Greco: A Novel Kindle Edition
In this unforgettable novel from USA Today bestselling author C. G. Cooper, a college football star struggles to pull himself free from his father’s tangled past.
It’s 1989, and college freshman Michael Greco is ready to leave his dreary small town—and the grief of his father’s death—behind. He has everything he needs for a great year: a starting spot on the football team, new friends, and a promising flirtation with a beautiful grad student.
But just as Greco settles in to campus life, his uncle shows up demanding that he take care of his father’s unfinished business with a powerful Chicago gangster. As Greco is drawn further into this cutthroat world, he struggles to shield his troubled younger brother and spiraling mother from the truth. Can he figure out who he is, and what sort of man he wants to be, before the past extinguishes any hope of a different future?
Unflinchingly honest, C. G. Cooper’s Greco is a complex exploration of identity, alienation, and the weight of atoning for inherited sins.

WHY C. G. COOPER MATTERS
Fiction has the power to change lives.
Pay a visit to Cooper Country and you’ll understand why. With his unique voice and flair for creating characters you’d love to hang out with, C. G. Cooper imparts every one of his novels with messages that perfectly illuminate what Faulkner called, “the human heart in conflict with itself.” In them, characters confront hard truths about life, the necessity of war, the military industrial complex, and why and how good men and women die.
But there are messages within the messages.
There is the power of the individual to triumph over evil against overwhelming odds; the struggle of good people against their inner demons; there is brotherhood, family, the discovery of allies in unexpected places, struggles with faith; there is community; there is authenticity; Cooper’s heart is on every page, beating hard and fast through action and moments of tenderness alike.
Expect high-octane action, slow-burn thrills, and gut-wrenching drama. Expect the ultimate conflict of the human heart.
This is Cooper Country. Lives will change.
THE LOWDOWN
Drawing on his days as an infantry officer in the United States Marine Corps—a stint that came on the heels of a degree in foreign affairs from UVA—Cooper sifted his experience through his vivid imagination and created Corps Justice, the first novel in the beloved Corps Justice series. Thus, a band of characters was born that would go on to enthrall readers throughout 17 novels and counting. With more than 2 million book downloads and multiple appearances in the Amazon Top 100, C. G. Cooper remains one of the most successful USA TODAY and Amazon best-selling authors.
In 2020, he won the prestigious James Webb Award presented by the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation for his novel Chain of Command.
In addition to bouncing around the country in search of the perfect vacation (turns out, it is anywhere with his family), Cooper has called Nashville home ever since his final Marine duty station. When not enjoying the laid-back lifestyle of Music City, he’s doing his best to add more novels to the growing list at cg-cooper.com.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2025Another well written book by C. G. Cooper, as I have come to expect from him.
Very engaging story that I did not want to put down until I finished it.
Good, believable characters that have their flaws as they are human.
I highly recommend it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2025I believe that Greco: A Novel by C. G. Cooper is his best book so far. It is a well written book reminiscent of John Grisham. I loved the Greco character. Like other books written by C. G. Cooper, I want more books like this. Normally, I would say I want to see more books with this character; but, Greco's story is complete. Thank you Mr. Cooper for this wonderful story!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 25, 2024Greco by CG Cooper was a decent read! If you’re into action-packed stories with a tough, no-nonsense protagonist, this book delivers on that. Greco himself is such a badass, and the pacing of the story keeps you hooked. I liked how the story didn’t waste time and jumped straight into the story.
That being said, in some parts, I felt like I’d read this story before. The plot twists weren’t super surprising, and some of the characters felt a little one-dimensional. I figured out wh was going to betray who pretty quickly.
Overall, it’s a solid read if you’re into fast-paced action thrillers. It’s not groundbreaking, but it’s entertaining enough for a weekend binge. It was a good palette cleanser book. 3.5 stars! 🌟
- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2025Very touching, heartwarming & inspiring story. Not at all what I expected. Tho, it was more than I ever could’ve hoped for.
G C Cooper has written an exceptional, timeless novel of faith, friendship, family, showing how life can be filled with ups & downs. Yet still work out in the end. You get out of it what you put into it. Even if you need help from those who love you on occasion.
This is destined to be one of those books I’ll read each year. Just to be reminded of what life’s about. How to surmount life’s hurdles. And appreciate that which you have. All it takes is honor, honesty, faith, a belief in yourself, choosing to see the best in people. And never forget all you’ve been given to get where you are. No one travels alone. We all need help along the way. And our friends, family and associates are where we get that help.
God bless you G C Cooper. Already a fan of yours because of your Corps Justice series, you’ve written a masterpiece surpassing anything I’ve read in ages. It brought me to tears. And this old grunt doesn’t ever do that.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 3, 2025Very inspiring story that tells the trials and tribulations of life and the lessons learned give you strength. This was so different from other stories by this author, but I’m so glad that I read it. Please give it a try.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 8, 2025This is a unique book of a working class family - struggles they faced with a gambling father, alcoholic mother, and two sons. This novel is colorful about one son struggles to change his life's fate. The struggles he faces are raw, making you recall the first of college.
Great job, Carlos!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 16, 2024Greco is a good short story and a quick read. This story hits home on many levels. Big brother (Greco) leaves for college to carve out his place in life but feels guilty for leaving his little brother behind. His family is not known as the pillars of the community. When his little brother gets in trouble Greco is forced to face his past head on. Greco gets in over his head and needs help. He is a just kid himself. He finds out that his team is more than just football players but has become the family he always wanted and more importantly didn't know that he needed.
Treat yourself to a nice read during the holidays.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2025It appears this book is intended for young adolescent readers. It is simply written without depth of character development or a realistic story line. I didn’t enjoy it but I think a junior high aged student might.
I will not be reading anymore CG Cooper novels. It felt immature and poorly written to be honest. As a retired educator I can say I read better stories from high school students. It’s certainly not literature for a serious reader.
