Trouble and Wild gave me my favorite J. Daniels book to date!
5 out of 5 stars
Trouble and Wild gave me my favorite J. Daniels book to date!
Four Letter Word is J. Daniels brand new release in her highly anticipated Dirty Deeds series. It's her first venture into traditional publishing and she hit it out of the park! What we've got: Chance encounter Woman scorned Hero with some deep wounds A whole lot of dirty Sydney Whittaker is fresh off of leaving her cheating husband when she dials a wrong number. Instead of lashing out at her best friends cheating ex, she misdials and rips Brian Savage a new one. Brian gets a kick out of Sydney's Wild side and they start a romance strictly over the phone. It's fun and playful and oh so hot. "Best two and a half weeks of my life came from a girl who was never meant to give me anything. And she was giving me everything." Brian and Sydney don't actually meet face to face until after fifty percent into the book. You don't even realize they've not really met though! J. Daniels keeps it hot and fun and it's all over the phone! "It was all I needed. It was everything I needed. It was beautiful. It was us. And he was mine." Brian and Sydney end up meeting and hitting it off immediately, but Brian has some big skeletons buried that he doesn't want dug up. S*** hits the fan and it left me sobbing. Literally sobbing! It's not long-lived though, as Brian and Sydney get their heads on straight and get the HEA they deserve. "You're hitting my soul. No one's ever hit that." I've been a fan of J. Daniels since she released her first book over two years ago. I've adored all of her writing but was so looking forward to Four Letter Word and she delivered! I went into this book completely blind and I'm so glad I did! I am completely enamored with J's Dogwood Beach world and can't wait for Hit The Spot coming in December!

Can J. Daniels write a bad book? I'm not sure that she can! Four Letter Word is utterly amazing! She delivers a romance that is fun, full of romance, and, of course, sexy as hell! It is J. Daniels, after all!

I fell in love with every single one of these characters. J. Daniels took the time to develop their personalities and establish relationships among the group of characters that are just entertaining, providing the reader with endless amounts of laughs. Truly, there isn't one character who I disliked, and that, honestly, only makes me excited for the rest of this series!

The hero, Brian Savage, is everything I absolutely love in a J. Daniels's hero, and he certainly is Trouble. With enough charm, charisma, good looks, and confidence to sweep a girl off her feet, plus the added bonus of his heart, makes him the stuff of dreams. He is kind, loyal, generous, and let's not forget that he can dirty it up with the best of them! This man's words and actions will set your heart aflame and will have your skin flushed with the heat he spouts in the throes of passion! What makes him an interesting character, though, is the demons he is facing. The effect that it has on him and the choices he makes to combat his sense of guilt weigh heavily on him and, as a result, the reader. But what readers will ultimately love about this man is his utter devotion to Syd. He is the type of man and their story is the type of romance that women hope for in their own lives!

The characterization development for Syd is what I love to see in a romance. Her growth as a person and her decision to live and be WILD makes her the perfect partner for TROUBLE. I also love her loyalty to her friends, her silly side, and her dedication to taking back her image as a woman. The confidence and independence she gains through healing from events at the beginning of the novel makes her a heroine the reader will love, I certainly did.

The secondary characters in this series are fabulous! They make me itchy for the next book in this series, like seriously, I need it now. They are hilarious and fun, and they are the type of people you want to hang out with on a Friday night. J. Daniels provides the reader with just enough about them and potential story lines for each that I seriously can't wait to see them all again in Hit the Spot.

This plot is wonderful, and it has it all. The reader will laugh, cry, swoon, get angry, and, of course, get all hot and bothered by the story J. Daniels has expertly crafted. But more than just an every-day romance, it is one of loss and healing. It showcases what real love is capable of doing: pushing a person to live without restraints, healing fractured souls, and supporting and protecting each other. Their story is beautiful and exhibits every single aspect of romance readers have come to love about the genre.

    J. Daniels delivers the romance and the dirty every time. I honestly don’t need a cover or a blurb to one-click a book written by her. Why? Because I know that I am guaranteed a well-written story that will warm my heart and make me blush, and Four Letter Word delivers on all aspects. It is an absolute must read!

Hot, Angsty, Full of Drama, Love, Hate, this book has it all!

Sydney is in a rough way and her world has just been pulled out from under her, so when her best friend Tori needs her, she packs up and goes to her, and decides to let the guy who hurt her best friend have an earful, unfortunately all of her hatred was spewed to a stranger on the phone instead of the guy it was supposed to go to. Seeing Sydney go off like this was HILARIOUS and had me laughing out loud during the whole ordeal.

Brian is also in a rough way, and the call from Sydney lit a fire inside of him. He's gone through a lot and is doing some things he regrets to make things right in his life. It takes a while for us to get the full story of why Brian does what he does, and it's sad and tragic, but I just wish he would have let people help when they offered and listed to them instead of doing what he did.

With Brian unable to get Sydney out of his head after that phone call, he texts her and things progress from there. These two fall for each other without ever seeing one another. Their phone calls escalate from sweet to down right sexy. Brian wants her, but doesn't want her to know who he was. Fate has another idea in mind, and these two meet and the sparks fly just as much in person as they do on the phone, and things quickly progress between these two.

There are many good times in this book for this couple, but there are some downright awful times for them as well. At times Brian was too mushy and sweet and I wanted more out of him, but I think he was perfect for Sydney and what she needed to move forward with her life. Granted we all want a sweet guy, but his Babe, Wild, was just a bit too much, he needed some balance, and that's my only real complaint about him. Sydney did a lot of growing in this book. I loved how she stood up to Marcus, and fought for what she wanted. I saw a lot of myself in Sydney, and that really helped me relate to her and feel her pain right along with her.

The side characters in this book are amazing, and I'm thrilled to see Tori's book is coming soon. I can't wait to see what happens with her and Jamie and if things are going to be as hot between them as I think they are going to be!

I had a love/hate relationship with this book. The story line was awesome, the writing beautiful, and the story was great, but I had a hard time connecting with the characters at times, but overall I feel as if this is a solid read that people will really enjoy. It has everything people want in a book, a great love story, a story line that keeps you hooked, and just enough angst that you don't go crazy!

5.0 out of 5 stars J.Daniels kann einfach nur gut werden

    J. Daniels. Was soll ich sagen?

5.0 out of 5 stars Dirty deeds indeed. Worth reading.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 19, 2017
Sydney’s marriage is over. Still in shock and not entirely sure what to do with her life, she goes to stay with her best friend, who is having a little man trouble of her own. Unable to do much about her own circumstances, Sydney rings Tori’s ex-boyfriend and begins to give him a piece of her mind. At least she meant to. Instead of cussing out Wes, however, she misdials and gets Brian. Brian isn’t having the best time of it either, though his troubles have nothing to do with an ex and everything to do with a few bad decisions on his part. The wrong number call, leads to a steady friendship that has both of them wishing for more; if only that were possible.

I enjoyed this novel. It was well paced, it felt organic and the characters were well rounded and likeable. More than that, I wanted to keep reading and didn’t want to put it down. I wanted to know what Brian would do next, if Sydney would find happiness, etc. I’m probably underrating it even, as it might actually deserve five stars, I just don’t see this being a book I come back to and re-read.

I was nervous for Sydney reading Four Letter Word, I knew her world was going to come crashing down again and I think that’s a sign of a good book. I was invested in the character’s happiness and wellbeing. Brian’s situation was a difficult one, but despite the fact that he’s struggling in many ways, he really does try to make Sydney happy. He cheers her up when she’s down and listens to her problems. It’s a really heart-warming story in some ways, as the character’s fall for one another without meeting. They help to heal one another. It’s definitely a story worth reading. I’m not sure if I should be backing Sydney or Brian when it comes to the ‘will they, won’t they’ relationship of their best friends, Tori and Jamie. I guess I’ll have to read book two to see if Jamie manages to win Tori over and to see if he deserves her or not.

I thought I was done with my review but apparently I’m not. I have to say that I really love Sydney’s spirit. I know we all love feisty heroines (or should as far as I’m concerned), so it shouldn’t be a surprised to like the character for her fiery nature, but I do. She’s not bitchy, but she doesn’t hold back. She’s vulnerable and caring and yet able to stand up for herself and those she loves. It’s the little things that happen throughout the story that help you to connect to the characters. We learn about each of them through their texts and phone calls, we see the story from both perspectives and it all helps to build our relationship with the characters, as they build their relationship with one another. Going back to the little things, it’s that that makes me like Brian the most; it’s the little details he remembers, how he tries to encourage Sydney throughout the story. He really cares about her, even when she’s little more than an abstract idea of a person.

(And now I find myself in the awkward position of reassessing my rating. I may have actually talked myself into giving this book a higher rating, as despite having said I’ll likely never re-read it. I’m not entirely sure that’s true. Looks like I’ll be changing the rating when I post this).

Suggested Audience: Adult readers of Romantic Fiction
Perspective: First person, as told by the two main characters.
    Profanity: Frequent/Extensive
    Sexual content: Frequent and explicit
    Violence: Moderate
