Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.9 out of 5 stars 45 ratings

“Four offerings claimed. Two left. One, I can easily get. Ceras’lain. The other, Elespen. I don’t know much about that place. Only what I saw from the ship while I escaped from Sunteri. A jungle on either side of a wide river. A city I was forbidden to enter. Forbidden, even though I didn’t even realize it at the time…” -Tib, Dreamstalker, escaped slave

“They know our victory is nearing. They know we’re the Champions of Light. They’d rather keep us here, trapped in their lair, distracted from our quest to restore Brindelier and claim the Wellsprings.” -Flitt, fairy companion to Sir Azi Hammerfel

A vindictive Sorcerer King with a century-old grudge has spent decades gathering an army obsessed with claiming what their master feels he’s owed. Threatened by his dark dealings and sinister followers, will the Champions of Light succeed in claiming Brindelier’s Wellspring for the Dawn, or will its vast power fall forever into the hands of the unforgiving Dusk?

Make the choice: Dawn, or Dusk, and ally yourself with dragons, fairies, mages, knights, and muses in the epic conclusion to the Keepers of the Wellsprings series.

Missy Sheldrake is an epic daydreamer and a muse of positivity who weaves worlds full of character-driven, complex fantasy adventures.

In 2014, she dusted off an unfinished, Tassy Walden Award-winning manuscript from her college days, started writing her first novel, Call of Kythshire, and never looked back. In four short years, she completed the five-book Keepers of the Wellsprings series, an epic high-fantasy young adult adventure that was awarded the Golden Squirrel Independent Book Award in 2017 for Best Fantasy.

When she isn't writing, Missy can be found creating fantastical artworks in paint and clay, wandering hidden forest paths, and concocting plots for imaginary people who are beyond real to her. I loved the characters and how they work together to achieve their goals. The heroism is spread over a number of sometimes very unlikely (at first) looking characters and it's all tied up neatly at the end. I hated to see this series end and will now look to see what else Missy Sheldrake has written!!

Wow! What an ending to the story. The way the story playa out is amazing! I used to only like Azi, but tgis last book has given me a deep love for every character. The final scenes are so emotional that I nearly cried. It is amazing to think about how far tge characters have come since the begining book. Many serieses i have read recently have let down endings, but this story positively glows with magic.

In this finale of the Keepers of the Wellsprings series, we find a more mature, seasoned Azi (and friends). The characters’ growth and predicament is not altogether unlike that of the wizards from Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows. “Dawn” and “Dusk” become tangible entities that help and hinder the young, realistic characters. While it may be easy to cast Azi as the heroine of this narrative, the author carefully unfolds the fantasy with multiple perspectives and in doing so makes it difficult to choose a favorite. The reader is pulled along as each narrator struggles with their own thoughts on the meaning of family, love, and honor.

The Keepers of the Wellsprings series provides an enchanting superhero story full of fairies and leaders with magical powers. For those readers that like to jump right into an adventure, starting with the second book, Call of Sunteri, should be just fine. If you want to get the full introduction to the mystical world as Azi does, then you will want to start at the beginning. In all of the books, I appreciate the author’s focus on hope: fighting not to lose hope, giving others hope and finding hope, even in the darkness. One recurring message reminds the reader that even when a single person isn’t strong enough to win, standing up for what is right brings strength and hope to so many more who can and will continue the good fight.

Missy Sheldrake, with words alone, created a world full of magic and light, people I'm glad to know and make me wish it was a travel destination. Movie, please.

Well-worth reading with clean writing and absolutely charmingly beautiful illustrations. It is a classic story about the struggle between good and evil, the balance between darkness and light and redemption and forgiveness.
