4.2 out of 5 stars 821 ratings

MARLA
I know exactly what I’d like to put in Trey’s stocking: the biggest lump of coal I can carry.

Unfortunately, I won’t get the chance, because our boss has delivered an ultimatum: plan the company Christmas party with Trey and learn to get along, or else. After only one day of trying to plan the Christmas party, I’m ready to pick the “or else.”

Is it possible to learn to get along with the most aggravating, overprotective, handsome guy I’ve ever known?
We’re about to find out if we can get our names off the naughty list or not.

Note: Christmas Like This is a closed door romantic comedy novella with sizzling kisses and deals with grief in the holiday season.

    Reader’s Notes:

    – this is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone

    – this is told from Marla and Trey’s points of view

    – a character is dealing with grief throughout the book (loss due to a car accident)

    Review:

Marla and Trey were very funny! I liked that they both threw each other into roles that they hadn’t wanted in a way that they couldn’t back out of. It made their back and forth bickering more interesting with the constant goal of one-upping each other and sticking to/with something they knew the other would hate just for that purpose. And I liked that when their bickering slowed down, they also were slowly liking some of the things the other did. It made the transition from hate to love more gradual and interesting!

Marla and Trey have a love/hate relationship.

Marla thinks Trey looks great and at one point had hoped to get to know him better, but now she can’t get past how he puts down her ideas and messes with her at work.

Trey likes Marla, but had so long ago put her in the hate zone to protect himself that now she doesn’t to want anything to do with him. Except to get back at him.

Their feud doesn’t go unnoticed by their coworkers, and one day their boss has them work on the Christmas party together. She requires that they work together on every aspect and not just divide up the tasks so that they can learn to get along.

Will they be able to work together? Or will this year’s Christmas party end up a bust?

Super cute Christmas novelette. I think the author did well including information without making the story feel way too rushed, which I sometimes find happens in shorter stories like this. I’m pretty sure I smiled for the whole second half of this books. Their back and forth banter was both sweet and spunky. I love it when a couple that can give each other a hard time and still love one another.

Marla and Trey are introduced in Neighbors Like That as Kylie’s bickering co-workers. They seem like insignificant characters in Neighbors, but it is so fun that they have their own story. There’s a fun, little “twist” at the end that you won’t want to miss!

I usually don’t read Christmas books after Christmas, but I absolutely love this series and couldn’t wait 10 months to read it.

Two coworkers who have taken their bickering to an amazing level and then are forced to get along is the story here. Marla and Trey's war is funny, but not as funny as when their boss forces them to produce the company's Christmas party. Truthful conversations and confessions take over, and the romance is sweet. Great ending.

Planning a Christmas party for her boss is the perfect distraction for a grieving employee, except for the man she has to partner. Tempers flare, sparks fly, and romance ensues. Lovely story. Highly recommended.

I love how the author brought Trey and Marla together. She brought the office myth that the 2 who fight the most must be hiding something out and told it well.

Trey and Marla are colleagues but that doesn't make them friends - just the opposite.

When their boss had enough of their bickering she sets an ultimatum: you two plan and execute our annual Christmas party and get along or else.... that is a serious threat and both have to find a way of making good on setting up a special party and get to know and maybe even more than tolerate each other.

    Highly entertaining and fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love the characters, but I'm not a fan of the drama
Reviewed in Germany on January 22, 2020
I bought this book because I liked Trey and Marla and their bickering in the first book in Neighbors Like That. The story was a lot of fun, until it wasn't (no spoilers), and I felt the drama level was unnecessary for such a short story. For me, the characters alone would have carried it without that emotional kick in the gut, which just ended up making me feel sad.

I absolutely enJOYed this festive read, starting from the cute banter then continued throughout their quirky adventure. I would definitely recommend this to those searching for that feel-good romance to match the holiday season. (This is it!) Short and sweet, this love story is sure to swoon despite their conflicting pasts and differences.
