Jack Rose: Jack Daniels, Book 21 Audible Audiobook – Unabridged

4.4 out of 5 stars 360 ratings

Welcome to SerialKillerCon! The convention where true crime fans get to dress up like their favorite criminals, attend forensics seminars, and meet law enforcement legends.

Former cop Harry McGlade loves being a guest of honor.

Former cop Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels...not so much.

Jack hates being the center of attention. True crime groupies freak her out. And some of her police officer peers have serious envy issues.

But the surreal event goes from irritating to frightening when a storm traps everyone inside the conference hotel.

Then, fans start getting gruesomely murdered, mimicking Jack's past serial killer cases.

Can two old ex-cops use their decades of experience to end the horror? Or are Jack and Harry about to finally face a psychopath they can't stop?

If you are a more sensitive (or adventurous) listener, this handy scale rates specific categories from one (lowest) to 10 (highest) to give you some idea if this is your kind of book.

Never a letdown. Gross, but with so much humor, you laugh before you'd puke! Total shock on the bad guy. AND JA managed to get everyone into the book! Loved it.

I like an author that knows how to make fun of himself. This book is standard fare for Konrath. Gore and sleazy puns and dry humor, but I guess I don’t mind because I like the characters so much. But I will admit, having Jack be so indestructible at her age is a bit of a stretch even for fiction. And honestly, who in their right mind would invite her anywhere, or travel with her? You’re asking for death. But boy would it be fun to hang with her and Phin and Harry until then.

Konrath putting himself in the book as one of the murder victims was just classic lol 🤣. He never fails to entertain me. Took me a while to figure out who the killer was in this book but it was one of my favorite Jack Daniels. I felt like Jack was able to appreciate Harry McGlade more in this book. That was nice to see them connect in a deeper way than just Harry's dirty jokes and puns. I love this author and am so thankful for his talent
These books can be read out of order but Konrath is such a talented author that I promise you're gonna want to read all the series.

Some parts had me worried some of my favorite (harry) characters would be missed but action was had by all and as expected. Had me cringing and laughing all on a single page.

Even if you’re pretty sure of the twist from early on, this is still a fantastic read. It’s a bit shorter than most of the JD novels, but it was fun to read. It brought back so many references and memories from older books and made plenty of new ones.

What the heck did I just read? Humor and death just don't go together but you and Harry make it work...I've only laughed out loud two times in my whole life while reading and turns out you wrote both books and Harry was involved. You Sir Joe are an amazing author.

I enjoyed Konrath when he first started writing but his characters have devolved into caricatures. The silliness is now being overdone and the plot line weakly developed. I never read him for the literary value (obviously) but rather just to be entertaining. Now his books aren't even that, sadly.

Mr. Konrath & Jack Daniels (and her crew) never disappoint. Who else could disperse of actual serial killers at a serial killer convention?! I was glued to the pages as usual and have already pre-purchased the next book in the series! My only criticism is that it's so long to wait!!

You would think after twenty one books in a series that the storylines would be getting stale. You'd be wrong. Konrath has managed to breathe new life (and death) into this gore fest. A little less comedy nonsense filler and a little more serial killer goodness, with delightful trigger warnings throughout that at times were gratefully appreciated. I thought I was over these characters but I'm 'dying' for the next instalment.

The first two-third of the book was a hard read. Some of the characters were too dumb down to be enjoying. Even Jack Daniels was dumb down and made to look like a slob. It felt that the book was written in a rush to get something out and sadly it disappointed. The last third of the book was in the usual Konrath's style and that part was enjoyable so I gave it a 3-star rating. I would have preferred to wait to get a better book.
