Higgs & Soap: Galaxy Delivery Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 10 ratings

"Hello! Need a 'sensitive' item delivered 'discreetly' anywhere in the colonised galaxies? Then 'Higgs & Soap: Galaxy Delivery' are waiting for your encrypted call. We operate in the strictest confidence for your peace of mind*!" (*yes we do illegal stuff) It was supposed to be a simple, straightforward job: transport a data card from one solar system to another and get paid. But it turns out that the data on the card makes it the most valuable item in the galaxy. With highly trained killers and thieves after it, the only people standing in their way are Higgs and Soap, and they really, really don't want to die. Join Higgs (independent entrepreneur) and Soap (ace pilot and engineer) as they tear across the galaxy pursued by cyborgs and genetically modified thugs. All they want is to get paid! And to not die. They're quite insistent about that part. "Higgs & Soap – we take anything, anywhere!"

A rather nice comedy about the problems with running your own company in the galaxy as a delivery boy. Very entertaining and a fast read. Highly recommend to get this book if you like some light reading to get in a good mood.

I received my copy from Story Cartel to give this review.

I haven't laughed so much since Red Dwarf (the book, not the TV series). Tony Cooper has managed to successfully mix some creative science fiction ideas with a slightly warped, sometimes suggestive, but definitely riotous sense of humour. This is an hilarious romp through the galaxy following the adventures of a couple of misfits as they try to deliver what seems to be an innocuous package. Along the way they encounter a multitude of characters that try to disrupt their mission, from an argumentative car (with context sensitive advertising) to a sexually frustrated female customs official. The pace is fast and, like all good comedy, if you aren't paying attention you might miss some of the jokes. The fast pace also prevents major character development; there is nothing deep in this story apart from the volcanic tubes on Scylla, but you don't read this book for depth; you read it because you want to have a good laugh. I give this book 5 stars for originality, creativity, humour and story line. I shall be looking out for more from TC and I'm hoping that a Higgs & Soap series will be in the mix.

This is a highly entertaining book. And I'm not into comedy very much. This book is about as far from my normal reading material as you can get. And still - I loved it!

The humor is just so completely ridiculous. The main protagonist is such an absolute buffoon. Yet.. somehow... I cared about "what would happen next." I wanted the "good guys" to succeed. I had to keep reading.

You have to read this book just for the scene where someone attempts to wipe his brain.

I would definitely like to read more if this were to become a series.

Wonderfully bonkers and super-fast space adventure. its as cheesy as a cheese mine awash with cheese but that doesn't detract from the brilliant story-telling and non-stop action.
