Donnan's Rose (MacLeods of Skye Book 1) Kindle Edition
A Scottish tale of privateers, whiskey, handsome men in kilts, family, and the fiery young woman who dared to love a MacLeod.
As the fourth MacLeod son, Donnan MacLeod does not have to take on the responsibilities his older siblings do. He is free to keep his business private. As a privateer, he sails the channel looking for smugglers. Very elite smugglers.
It's not until he returns to Skye for his mother's birthday that Donnan begins to lose control of his life. And it's all because of a woman, the one woman he's loved since childhood. The woman he desires above all others - that is, should he ever think of taking a wife.
Rosalind, strong willed and opinionated far more than most, is determined to find out what Donnan is hiding. Never before had they kept things from each other, but Rosalind is convinced he's keeping something huge from her.
Everything changes in the blink of an eye.
Stowing away in the back of Donnan's coach, Rosalind changes their lives forever. The adventure begins...

- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2021An exciting and enjoyable read. It is a great combination of sibling rivalry, brotherly love and adventure. I recommend it to readers who have a love of books set in these times.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2019Enjoy reading a no-fluff adventure book without continuous flowery details. It maintained my interest, however, a bit too fast, at times, without providing enough details to avoid some confusion while jumping from one setting onto another. As with many Scottish romances, theme somewhat predictable, but a few surprises made it interesting. The conclusion was a bit abrupt, more-than-likely as a prequel to the next book in the series. Loved the cover chosen. Recommended for those who enjoy action stories.....
- Reviewed in the United States on December 14, 2018Returning home for his mother’s birthday, Rory McLeod didn’t know what he was in for and what was in store for him and a certain sassy red head.
Rosalind, has held held his heart for as long as he can remember, she is a spitfire and is intrigued to find out his secrets.
Love this family
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2022This was a good highlander read but with no romantic quality at all. The sex scenes were bland and boring. I really liked the characters but the storytelling was lacking. Was looking at the next book in this series, but from the reviews I think I will pass.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 8, 2019I liked all of the book and the main characters are great. I was impressed with Donnan and Rosalind. This book had a little bit of everythimg in it. I loved the way the newly married couple were in love and carried their lives through so much adventure. It's a good book. The only thing I did't like was the abrupt ending. It was sweet but sudden. Good all the way through!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 1, 2020Needs an editor!! There are typos, then there are complete changes of 'facts'...in ch 8 the leading lady's, Rosalind, parents die tragically and she becomes a ward of distant relatives. In ch 16 it says she lost her mother at a young age and her father ignored after that...hmmmm. There is also some unnecessary repetition and in other scenes there is information left out. How is the oldest son a Scottish Laird and a Duke that sits in English parliament but doesn't seem to to have a London residence? A good ways into the story we find out the MacLeods mother is English, so I guess, we are left to assume the title of Duke was passed through her lineage (??). The spelling of the sisters name, Lily, is sometimes spelled with two l's & others one l and brother, Mac or is it Mack? Sometimes it's both on the same page!...make a decision and stick to it, please?! Rosalyn (yep! Even the leading lady has two different names!!) grew up with the seven MacLeod siblings yet there are times some of the brothers act as if they don't know much about her, really?
The story has the potential to be intriguing, the leading characters are likeable. The true love of the fourth brother, Donnan and Rosalyn is sweet. However, the story is just written in such a messy way that it's frustrating to read.
I did finish the book in order to give a complete review. I'm not a writer. I'm not an editor. I am a voracious reader and love to read historical romance novels. There are some really well written good ones. I don't remember every author I have read but I won't purposely download another J R Salisbury book.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2019The first 30% of the book was really good but it was almost like it was over after that. There was no great character development and the storyline just fizzled. It was completely unbelievable how Donnan would willingly change so much just because he gained his wife and I struggled just to finish. I'm not sure I cared much for her writing style as even the love scenes seemed courses and abrupt as was the ending
- Reviewed in the United States on June 23, 2023Donnan wanted to live his life his own way, but his mother had other plans for him, she wanted to get married and her choice was his childhood friend Rosalind.
