The Legend of Gasparilla and His Treasure: A gripping, heart-pounding action adventure (Matthew Connor Adventure Series Book 3) Kindle Edition
For centuries, the existence of Spanish pirate José Gaspar has been relegated to legend, but archaeologist and adventurer Matthew Connor and his two best friends may have just found reason to believe the buccaneer truly existed. They’re in Washington, DC, to mark the opening of an exhibit at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History when a mysterious stranger turns up claiming he may hold the key to the mythical pirate’s treasure and invites them to join in his quest to find it.
Rumored to have sailed and plundered the Gulf of Mexico and the Spanish Main during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries, Gaspar would have amassed a vast fortune. But with only the stranger’s word and a token of proof, Matthew is intrigued but not sold—until it becomes personal. There’s an interested third party, and they’re willing to kill for the pirate’s bounty.
What ensues is a globe-trotting adventure that will take Matthew and his friends across the world and back again. Danger lurks around every corner as does betrayal, suspicion, and murder. Can anyone be trusted, and will they survive long enough to find out?
The Legend of Gasparilla and His Treasure is a gripping, heart-pounding action adventure that’s akin to a modern-day Indiana Jones story. It’s light on history and heavy on action, suspense, and intrigue. Strap yourself in for a wild ride and buy this international bestselling book today!

- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2024A warm and welcome addition to Carolyn Arnold's series "Matthew Connor Adventures", The Legend of Gasparilla and His Treasure is another step into the world of Matthew Connor and his cronies, Cal Myers and Robyn Garcia, as they take on finding the location and retrieval of the sunken treasure of Gasparilla's pirate ship, the FloridaBlanca. Finding that ship turns out to be follow-the-dots simple. Keeping it, that might be a whole other story...
- Reviewed in the United States on January 13, 2021This was a fast read (~70,000 words) of a thriller than was perhaps 85% there. A number of Deus Ex Machina plot points produced groans....disappointing. Also, protagonist, Matthew Connor can be suddenly the expert at anything the author wants him to be, without flinching or excuse. There are some research areas that were weak, like a chronometer does not" measure longitude", but is rather an accurate sea clock (invented by John Harrison) that can be used to calculate longitude while at sea. Lastly, the careless and over use of pronouns (rather than proper nouns) for characters was confusing. There could be 5 characters in a scene and the extended use of indefinite pronouns required re-reading to see who the antecedent was. Needed better editing. The story was otherwise good. One final disappointment. I had though this was going to be more a story of legendary pirate Gasparilla directly, and not modern day sleuths looking for his treasure. There was VERY little here about the legend. Okay, my final disappointment was the near total absence of red herrings. The sleuths found the right clues at the right time, which took them directly to the spot. Of course, adding plausible red herrings would have made the story longer. The 4 stars is for the enjoyment of the story, not the speed bumps herein mentioned.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 7, 2020Very well done. Exciting and you could just see the action happening....this would make a great movie. Too bad Harrison Ford is too old for the lead. There were a couple of minor irritants but all in all the story progressed well and the end was satisfying. Definitely better than the last, although that was very good also.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2020While this book is not my favorite type of story. I think it was well written and moved along very nicely. The plot was interesting and had some good twists. Well written
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2020What an awesome book! Adventure that is unbelievable. Really a page turner. They are chased around DC and shot at yet they jump on with both feet! So exciting, the travel, the threats from a previous antagonizer. You can’t go wrong with this book!!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 11, 2020The story is good and entertaining but a couple of not so goods. 1) sonar shows things underwater, not radar. 2) Wooden ships sunk in the gulf Mexico 200 years ago are not recognizable as ships today.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2020I began ready this pirate story wondering if it would keep my interest. At the conclusion of the book I realized I couldn’t wait to finish it though I had to put it down in order to complete other tasks.
The ending was guide dramatic and caught me by surprise. You will enjoy reading this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 5, 2020Somewhat of an indiana Jones type character and treasure to be found! An enjoyable read!

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable romp for Pirate treasure
An easy engaging read which would be good for a beach or pool holiday. Plot is good and the characters are well developed. The only downside for me is the will they/won't they romance part of the book. I dislike this type of sub plot. I'd recommend reading this book and others in the series as they're quite enjoyable.
