Come Hell or High Water (Hellcat Series Book 5) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 468 ratings

IS IT WRONG TO FEAR SHADOWS WHEN THOSE SHADOWS HAVE THE POWER TO DESTROY YOU?

The City’s supernatural community is still in mourning, but there’s no time to spend licking their wounds. The face of the City has changed forever and now her citizens must keep up or risk succumbing to the darkness.

As the Magi withdraw to protect themselves and their vulnerable power source, it falls to the Werewolves to step into the void left by a crippled SMV. The Vampires are more than willing to help, but things are moving in the shadows; bad things that threaten to destroy everything Julius has worked for. Princep scheming seems suspicious, but in truth the greater danger lurks much closer to home.

When one of Gabi’s Werewolf friends is kidnapped by tech-savvy vigilantes it seems like an open and shut case of humans fearing what they do not understand. But as Julius travels from the City to answer the Princeps’ summons, leaving Gabi in the relative safety of the Clan, it soon becomes clear that they’ve misjudged the real enemy.

Left confused and floundering, it’s the Princep Benedict who finally provides the information they desperately seek. But his answers do not come without a price.

Defending their beloved City may seem overwhelming, but, come Hell or high water, Hellcat and Co will do whatever it takes.

Batten down the hatches, a tempest is imminent.

Sharon has been calling herself a writer since she was eight years old. She wrote her first auto-biography at age ten. As a teenager, she was teased about being a witch, because she wore lots of black and walked around with her black, Oriental cat on a lead. She never disagreed too loudly, after all, that may have drawn attention to the herd of unicorns that lived in her back garden.

Born and raised in South Africa, she has called New Zealand home since 2008. Her life consists largely of looking after her husband, two kids, three cats, a dog, a pony and a horse, but her working day is spent writing, and her occasional hours off usually include books, horses or a glass of good red wine.

Though she has had many jobs over the years, her favourite is, without doubt, being paid to write about the characters who take up residence in her head. After an early foray into writing for children, Sharon discovered Urban Fantasy; the genre that felt as though it had been created with her in mind. She loves nothing more than to create strong-willed, female lead characters, who challenge those around them almost as much as they challenge themselves.

Sharon also loves animals of all shapes and sizes. She has owned all the usual suspects one would keep as a pet, and a few more exotic ones thrown in for good measure. She spent her teens working at a tourist farm and animal park, and as a result has handled everything from porcupines and warthogs, to ferrets and hedgehogs. She has been surrogate mom to many orphans including; kittens, lambs and an eagle owl. No matter how hard she tries, animals always seem to steal the limelight in her novels.

We waited a year for the next book in this series and it was definitely worth it! A lot happens in this one and Sharon does a great job keeping the stories straight and tying it all up in the end. Julius and Gabrielle are called back to the princeps to answer for a death that happened earlier and they suspect Gabrielle had a hand in it. Julius won't risk her so they devise a plan to fool them all. Meanwhile, Gabrielle has to deal with missing werewolves and a crazy faction trying to expose them. The relationship between Gabrielle and Julius is still going strong, even when they hit a snag or two. I'd really like to see Gabi fully commit to Julius and them move forward. I look forward to the next one!

I have to say in all honesty that this is one of or the best series that I've ever read. Each succeeding book gets better and better and that is hard for any author to do. The way that the story and characters are written by the author is magic unto itself. {Pun intended;)} I would say that it would simply be impossible for anyone, who loves this type of genre, to not fall in love with each of the characters in their own way. It's stupendous writing and editing and I wish this series and these characters would never end. That's how much I love and recommend this series.

The read is open to a lot of emotion in this novel. I found myself crying over a characters death and laughing with other characters humorous response. This series has highs and lows you can like the first but the second might not hold you to the pages. But, if you hang in Gabi and Julius will keep you entertained. The peek into the future seem their is more to come for Hellcat to deal with and wise it to keep the bantering humor between the vamp that was in three and forth novel. Bring Mac's Scottish humor back into the novels.

Was truly looking forward to this edition of the Hellcat series. While the story took many twists and turns, the author gave the reader more points of view of the many starring and supporting characters - this gave the story even more life, very much welcomed. Many unanswered questions, all with potentially intriguing story lines remain. As always have already started reading vol six.

It was good to get re-aquainted with Gabi, Julius, Razor, Kyle and the rest of the cast of characters who have become friends. I always wonder, when I start a new book in a series, will I like it? Will it be as good as the ones that have gone before? Will there be new alignments, will certain characters show more of themselves? Happily the answer to my questions have been a resounding yes. If you are a new reader of Ms Hannaford's, take my advice, go back and start on book one and enjoy the journey.

I loved this book. After the breakneck speed of events of To hell and back, come Hell Or High Water moves at a slightly calmer pace, but with no less action. Old friends feature as well as some new. Mac is becoming a firm favourite. A cracking instalment which leaves me really rather desperate for the next one to get my questions answered and to see someone give Caspian what he deserves. Well done Mrs Hannaford. You never disappoint.
