Defending the Net: A Gay Sports Romance (Locker Room Love Book 2) Kindle Edition

3.5 out of 5 stars 137 ratings

Two hot-shot hockey players are about to clash in Genevive Chamblee’s sexy M/M romance Defending the Net.

Brighton Rabalais only wants to play hockey. He’s uninterested in the politics behind the sport, but his recruiting to the Saint Anne’s Civets is as much about politics as it is his hockey abilities. He’s been hired to replace the enigmatic, three-time champion, veteran goalie, Gatien Glesseau, who happens to be as sexy as he is talented.

Their clashing is inevitable, but Brighton can’t get a read on Gatien. However, with his own secrets a concern, Brighton doesn’t need another complication. But when Gatien threatens to invade Brighton’s privacy, Brighton defends his heart with the same vigor and passion as he does the net.

Genevive Chamblee resides in the bayou country where sweet tea and SEC football reign supreme. She is known for being witty (or so she thinks), getting lost anywhere beyond her front yard (the back is pushing it as she’s very geographically challenged), falling in love with shelter animals (and she adopts them), asking off-the-beaten-path questions that make one go “hmm”, and preparing home-cooked Creole meals that are as spicy as her writing. Genevive specializes in spinning steamy, romantic tales with humorous flair, diverse characters, and quirky views of love and human behavior. She also is not afraid to delve into darker romances as well.

She is the author of the hockey romance Locker Room Love series which includes the titles Out of the Penalty Box, Defending the Net, Ice Gladiators, Penalty Kill, and Future Goals, and the stand-alone southern romance Life's Roux: Wrong Doors. Short stories by Genevive can be found in the Heartwarmers Anthologies, Pirates: Boys Behaving Badly Anthology, and Symphony Amore Erotic Stories of Love and Music.

This book, the second in the series, sets a tenured goalie against a rookie goalie recently hired on the team. Lots of complications for the characters to muddle through, and some surprises. This book introduces the fact that there’s an underlying plot that will be explored through the series – one bad guy appears again, and we see a bit more of what’s happening.

The two characters were actually pretty funny together. I wouldn’t say it’s a grumpy/sunshine trope, but more grumpy/grumpy, but somehow the two work together once they get the “is he” questions out of the way. Of course, they run into some hurdles and miscommunications that threaten to derail their budding relationship, but they do get their hinted-at HEA.

This book was a little light on the actual hockey part.

Great story and series must read. It's funny and worth the time to read. The only thing to know is that they end too fast. I think the stories so far could are too fun to read and could be a little bit longer to finish some situations.

This story has so many points of potential conflict that it’s hard to follow them all. Brighton is a young goalie who’s attracted to the man he’s potentially going to replace-- plus family intrigue, a mysterious injury, a complicated medical history, a roommate who exploits him, and parents who don’t want to admit that he’s gay-- all things that come up over the course of the narrative, few of which are resolved by the time the story abruptly ends. It’s hard to get into without spoilers, but really, we get a whisper of hope that things will turn out maybe ok for Brighton and Gatien. Since it’s an immersive read (I couldn’t put it down, I desperately wanted to know what would happen next) and since Brighton is a really likeable character, I’m giving it 4 stars, but don’t go into this looking for all the loose ends to be tied up or anything vaguely resembling a solid HEA: treat this like a vignette, rather than a fully fledged narrative, and it’ll more than deliver.

This book abruptly ends with so much more left to the story. It's a very short book and all the plot points are briefly skimmed over. This was all true for the first book in the series which makes me not want to continue with the rest of the books.

Okay.. so.. I loveeeee M/M romance but I especially love M/M sports romance, so with that being said I saw the first book in this series and I had to read it and then of course I wanted to read the second one which is this book but with this book I felt like the story was a bit rushed and the ending could have been done differently maybe given us (the readers) a bit more… I don’t know. I was really looking forward to reading this book and overall the writing was good but the way the story unfolded didn’t fully grab me fully. BUT that is my thoughts and opinions. I am in NO way shape or form bashing this book because I can appreciate the time and effort that this author put into her book and just because it wasn’t my cup of coffee doesn’t mean it can’t be yours… so i say read the book and then let me know your own thoughts and opinions on it because they are probably different from my own. Happy Reading

The second book in the series, there isn’t as much hockey in this one. While there are references here and there I think if you are going to refer to a book as a sports romance then it should have some sports in it.

A pretty good sports romance. A lot of terminology that I didn’t really understand. It ended kind of abruptly with a sort of HEA I suppose. I would have like a an epilogue of their future together or something similar.

MM, Sports based, Romance, easy to read, likeable characters, intense story with lots going on but again as with book 1 there is no conclusion. I'm still hopeful that at the end of the series I will feel like I've read the characters complete stories. Overall enjoyed but feel left wanting more details.

It reads like a few thousand word plot outline. It has potential, but there is just too much going on, and not enough depth and detail provided for the number of plots and scenarios.

It is just too quick, jumpy and missing the plot development it needs to be really good.
