Gideon (Finding Home Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 2,107 ratings

Gideon Ramsay is so far in the closet he should be a talking faun.

A talented, mercurial, and often selfish man, Gideon has everything he should want in life. Fame, money, acting awards – he has it all. Everything but honesty. At the advice of his agent, Gideon has concealed his sexuality for years. But it’s starting to get harder to hide, and his increasingly wild behaviour is threatening to destroy his career.

Then he’s laid low by a serious illness and into his life comes Eli Jones. Eli is everything that Gideon can’t understand. He’s sunny tempered, friendly, and optimistic. Even worse, he’s unaffected by grumpiness and sarcasm, which forms ninety percent of Gideon’s body weight. And now Gideon is trapped with him without any recourse to the drugs and alcohol that have previously eased his way through awkward situations.

However, as Gideon gets to know the other man, he finds himself wildly attracted to his lazy smiles and warm, scruffy charm that seem to fill a hole inside Gideon that’s been empty for a long time. Will he give in to this incomprehensible attraction when it could mean the end of everything that he’s worked for?

From the bestselling author of the Mixed Messages series comes a story about a man who needs to realise that being true to yourself is really just a form of finding home.

This is the third book in the Finding Home series but it can be read as a standalone.

Gaw!!! 🤗😚 I absolutely have fallen in love these deep and lovely characters. A mesmerising dance as Gideon falls apart grumpily and Eli sweetly picks up the pieces of Gideon, cherishing them until he can lovingly put him back together. This age/gap, grumpy/sunshine tale is vividly realised with beautifully developed MC's that will leave you breathless. I can still feel them knocking around in my brain with their snarky repartee and intense steamy scenes...which are scorching by the way...😏 This whole series burns red hot!🔥I highly recommend falling in love with Gideon and Eli! 😘

It’s been a while since a book amused me as much as this one did. I’ve just re-read through all the passages I highlighted while reading, and they made me smile all over again.

Gideon is so snarky, but all the characters are well-written. This is the third book in Lily Morton’s Finding Home series, but I read it first, and it can definitely be read as a standalone, but it made me want to read all the others too. This one is still my favourite though.

Gideon is an actor who has everything he could possibly want. At least, that’s how it looks from the outside. But his agent convinced him early that the world wouldn’t accept him as gay, and now that he’s hidden that truth for so long, his agent assures him they’d never forgive him for lying to them for so long. Yet, hiding that truth means Gideon is deeply unhappy. He has to hit rock bottom before his brother hires Eli to nurse him back to health. Time away from the insanity of the acting world, and his new feelings for Eli, mean that Gideon starts to see things differently. But will it mean giving up everything he’s worked so hard for? And would it be worth it even if it did?

Seriously, by 26% through the book I’d already snort-laughed on the train and highlighted six passages that had made me laugh. But there’s also some moments that just make you awww….

This book is definitely worth the read.

When I first met up with Gideon in the second book of the series he was about the most annoying, least sympathetic, and disgusting character one could expect.

That was especially true because of the MCs in that book--his brother Milo and his best friend and occasional bedmate Niall (who was by the time Gideon showed up had become Milo's lover). Gideon was also not quite up to the standards of his and Kieran's other best friend Silas to say nothing of Silas' new husband, Oz, both of whom we got to know and love in the first book.

So, I bought this one with hesitation.

    Wow! What a pleasant surprise!

The incident which sets this book in motion is basically as unsettling, if not as disgusting, as the one which set the previous book into orbit. I won't describe it other than to say it's absolutely perfect for understanding who Gideon Ramsay is and how he has come to the point that he has a close brush with death at age 39 without even realizing what happened. (The only thing I found puzzling about the set-up is that it is not quite clear that the place in which the incident happens is probably in Italy--I could not find reference but it is a bit important if you think it happens in England).

That caveat out of the way Gideon wakes up in hospital surrounded by Milo and Niall, and eventually his extremely annoying and eminently evil manager Frankie who has somehow performed a miracle without the slightest clue by hiring a private nurse to coddle and repair Gideon on a cruise back to England.

The nurse turns out to be a stunning Welshman named Eli (why Frankie chose him is hilarious, read the book) who immediately takes control of Gideon's care and in no uncertain terms informs Frankie that he is not to communicate with Gideon at all during the cruise unless he wants to take on Eli.

    Nice touch.

In any case, by the time the cruise makes its way to Nice in France, things between Gideon and Eli have gone from chilly to chill, in the best modern interpretation of the term. These two are seriously well met--both are exceptionally handsome, really built (even though Gideon has lost a good deal of weight), and quite snarky, especially to each other. That Eli is openly gay and (thanks to Frankie) Gideon is firmly closeted, adds a huge twist and suspense to the whole scenario that turns out to be the key to holding the narrative together.

Though Eli is only 27 years old, he has an outlook, and world experience, that rivals international movie star and bad boy Gideon's. But they get to know, and like, each other quite famously so by the time they approach England they have the potential for a relationship--which scares the hell out of both of them because being patient and nurse on the cruise precluded anything of the sort--though they came close one night. Because of that complication, which ends when they land in England, how the first half of the book ends will almost break your heart, because it certainly came close to messing with Gideon's and Eli's.

And then we have an absolutely sensational second half which you will have to read yourself because it defies summary. In addition, it incudes a wonderful Epilogue that brings this series to a lovely ending.

    Well done!

This was simply a wonderful book. Take one total loser. Add one man that's the total opposite. Then enjoy the ride as they get to their HEA.

Most stories try mix the elements of true life, like we all live, and marry the fantasy elements to create the story. To me, what launches this story to the top of the heap is that those elements are blended so well, that fantasy is forgotten and blends into believable. There is great character development, unbelievably funny, funny, laugh out loud lines, a bit of heartache, a bit of worry, with the wonderful supporting characters that we know and love, of course the seriously steamy passionate stuff, and you have what Ms Morton always delivers.
    A really great read.

One bonus for me was the great epilogue. It frustrates me when we invest so much in a great story, only to have it wrapped up in a few, unsatisfying paragraphs. I think that is usually the most disappointing thing to me, as a reader.

This however was in my top five of epilogues. We were not gipped at all, and it surpised me how well it truly made this journey complete. Sadly, I am worried that this series may be complete as well, but it is a wonderful ride. Maybe we'll be treated to more, either way, I'll be reading these again.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will always wonder if bad boy Gideon was redeemed if you don't buy it

I like many other readers found Gideon to be bloody horrid in 'Milo's book - but I know and love Lily Morton as an author and knew that there was redemption in Gideon's future.

It only took pneumonia and a nurse called Eli. Do not be frightened of Lily taking you down a dark path because it did not happen. It was just lovely to see Gideon as his true self and his mean, snivelling manager got his just desserts.

What I loved best was the Epilogue - like all the books in this series - it tells me that love wins!

I wanted to write a cute and quirky review regarding the excellence of this book however I have the flu and my wit has escaped me. However, I CAN 100% recommend this book to all, seasoned Lily lovers and newcomers. Lily has a way of writing brilliant, rich and engaging characters that practically step of the page and act out the story in front of you. I can practically see the roses that Gideon leaves for Eli on my bedside table. Like each of Lily’s previous books, there is just the right amount of snark and sweet combined to keep you snickering and smiling. Wonderful book, now stop reading this and go read Gideon !

5.0 out of 5 stars Another brilliant snarkfest from Lily Morton
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 13, 2019
The Finding Home series has been a complete joy from start to finish and Gideon's story is the snarkiest snarkfest of them all. Although each book can be read as a standalone, they are best read in order to make the most of the dynamics between the three couples. We first meet Gideon in Milo's book and he's an absolute arse! Rude, arrogant and hellbent on spoiling his brother's fledgling romance. So it was intriguing to see how a serious illness and the attention of a bantering Welshman whilst on a OAP cruise stripped him back to the core. Behind the mask of the talented, over-sexed and in the closet actor was a lonely man who had been ignored by his family and manipulated by his agent for far too long. Eli is such a beautiful character - upbeat, kind and with just the right amount of bossy to be the perfect match for Gideon. As ever with Lily Morton, we have a well observed back drop for the story, British slang and cultural references (yay for Vic Reeves) and some red hot love scenes. All in all, brilliant one-liners, believable characters and an unputdownable read. Suffering from a book hangover in the worst possible way!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Everyone has a Gideon inside them
Reviewed in India on January 12, 2021
I didn't immediately want to read Gideon after Milo because I didn't know whether I would like him. And now... I regret waiting so long because let me tell you, Gideon's story is relatable and wholesome. And absolutely perfect and I really did not think, anyone could top the tenderness and sweetness of "Milo" but Gideon the closeted romantic was all hearts and flowers and snark! So much, I think we all have a little bit of Gideon inside us and I loved him and Eli. Gideon was an amazingly funny, sweet and a very incredible end to an amazing series. I will miss them all so much.
And for Lily Morton, who writes such detailed and real characters, all so sexy and heart warming and all the posh places she takes us... All her stories have this special magic and I always feel like I'm in a warm bubble of my own and I hate when reality beckons. But every new book and new men with funny bones and enchanting places bring me back. I love Lily Morton books!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best of this series yet
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 15, 2019
Lily Morton has always been a one-click author for me, and never have I been more thankful for that than with Gideon. This series has been exciting, thrilling and a lot of the times exhausting. Until Gideon.
He is a guy heading for total destruction until a serious illness takes him out of, and away from his hedonistic lifestyle.
Hired by the hideous Frankie, who expects a capable, forthright nurse. But more so, he expects a female nurse, Ellie Jones. What he gets is a wonderful sassy mouthed Welsh nurse, and more surprisingly, male.
We watch as Eli and Gideon spar off each other for the weeks of the ill-fated OAP cruise Milo booked him on, it's full of the clever writing and fabulous snarky humour we expect from Ms. Morton.
What happens when the cruise ends and Eli is no longer his nurse? We have to wait four months to find out and we are not disappointed.
This is a love story from start to finish, with excellent references to some wonderfully eccentric British icons, that will have you laughing, smiling and remembering them.
Read the others, love Oz and Milo but devour Gideon, he is the best of the bunch.
