4.4 out of 5 stars 3,298 ratings

In the heart of the Andes, an archaeological dream is threatened by a sinister plot.

When former black ops field agent Rex Dalton and his trusty K9 companion, Digger, form an unexpected friendship with a retired American couple, they are invited to join an expedition to a secluded village nestled high in the Andes Mountains. The couple's intention to invest in the archaeological site there appears to be a promising venture, but all is not what it seems.

Dalton’s instincts quickly uncover a sinister con targeting his new friends, and the masterminds behind this elaborate scheme prove they will go to any lengths to protect their interests.

He and Digger are caught in the crosshairs of a dangerous game. With the stakes rising, Rex must use his cunning to outmaneuver his adversaries and bring justice to the deserving before it’s too late.

The Inca Con is the pulse-pounding fourth instalment in JC Ryan’s electrifying Rex Dalton K9 Thrillers series.

What readers are saying about the Rex Dalton Series:

Sheila LS - Top Contributor. Can't Read This Series Fast Enough!! I had no idea these books were so good when I first started or I would not have already downloaded other Kindle Unlimited books... I haven't read any series as exciting as Ty Patterson's Warrior series until now.

You really need to start reading this series from the beginning because what happened to Rex in this first book is what made him the way he is. He is a very determined person and does not stop at anything to take down the bad guys--especially if they are terrorist or if it is a group that is funding terrorist. Even though this is his main mindset, he still wants to protect the innocent that inadvertently get in the way...

Texas - This author belongs on the same shelf as Ludlum and Follette and those other guys! My first read by this author and I couldn't put the book down! Mesmerized by the writing style, the vivid descriptions and the storylines, I read without stopping. Fast paced, action packed and interesting on several facets.

Margaret Bentley - I love reading about Rex Dalton's exploits, but my favorite character has to be Digger, his military-trained super-intelligent dog.

Greg D - Rex Dalton was the deadliest agent the government had at their disposal- a one-man unstoppable force in the war on terrorism in the Middle East. With his famous ability to pick up new languages with ease, he figures he can blend into almost any culture and root out evil. What could go wrong? Well, it turns out, plenty.

E. I. HOOD - I was not a fan of the first Rex Dalton book but plunged ahead with the second hoping JC Ryan would not disappoint. I loved it. Now here I am after reading the third book in this series. I had a hard time putting it down and found myself wondering about it when I was not reading.

40 year pioneer - Each book in this series gets even better. This has a fascinating, even though hard to fathom, plot, worked out in intricate detail. Rex Dalton is a mirror of all of us - overcoming seemingly overwhelming odds to achieve great things.

Kindle Customer - From a master storyteller comes another thrilling ride by Rex Dalton. From the sands of Afghanistan to the culture of India the story moves at a breathless pace. Thoroughly enjoyable and highly recommended.

Kindle Customer - Rex Dalton rocks! Another great read from JC Ryan. I've read all of his books and am never disappointed! All I can say is....MORE!

I pretty much saw where the story was headed, but didn't make it less fun to read. Editing could have used a closer eye; silly mistakes didn't get caught. I think I will read another tale of Rex and Digger in the future. I recommend this novel to anyone who likes a like books with great but not tedious detail. Mr Ryan has a solid series going on.

It seems as though Rex is setting a trend of leaving broken-hearted women in his wake along with the bad guys that keep getting in his way. As Rex and Digger continue with their new adventurous lifestyle, trouble keeps finding them no matter where they go. It's an intriguing and exciting experience following them around the world.
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and author.

I liked the story. I liked the dog, Digger, and his involvement throughout the story. The characters were good and it was easy to get involved in the book. I would normally give this four stars knocking off a star for being a little too predictable. However, I dropped one more star for how the author treated the kids. Trying not to spoil it, the children were seriously sick. It was noted the kids desperately needed a doctor. The story then proceeded with people arriving from the city with really good fake artifacts, discussed a plan and visited the site before leaving. Then the story says it takes 3 weeks to prep the site. When this was done the main character makes a call to the doctor who takes nearly a week to arrive. So the kids who turn out to have radiation poison waited 4-5 weeks before a doctor arrived. Why wasn’t the doctor called sooner? Why didn’t the people who came with the artifacts also bring a doctor? It didn’t make sense to me. Finally, the doctor seemed unusually nasty to the main character. It seemed odd.

Red is a fun character to watch grow and deal with his life. Digger is king however. Would love to see a series based on these books, similiar to Reacher.

Rex and Digger find themselves in Peru this time. Rex has come up with a cover story of a blog with history, culture and peoples of all the places he is visiting and he is seriously considering doing it too. They come across an young man, Junior Roper who is telling his uncle and another retired couple, the Markses about how he was swindled out of thirty thousand dollars. Rex makes a polite acquaintance of all and goes on his way. Markses are traveling widely looking for authentic archeological sites with genuine artefacts to invest in.

Rex and Digger decide to go on their own adventure taking along a guide as mandated by the Peruvian government. When his guide gets injured, Rex and Digger help him and are trying to get him to a place where he could be further helped when they run into the guide who is escorting the Markses and Junior to a village high up in the Andean region that is close to a site full of genuine artefacts as yet unknown to the outside world. The Markses' guide is so pleased that Rex went back to help his colleague-guide that he invites Rex and Digger to join his party going to the village. The Markses who were informed by Junior about a promising site alleged to contain true artifacts invite Rex and Digger.

When they get to the village, Junior vanishes saying his uncle is gravely ill and needs him. He introduces them to the village leader Alexandro saying the latter would take them to the site. In the meantime, Rex gets information from the villagers about the true conditions prevailing in the village by conversing with them in Chequan. He is horrified by the true state of affairs and decides to set right all the wrongs that are being planned including the scam that is being perpetrated on the Markses. The information he unearths is appalling!

How Rex takes the help of the villagers themselves, Luciana to get help from the government, his friend in India Rehka, the IT whiz and does what he does best, getting justice to all concerned in addition to arranging for a doctor to attend to the needy villagers forms the rest of the gripping and riveting story! It needs to be read to enjoy it in all its flavors.

The description of the natural beauty of the Peruvian wilderness leaves the readers open mouthed and trying their best to visualize all the beauty and relishing the thought and picture of all that beauty so wondrously depicted through words!

Thank you for another thoroughly exhilarating adventure, Mr. Ryan.

The Inca Con is the fifth book in the "A Rex Dalton Thriller" series and is a great addition to the series.

I really enjoyed this book. Rex and Digger are happily exploring historical Peru when they uncover a con at an archaeological site. This book is well written and intriguing. I love the relationship between Rex and Digger. There is a mysterious illness of sick children, lost treasure, action, tension, and some romance. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

We find Rex in Peru enjoying his time walking with Digger and learning about the people there. Then, as usual, trouble quietly finds him. He gets caught up in an artefacts scam that has him and Digger helping out at an old village in the hills.
The hint of humour and romance amongst the operation to get the scammer makes this another enjoyable read.
