Fae's Captive Kindle Edition

4.2 4.2 out of 5 stars 5,569 ratings

My college roommate is the worst. Cecile steals my food, brings guys over at all hours, and parties instead of studying. But those quirks pale in comparison to what she does next. She drugs me, and I wake up imprisoned in an alternate universe full of terrifying creatures. Now, the biggest and scariest creature of all--a fae king--believes I'm his mate. He's freed me from the dungeon but keeps me close. So close, in fact, that I'm beginning to like his wintery gaze and ice-chiseled body. But secrets and villains lurk throughout this new world, and I don't know if I'll survive long enough to figure out how to get back home.
Author's Note: Fae's Captive is the first book in a series that will set your imagination--and other parts of you--on fire. Mind the cliff, but book 2 is already out.

I LOOOOOVE THIS BOOK SO MUCH!I am not a person who reads books at all, but when I started reading this, I just couldn’t stop reading! It’s so good! I honestly don’t care if the rest of the books cost more or if the end in Clift hangers. These people down bellow have no idea of what they are talking about.

There are tons of fae books running amuck in kindle unlimited but let me just say you’d be remised by not reading this one! The banter between characters is amazing.

Yes, it's sort of "just a teaser", but if you don't know by now that this is exactly how modern short-format smut-writers make their money, then you obviously haven't looked into it. That's exactly how the format works (and I've read "How-To" books by these authors, so I know the "big secret"): You write something to hook the reader and offer it cheap-- then you raise the price for each new chapter now that they're dying to read it. Sounds underhanded, but when you add it all up, $10-$15 is how much you'd pay for a paperback book these days. It's not an obscene price to pay.

And I admit, I took the bait, thinking a little $.99 piece of fluff would distract me for half an hour and then I'd go on with my life. I wasn't actually expecting to *like* it. Lots of smutty fantasy romance is written so poorly these days that you're better off going to Archive Of Our Own and just reading sexy fanfiction that is *WAY* better-written. This, though, was a pleasant surprise. Taylor acts more like an actual *person* than most of the empty, doltish heroines you see in so much casual wish-fulfillment fiction; she reacts pretty naturally to a bizarre, impossible, life-changing situation, but is neither too disbelieving nor too casually accepting. She isn't a "blank slate" character without personality or will, and thank gods, she isn't *annoying*.
I disliked the back-and-forth first-person-POV alternating chapters at first-- I hate first-person, but it's what just about every "urban fantasy" author these days feels compelled to write in-- and I especially hate the "bouncing back and forth between two characters' perspectives by chapter" format, but when your only reading choice is "first-person POV" anyway, it's the closest you can get to seeing things in third-person omniscient (so that you basically get to know the characters from their own thoughts on the inside *and* from other characters observing and reacting to them). I got used to the Taylor-then-Leander-then-Taylor-POV format surprisingly fast; maybe I'm just more forgiving these days.
Anyway, it was so surprisingly good that it did its job admirably; when I was done reading this, I went straight back to buy parts two, three, and four. I'm a sucker, but if the writing stays good, the plot stays interesting, and the smut turns out to be hot, I probably won't regret it.

At first I was a bit upset at how short this was and then realized it only cost .99c. All in all the story wasn't too bad at that price.

The story starts off w Taylor in college and you feel for her since she has this crappy roommate. Those of us who've lived on campus and have lived thru crazy roommates can relate. Things then take a turn for the weird when Taylor is drugged and shipped to a whole nother realm. My first issue is the lack of info on how Taylor got there. Not enough fleshing out on the realm and courts. There is a slight build up w Taylor and Leander but it feels as rushed as the story line. Too many things are mentioned that leave you with more questions than answers.

On the flipside the secondary characters are actually a tad bit more interesting and have more spunk. I love Beth's tell it as it is attitude. Gareth's gallant attitude is so sweet and the contrast btwn how he treats Beth and Taylor make me wonder where things may lead.

I expected more btwn Leander and Taylor. You can feel the beginnings of something budding and the sexual tension is there but it was just ok. Lily Archer does have an easy way of writing that captures you and gently coax you to keep reading just a bit more. The first book and her writing style have intrigued me enough to check out the next book in hopes of just a bit more.

CLIFFHANGER ending. This seems to be a promising start to the series. Taylor is taken to the Fae world, Arin. Leander is the Fae king of the Winter Realm. Assassins are trying to kill Leander. When Taylor arrives, Leander senses she is his Mate. He is determined to keep her safe.

I literally finished this book in two hours. I have a really short attention span, so if a book doesn’t reel me in in the first two or three chapters, I usually DNF or take a REALLY long time to read it. But this one kept me focused and entertained the entire time I was reading it. I absolutely love 💕 Leander and how protective he is of Taylor. My only issue is that we don’t know too much about their backgrounds, which I can honestly look past - Once I sleep, I’m reading the second book ASAP!!!!

This book is not a standalone. I enjoyed it, and I want to get to know the characters, Taylor, Leander, and Garrett. But this book spends a lot of time setting the stage, world building to some extent. You’re not going to get very far with it, so just be prepared to end on a cliffhanger and wonder what the heck happened. And, be prepared to want to get the next book in the set. I do recommend it, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

I really do like this story, although I wouldn't really call it a novel as it's so short!! Just as you're teeth are embedded in the tale, the book ends!! But it is enjoyable and does keep you turning the metaphorical page. But it's just as it's really getting interesting that it's done!! Why end it at this point when more could have been told, instead the author thought this a good place to end and I really don't think it is. I actually think that if my surmise is correct, both books one and two together may have been a better way to go. However, until I've read the next book I won't know for sure, so we'll see!!

Firstly, it should be pointed out that gorgeous cover of the king warrior Leander that totally caught my eye and made me read this book synopsis and find out what it was about.

I absolutely loved this first story! I was hooked from the first chapter. The author show us this usual college girl with a nightmare for a roommate and suddenly something weird happens and we are in an amazing fantasy world.

We’re finding out what’s going on through the eyes of the two main characters, Taylor and Leander. And I really liked the stories told from both POV.

It’s good that there’re more books to follow this story after last chapter since the cliffhangers kill me.

If you like fantasy and romance, this is your books series <3 . Just be aware that it's a short book and ends up with a cliff-hanger but you can keep going to the next book.
