Publisher Description
#1 Bestseller in Women’s Crime Fiction.
#1 Bestseller in Organised Crime.
A little deer walks into the wolf’s den.
I want answers.
I know nothing of love, family, or stability, having been raised in the foster system and spat out at eighteen, pregnant, and with no memory of how that came to be.
I try to find my estranged father, a man rumoured to be in the Mafia, hopeful he will use his influence to discover what really happened the night someone took my innocence.
But I don’t find my father. I walk straight into the den of his associate, the Don of the Cosa Nostra.
Clay Butcher.
He is a cold, calculated killer. An emotional island in a perfectly tailored suit.
He orders me to stay in his mansion and wait for my father to return. But living with Clay Butcher stirs feelings deep inside of me. Starved of attention all my life, I find his possessive gaze intoxicating. His rules ground me, his discipline holds me accountable, and his praise sets my skin ablaze.
But he is a liar.
What I don’t know is that he plots to use me. I am not just the daughter of his colleague, but a girl with a powerful heir in her belly.
The heir to part of Clay Butcher's legacy.

Author notes: His Pretty Little Burden is part of The Kids of The District series but can be enjoyed without the previous books, although it follows a greater narrative and is the first book in a duet. It features a powerful Mafia Don and his endearing tortured heroine. His Pretty Little Burden has an age gap dynamic that some people may find uncomfortable. It is an epic romance story, with spice, and dark themes.

Brilliant Audio!
I’m just in awe over this audiobook! His Pretty Little Burden is a sexy intoxicating, brilliantly written, world win of an audiobook. That just wrecked me! I just need the next audiobook like Yesterday! Plus, Shane East’s narration as Clay Butcher was what audio dreams are made of and Sofia Lette was brilliant it with her narration as Fawn!!
Clay and his little deer. Great story!
Mob boss Clay Butcher is feared by many. His brothers work with him, and his wife is his confidante. Clay’s known as the Mayor of the District, and he controls all that he surveys. When a little slip of a girl shows up on Clay’s doorstep looking for her father, he’s taken with her. He can’t quite explain what draws him to her, and can’t be bothered with her. Her father is someone important, which makes Dawn important to Clay. Fawn may not like the reason her father is so important to Clay.
As Clay gets to know Fawn, he’s affected by her backstory. He grows protective of her, and that eagle eye slowly begins to bring a lot of things into focus. They begin to spend more time together, and see each other in a whole new light. But neither of them believe love is in the cards for them.
This was my first story by Nicci Harris, and I’m hooked! A great mafia story with loads of violence. And the heat between Clay and Fawn was combustible! Some BDSM made for a great tale. The contrast in Clay and Fawn’s upbringing—he in violence, and her having a rough childhood. They were like magnets to one another. Though she’s been through a lot, Fawn is a pretty tough young lady. This was a beautiful rose of a love story amongst the thorns of reality.
Shane East and Sofia Lette blew me away with their narration. My feelings were all over the place, but there were a couple chapters that broke me wide open. I’m aware of Shane’s brilliance, but Sofia is new to me. She was so great, and I can’t wait to check out her audio library. Thank you Nicci and East House Productions for a wonderful story.
