My Not So Purrfect Angel

Rate this book
What do you do when you find out your cat is an angel?

Freak out. Check.

Take him to a wedding as your plus one. Check.

Fall in love?

Kai is chaotic, adorable, and not what I imagined an angel would be like. He’s naive in so many ways, especially when it comes to intimacy.

I need to loosen up and trust Kai’s instincts, but it’s hard when I’m worried about hurting him. Can I overcome my overly cautious nature and learn to go with the flow?

My Not So Purrfect Angel is a mostly fluffy M/M paranormal romance with a smidge of angst, meddling family members, a night in a castle with only one bed, and a human falling in love with his guardian angel.

Mentions of the deaths of family members in the past.

“What are you?” “Isn’t that obvious?” He shakes his head. “I’m your guardian angel, Leo.”

TROPES:
🐈‍⬛ Guardian Angel
🪽 Only one bed

Kai has been protecting Leo for years. If only Leo knew he wasn’t just a cat.

This was sooo cute! A pretty kitty who’s actually a sweet guardian angel protecting his human. I loved how clueless Kai was, the sweet & tender romance, the dates, the blanket forts, the sweet kisses.

“Being close to you is better than flying.”

An adorable and light-hearted story full of blush-y boys, head taps, first times, and all the cuteness. I need more guardian angel romances in my life.

“I’m not perfect, Leo.”
“No. You’re purrfect.”

My Not So Purrfect Angel was a fluffy and super sweet paranormal romance!

I really enjoyed this one, it was so entertaining and cute! Things were a little awkward at first with Leo finding out that his cat was in fact his guardian angel, but after getting over his initial shock and surprise it didn't take long before he and Kai started falling for each other. Both Leo and Kai were very likeable characters, and while their story was overall lighthearted, there were still some heavier topics present as Leo had been through quite a lot.

These two were adorable and their story made me smile a lot. Leo was genuinely a good person, and Kai was very charming and I really liked his innocence. Kai was being pretty clueless and naïve, but doing his best at figuring out how to be a human. It was endearing to see how he handled the different situations, and the intimate moments between him and Leo ended up being both fun and hot.

My Not So Purrfect Angel was a fun and heartwarming read, and I loved seeing Leo and Kai's falling in love with each other. It was such a lovely story and I pretty much adored everything about this one!

This was such a fun and adorable, warm and fuzzy read! Leo’s guardian angel is actually the cat he’s had with him for 17 years?! That’s so cool. Having the cat that’s been around you for nearly 2 decades turn into a man you can’t keep your eyes (or hands or lips) off of has its complications. Not to mention the embarassment of realizing your cat witnessed some things you might not have wanted a new love interest to know! Poor Leo! But also, poor Kai! I hope there are more stories like this one coming. It filled me with joy and wonder and hope. I’ve loved everything I’ve ever read from this author and this one is up there with my absolute favorites. Can’t wait to see what comes next!

I love domesticated cats who shift, ( especially like cat familiars as well who can talk as cats.)
Cayenne is 17 years old and as far as his owner Leo knows is a normal cat. However, one day Cayenne , Kai, shifts and tells Leo that he is actually his guardian angel.
This is a fluffy tale where Kai and Leo fall in love and Leo gets his head around angels.
A nice way to pass an hour or two.

- human/angel
- low/no angst

Kai has been Leo's guardian angel for the last 17 years. In the form of a cat, admittedly. I liked the idea that Kai has been protecting Leo without him knowing about it as his guardian angel - it could come across as creepy if it wasn't written as well as it is. Kai is just so charming and naive at the start that it's impossible not to love him. He is so genuine and guileless and just ... good, all he wants is the best for Leo. Then his cover is blown one day, and Leo finds out his cat isn't just his cat and things develop from there.

I really enjoyed the story, it's fun and light with very little angst except a couple of moments. I liked Leo very much too, he'd been through quite a lot in his life but again was a good person and I enjoyed seeing him teach Leo everything. If anything, I wasn't sure about Leo's family - there's meddling and there's downright interfering and being pushy and I think they crossed that line to being inappropriate, I didn't find them that that charming although they did mean well, I suppose.

I loved Leo and Kai though, Kai learning all about being human, and human interactions was funny, cringe, and altogether delightful though. I liked the ending too, originally I thought I'd have liked an epilogue so we find out how they navigated everything, but on reflection I think I prefer how it was left more open-ended, it felt more hopeful that way. I really enjoyed this, and I think it was my first (but not last) from this author.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

This was my first book by this author as well as of this type; a human and his guardian angel who’s able to transform at will into a cat or possibly into any animal of his choosing.

Cayenne, a ginger cat, first appeared to Leo as a tiny kitten following the passing of his parents in an accident in which Leo had also been involved. Eighteen and alone, the kitten gave Leo something besides his grief to focus on and seventeen years later, he and Cayenne were still together.

The first time Leo is confronted with Cayenne transforming into a blue jean and t-shirt clad redhead he’s certain he’s dreaming but when he learns Cayenne is his guardian angel and has been watching over him since his family’s accident...he’s still not certain he isn’t dreaming.

There was lots of humor as the two began to get to know each other but I had tears come to my eyes many times as well in this sweet slow burn-y read. I can’t really say it was as lighthearted as I expected it to be but it wasn’t this huge angst-fest either. I guess it would fall somewhere in the low to medium range, maybe? I’m probably not a good judge as I prefer angst free romance but other than a few tears, I survived. For those readers who positively LOVE teary eyed romance as well as a little drama, I think this will be something you absolutely fall in love with but I was hoping for something more lighthearted and fun so for me, it gets 4 stars!

I received a copy of this book for free from GRR but am voluntarily leaving a review.

Kai and Leo's story was a wonderfully wholesome romance between a man and his guardian angel. I connected with both of the characters effortlessly and found it easy to get invested in their newfound relationship. Kai was an adorably mischievous chaos gremlin, and I had a ton of fun seeing how his presence changed Leo's life for the better. It took Leo a bit of time to adjust to having Kai in his life, but once he did the two of them settled into a lighthearted and sweet partnership that I never once doubted. The majority of this book was spent exploring Leo and Kai's developing romance and featured lots of bonding time, fun date nights, and heartfelt conversations. I didn't realize how quickly I was devouring the story until I was more than halfway done, and that momentum carried on all the way through the ending. I wouldn't say this book had any real angst -- the one topic that caused Kai some grief was coming to terms with the reality of the significant difference in his and Leo's lifespans -- but I did have to squint a little at the end to make sense of the feather tattoo plot point. On the one hand, I'm glad that things wrapped up happily, but I also wish there had been a better explanation for how Kai and Leo knew what it meant. That aside, I did really enjoy this fluffy, feel-good romance and I'm content with the direction Leo and Kai's lives are headed.

**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.

**********Contains Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book. This was such a cute read. I loved Leo & Kai’s story. Shortly after Leo lost both his parents at 18 years old he found a tiny white & ginger kitten who he named Cayenne. Cayenne has been with him for the last 17 years and has helped him through the loss of his parents but Cayenne isn’t actually a cat but Leo’s guardian angel Kai. Kai reveals that he’s not actually a cat protect Leo from being hurt really badly. It takes Leo awhile to believe that Cayenne is actually Kai and a guardian angel, as he believes it’s just a dream. I liked how Kai and Leo’s relationship progressed. I did find Leo’s cousin Saffron’s antics trying to force Kai and Leo together pretty weird. I’m looking forward to reading more books from Colette in the future. I’d definitely recommend this book, series and author to everyone.

This story was so sweet! I really had a great time reading it and I loved Leo and Kai.

Leo has been living with his cat Cayenne for the past 17 years. Cayenne appeared to him in a moment of great need, soon after the passing of his parents. He never realized how special his cat was until Cayenne unexpectedly changed into a man. Except he's not exactly a man because apparently Cayenne, or should I say Kai, claims to be Leo's guardian angel. Unbelievable, right? Well, Leo sure didn't believe him 😂

My Not So Purrfect Angel brings us along Leo as he navigates the aftermath of learning about his live-in guardian angel and starts to develop feelings for this surprising companion.

Kai was super sweet and innocent and I loved how eager he was to experience new things alongside Leo. A little push from Leo's family was all it took for them to explore their growing feelings and bring them to the path of a happily ever after.

It’s been a little while since Colette Davison has published a new book but this one was worth the wait! I loved Kai and Leo. This was a super sweet, slow-burn, low angst story and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of reading it. I could hardly believe how quickly I read it; once I started I just couldn’t stop.

Kai is on earth to protect Leo and he’s been doing that for 17 years, posing as his cat Cayenne. He loves head pats and cuddling with Leo as a cat but he loves those even more after he inadvertently lets Leo know that he’s not really a cat.

There were so many special moments in this story. After Leo gets over the shock of finding out his cat isn’t really a cat, he slowly begins to have feelings for the human-looking Kai. I loved all of the secondary characters, Leo’s cousin and aunt but especially his neighbor Janice. Janice had some really wise words for Kai when he needed them.

An advanced copy of this book was provided to me at my request; my review was voluntary and not influenced by the author.

“I’m your guardian angel, Leo. It’s been my job to protect you since the car crash.”

I absolutely loved this book. It was a unique premise and I was immediately hooked to the story. Not only do I love the idea of a romance between a man and his guardian angel, but I absolutely loved that the angel appeared to him a week after his parents' death in the form of a cat and stuck with him for seventeen years. (Loved the name Cayenne for a ginger cat!) Even from the beginning you can see how bonded they are, and I loved the way Leo would interpret Cayenne's various expressions and behavior. It was adorable. I really liked the circumstances of Leo finally meeting Kai properly.. officially? Leo's reaction was believable- and pretty level headed all things considered. I loved the way their relationship progressed. I also liked the supporting characters. A beautiful, fluffy romance. This is the first book I've read by this author and I will definitely be reading more. Highly recommend! 5 stars.

Fam, this book is so cute!! I’m not even a cat lover (I’m a cat tolerator though, cat liker?) and it made me have all the warm fuzzies over “Cayenne.” First of all, that’s such an adorable name for a ginger cat! And man, did he ever live up to the cuteness! Can't deny it though, he really is a chaos gremlin in the best of ways lol.

It’s a book you can fairly easily predict (typically, I never know what's happening and I could still guess), but that doesn’t take anything away from it. It’s just a fun, really lighthearted, slow-medium burn book. The steamy parts are well balanced with the heart and soul of it all. I’d for sure re-read it and I’m really glad I signed up for it in the first place.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews and this is my honest review. 4.75 stars for the guys who were meant for each other. You’ll have to imagine my heart eyes, especially for the ending.

Leo and Kai's romance is a slow burn, low angst story of falling in love with your guardian angel, who has actually been your cat for the last seventeen years....
It's fairly lighthearted, though it deals with the grief of losing your parents. Kai is just the sweetest guy and pretty innocent, his only focus having been Leo for the last seventeen years. Leo's discovery of who Kai is was fairly amusing after a near life saving incident.
The two men work very well together. Kai's excitement and enthusiasm for life seeping into Leo who has been living a very quiet life but now opens up into the possibilities of living life again and even sharing it with someone other than his cat and lovely neighbour, Janice, who I think also just wants some company and doesn't care whether it's human or feline.
A sweet romance that is so easy to enjoy as we read one human and one guardian angel fall in love.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

This feel-good paranormal romance was entertaining, sweet and low angst. I found it an interesting take on angels. Kai, otherwise known as Cayenne in his cat form, has been with Leo for 17 years, ever since Leo's parents passed away. He succeeded in giving Leo a reason to get up in the morning. Leo is a kind human being who loves animals and who is gobsmacked when he finds out his beloved cat is really an angel. Kai has been around forever but is still very innocent in many ways, and he learns a lot from Leo. They are so sweet together! I love their neighbour Janice, but I felt that Leo's cousins were interfering in a bit of a creepy way. I think the ending was left open to interpretation, and I felt a little ambivalent about that. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I now have plans to read more of them.

While it’s a light story with a fun premise, there is still a remarkable amount of depth to the main characters. Leo, who experienced a great loss early in life and who seems to be struggling for much of the book in allowing his emotions to grow and his rationality to take a back seat to them. Kai, on the other hand, who lives in the moment and doesn’t understand neither Leo’s hesitancy nor his focus on others to his own detriment.

While their official first meeting was a bit awkward and took some adjustment, their relationship’s eventual evolution was generally smooth, awkwardly funny in spots, but definitely a match made in heaven.

In short, a fun, light read well worth the time invested.

Aw, this is so sweet! Leo is alone, except for his cat, Cayenne. He has a job he loves. He’s got a decent apartment, family, a great neighbor. He just doesn’t realize he has a guardian angel.
Kai likes being a cat. He’s not fond of cat food or litter boxes. He doesn’t mind cream, but really doesn’t want to lap it out of a saucer. And he loves Leo.
If Leo were less of a good person, or Kai either more or less innocent, this story might not have worked. But they are, and it’s amazing. It’s just the right length for what it is. The other characters in the book are perfect, especially Janice, his neighbor. She has some great advice too.
I wish it was longer, just so I wouldn’t have to be done yet!

This whimsical and tender story follows Leo as he navigates an unexpected and extraordinary bond with Kai, their cat-turned-angel. While Kai’s endearing chaos and innocence challenge Leo’s cautious nature, the two embark on a journey of trust, vulnerability, and love. Attending a wedding together as an unconventional duo, Leo learns to let go of his fears and embrace the unpredictable beauty of life and relationships. It’s a heartwarming tale of growth, trust, and the magic of connection.

I loved this story with the two men who had such a great connection which easily became love. There were also some funny moments which made me smile. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

Stoppppp why was this the cutest thing!!!

Kai and Leo have shared so much over the last 17 years, only Kai is Cayenne, Leo’s cat who came to him while he was mourning.

I loved that Kai was so open about how he felt for Leo even tho he was oh so clueless about the things he was saying. The intimacy they shared was so tender and sweet, and I love how needy Kai was for Leo’s touch. The way he loved head pats as a cat and as Kai 🫠🫠🫠

I smiled so much during this book ♥️

If you’re in the mood for something low angst, sweet and funny this is the book you should pick up! It’ll give you all the butterflies 🦋

What would you do if you found out if your cat is actually a cat, but your guardian angel. Me I probably would have totally freaked out. Leo took it rather well, though he thought he was just in some type of comma :D. I loved watching Kai experiencing all kinds of firsts, from dancing to sexy times to love. I loved when he took Leo flying, though Leo isn't allowed to see him in all of his Angel glory. This was so much fun. This is a new to me author, but it will not be the last book I read by her & can't wait to start another one.

This book, was so good that putting it down was nearly impossible from the first page to the last it kept me entertained, engrossed and invested wanting to find out how this wonderful love story was going to end. Leo had a hard time when his world came crashing down losing his parents and struggling to find his way on his own was so terribly difficult. Finding Cayenne was a life saver for him, but little did he know just how important his cat was. A Guardian angel, a love and a romance that could last a lifetime would be unbelievable right?!

I read this pretty much straight through, and I really enjoyed it. It's an incredibly sweet read with adorable characters and a few laughs. I must admit I was 100% looking at my own ginger-and-white kitty and asking him if he was a secret angel-- he's certainly a chaos gremlin.

This was a delightfully sweet book and I loved the MCs. It was surprisingly emotional and I teared up at a couple of points, which I hadn't expected. Definitely recommend if you are in the market for a really sweet read. I would have loved to see Kai's first time bottoming, but I guess we can't have everything. A really lovely book.

My Not So Purrfect Angel by Colette Davison is a standalone book about a cat who is really a guardian angel. Kai has been watching over Leo for seventeen years. When he gets exposed, the two of them have to figure out their new relationship. I absolutely loved this story and how unique it was. Kai was super sweet and naive for an angel. Leo cared so much for the people and animals around him. I absolutely sobbed when the reality of life without Leo hit Kai. It was so touching and I swear Colette made me feel so much emotion in that scene. I just really enjoyed this story and cannot wait to see where Colette takes us next.

This was such a fun story. Kai is Leo’s guardian angel that’s been hiding as his cat for many years, until he decides to show Leo who is he. Their relationship so fun to watch develop, and was tooth ache level sweet. Kai was so pure and clueless and Leo and was the kindest person. I did not anticipate to cry, but I definitely did towards the end! It was just so emotional. That being said, this is a happy book! If you’re looking for a lighthearted, sweet book, I’d definitely give this one a try!

Sweet feline

This was a terrific idea for a story and Colette Davison has done a fantastic job with making a fun, interesting tale (pun intended). Cayenne/Kai is definitely my favorite character in both his human and cat form. I really enjoyed the way that Ms Davison wrote so many cat habits into Kai’s human form as it added so much to the story, humor especially. I also loved their neighbor Janice and found that she adds so much to the story as well as being a fun character. I would love to know more about what happens to these various characters.

Leo was devasted after the loss of his parents. Kai enters his life as his guardian angel cat. Because you know cats are such angels. Smile. My heart went out to both of them though as Kai had the challenge of breaking past Leo's grief and sadness. My favorite times were the all the things Kai did while being human for the first time. He was awkward all around which made his interactions with Leo even sweeter and so genuine. Adore this cover as it is so accurate!

I really enjoyed this sweet paranormal romance about a human and his guardian angel falling in love. Leo doesn't know that the cat he had since his parents death is actually his guardian angel who protected him for years until he shifts in his human form.

It's a short and very lovely story with cute moments and adorable characters. There were fun and heartwarming moments and overall it's lighthearted and low angst. Kai learning to be and act human was funny.

Hysterically sweet! Leo, is a pushover for the animals rescued. His cat, Cayenne has been with him 17 years, arriving a week after his Parents' deaths. After he starts wondering about the lifespan of cats, he finds out his cat Cayenne is really Kai, his guardian angel. Cayenne is adorably funny, Kai is sweet as pie. This is an absolutely amazingly, sweet funny story and just makes you feel warm and snuggly. Nicely done. I received and ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I am so happy I got to read this because it was just the kind of gooey happiness I needed this week.
