About the author

Pamela Cowan is a Pacific Northwest author most recognized for her psychological thrillers. Her books are known for their dark and gritty themes, exploring the uglier side of human nature, but often with a twist of humor. Her short stories have been featured in various magazines, and anthologies, and have been broadcast on public radio.
With a background in Communications and Organizational Psychology, Pamela spent her career in social services, honing her understanding of human behavior, which she incorporates into her books.
An army brat, she was born in Germany and moved with her family 17 times before her father retired to Oregon, where she has steadfastly remained. She has two grown children, a remarkably patient and supportive husband, and a dog whose life-long goal is to end the tyranny of UPS, USPS and FedEx drivers.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2012Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWhat if you found yourself locked into a bomb shelter in the pitch blackness with no way of escape at the age of six? Crazy ideas spill through your mind and threaten to eat at every ounce of your sanity. Nineteen years later, Austin Ward while trying to maintain a sense of normalcy fought against her fearful mind as it threatened to bury her alive in the darkness. Each time the lights go out, you think you are another step closer to the truth only to have P.J. Cowan yank you down another dark alley. SOMETHING IN THE DARK is an excellent psychological thriller that keeps the reader guessing until the very end. I do not want to say more as the true thrill of the story is Ms. Cowan keeping the reader in the dark. Psychological thrill seekers should find this novel one big roller-coaster of unexpected twists, turns, and loops.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 6, 2013Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis was truly a page turner. I read this in a matter of hours. The ending was such a great surprise and although I had made a decision at the beginning, I was not surprised that I was right, but not entirely! Wonderful, nail-biting moments. Hope I can find another as good.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2013Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is an excellent psycho-thriller. The whole time I was trying to figure out "who done it" and just when I'd make up my mind, the author would throw a wrench at me. There's enough twists and turns to keep you guessing, but not too many to lose your interest.
This is an author that will stay in my radar for a long time. Recommended read.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2013Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI met the author at a local festival and promised her I would write a review. Something in the Dark does keep you guessing to "who done it". Well written, P.J. A good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2015Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI loved this book. If you like murder mysteries as much as I do you should grab a copy, had me guessing until the very end. Very well written, hope to see more from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2013I was intrigued by this novel from the very start. Just read it. The cover leads me to believe that there will be other stories set in this fictitious county. I look forward to reading them.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2012I'm not sure where all these four and five star reviews came from - did we read the same book? A mystery needs to start fast, grab the reader by the throat and never let go. I read the first three chapters and basically, nothing happened. Way, way, WAY too much detail! I really do not care how she divided up the town for work nor how lawn equipment functions. The beginning was....boring! You know what Alfred Hitchcock said about drama - it's like real life with all the boring parts left out. P.J. please if you decide to write another mystery - leave all the details OUT! P.J. can use her initials all she wants but I knew immediately this book was written by a woman.

4.0 out of 5 stars Something in the Dark
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseThis is a good one, keeps you engrossed all the time! Even got me annoyed when I had to put it down to eat the lovely dinner my wife had cooked.

2.0 out of 5 stars Way too Descriptive ....
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseCould have been a good read but it dragged on and on. Far too much descriptive writing and Austin needed a slap with all the stupid decisions she made towards the end . I found this novel quite poor , only 2 stars from me :(
