About the author

I am a writer of contemporary and speculative fiction and artist of all things monsters. I live to create new worlds and the people in them. Several of my books have been best sellers both nationally and internationally. I have also been a finalist in the LAMDA awards, the "Oscars" of gay literary works.
I do my best to write original stories with powerful characters and emotion as well as a fast paced plot. My goal isn't just to deliver a good story but to take the reader into the story and let them experience the characters as if they are right there with them.
While almost all my books have a romantic element, I will be the first to admit, they are not traditional romance. In fact, I'd like to think there is nothing traditional about them. And the stories I paint are done so way outside the lines of traditional genres.
One of my favorite things to do as a writer is push the boundaries of what makes a story and to deliver the unexpected and maybe even change the perspective of the reader.
My characters are more often than not, beautifully flawed, not alway the good guy, and make mistakes. Their stories will take dark turns which, in the end, make the light at the end of the tunnel all the more brighter.
If you're looking for something different, exciting, and unique, my books are for you.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2020Format: KindleVerified Purchase*Spoilers ahead* Ohmygoodness!!!! When I found out that Mr. Wilder was writing a sequel to In the Absence of Light, I did a happy dance in my office at work! I mean, wow! After around five years later, here came a sequel to one of my favorite books. By the Light of Dawn did not disappoint, and did a fantastic job of hitting me in the feels. However, if you have not read ITAOL first, you will have missed out on a lot of back story and history between Morgan and Grant, and a few other characters along the way.
It's been about a year since the end of the first book, and Morgan has made plans that definitely include Grant; he just neglected to inform Grant of his plans. You see, a statement was made in the first book, and Morgan is using it as his way to get to where he has a feeling they need to be. But, Morgan doesn't leave Durstrand, so a trip in a rental to put the 'Starry Night' in the ocean is a BIT out of his comfort zone.
Grant is so desperately in love with Morgan that he eventually gives in, although reluctantly. They, and of course Dog, get in the van not long after the truck tows the hand made sailboat away. Grant consistently asks if they need to turn around, while Morgan throws thoughts and Dog soothes Morgan in an almost magical way. If you know anything about Morgan and Grant, or highly functioning people with autism, you can just imagine how the road trip goes.
Then, things don't happen according to Morgan's well thought out plan. He read all the books and rules and laws, but they keep telling him no! Bad idea, folks. Grant, bless his heart, is willing to do anything, even go back to his old ways, so Morgan can get where he wants to be. He questioned him once, he's got to believe in him now. But, of course, Grant sticks his foot in his mouth, and doesn't know what's happening until Morgan takes charge once again.
Out on the sea, they see and do things that Morgan could never experience on land. Especially Grant getting stung by a venomous fish, and a storm blowing in when he can't help. Things get dicey, and my heart was stop and go for a while, but eventually things settled down, and it was time for Morgan to be where he needed to be.
They came upon a ship wreck, with two wounded men in a life raft that had seen better days. The two men are extremely important, and date back to before and during ITAOL, but truths even Grant didn't know are revealed. Both men are taken away by EMS, and Grant and Morgan are invited to stay with the people who saw their flares for help.
Overall, though the journey was rough, with trials and failures along the way, I think in the end that Morgan has gained an appreciation of the ocean, if not the trip there. Grant still longs for the waves and the sand, and I hope we'll see more adventures on the 'Starry Night.' I think their new friends may have some impact on their travel plans as well.
Overall, Dog is the definition of amazing. He calms and protects Morgan like a trained service animal would, and Morgan has him trained to nonverbal cues, which is so cool to "watch." (He has Grant trained, too.) The sexy times were sexy, and the awkward times were heart wrenching. But, through it all, the love between Morgan and Grant is undeniable, and the level of devotion Grant shows toward Morgan is blindi
PS - I totally missed a huge Easter egg! Keep your eyes open for a blast from the past.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 18, 2021Format: KindleVerified PurchaseI was thrilled to discover another Morgan Grant book. In the Absence of Light is one of my all time favorite stories. This story isn't quite as powerful as the first book, but it shows us readers how Morgan and Grant's relationship has grown. And, there's an adorable dog who saves the day!
The story has lots of action and adventure. We see the world through Morgan's eyes, and experience a first encounter with sea animals. The writing is beautiful, and the intimate scenes are romantic. I was swept away, as usual, by the writing of Adrienne Wilder, who helped transport me to another world that is is seen by the light of dawn.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 20, 2020Format: KindleVerified PurchaseIn the Absence of Light was the first book by Adrienne Wilder I ever read and one of the first MM romances I tried. To say that I loved that book is understating it- it was a wild ride full of characters you couldn't help but adore. I don't re-read books as a rule, but it was one I came back to a few times over the years just so I could sit with Morgan and Grant for a while. When I found out there was a sequel I was ecstatic and nervous - this book had a lot to live up to!
And it 100% did - because it didn't try to copy the original formula that made book 1 sing. Instead this book focused on what married life looked like for Grant and Morgan and acknowledged the joy, love, mystery, adoration - and yes, the limitations - that comes with their relationship. This book saw Morgan push himself way outside of his comfort zone in big ways, brought back favorites from the first book and even saw a cameo from other books that made me cry. In short, if you loved In the Absence of Light, you'll love this book. My only wish? More stories with Morgan, Grant and Dog - who finally, amazingly earned his name.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2024Format: KindleVerified PurchaseLike so many people Morgan meets, I had to let go of a lot of my preconceived notions and I'm so glad I did.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2023Format: KindleVerified PurchaseA sequel to In the Absence of Light, this book continues the story of Morgan and Grant. Now married and blissfully happy, Morgan reveals that they need to get their home-built book, Starry Night, in to the ocean because...Morgan needs to be somewhere offshore. Plus Morgan knows that Grant misses the ocean. Grant is willing to give up the ocean for Morgan, who is autistic and doesn't cope with change. What follows includes a messy series of events that lead to a very satisfying conclusion.
I hope at some point we get to have more Morgan and Grant someday.

Its actually taken me a little bit of time to come to my rating for this one as I just wasn’t sure how I felt about this one, and I’m still struggling to verbalise it.
What I liked
I love the bits with Morgan and Grant, they still have such a great chemistry and the comic bits were well done.
I enjoyed seeing Morgan trying new things like leaving his home and the food at the hotel.
I very much enjoyed Grant’s absolute faith in Morgan. When Morgan said they had to go, he went no questions asked.
I did at the same time question parts of this, as he left without knowing where they were going and without the proper supplies some of which were food on a journey for an unknown duration and location, it just seemed very irresponsible to me.
The parts I didn’t like
The reasons for the boat trip in the first place.
I’m more than happy with Morgan being able to read people but this just went to the right and kept going and didn’t work for me.
I still really want to read Jeff and Felix’s book, so I look forward to that

5.0 out of 5 stars So Good
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHow am I ever gonna live without Morgan now?! I'm several years late but I am so happy I waited so long to read In the Absence of Light because I could read this as soon as I finished. I read these two books in two days. I couldn't stop. I am so in love with these characters. With their love. I do hope Adrienne writes lots and lots of adventures for them. I need practice calling Hero by his name now ❤️

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful extended epilogue.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseBy the Light of Dawn is basically an extended epilogue for In the Absence of Light. A welcome return to Grant and Morgan.
Morgan is as delightful as ever and Grant wonderfully patient and in love with his autistic husband. The chemistry between Grand and Morgan is still undeniably hot and the banter just so funny and adorable.
Enjoying their happily married settled life, with the freedom of having no one chase after them, Morgan makes plans that include Grant, Dog, the ocean and Morgan's handmade sailboat -Starry Night; but he just neglects to inform Grant of his plans.
Grant is so desperately in love with Morgan he just accepts that Morgan ‘knows things’ and trusts him enough to go along with their new adventure (although reluctantly at first).
Out on the sea, things do not quite go as Morgan planned, things get seriously dicey, Grant gets stung by a venomous fish, and they are faced with a storm with near fatal consequences. Nail biting moments indeed.
They also came upon a shipwreck, with two wounded men (Jeff & Felix) in a life raft that had seen better days. I am still unsure how to feel about Jeff after ‘In The Absence Of Light’ but I am intrigued at the prospect of a book for them.
Thank Goodness for ‘Dog’, a true hero indeed in more ways than one! He calms and protects Morgan like a trained service animal would, and Morgan has him trained to nonverbal cues.
Another great read by Adrienne Wilder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Erneut aussergewöhnlich

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseHow wonderful to catch up with Grant and Morgan again. Adrienne Wilder is one of my favourite authors and these are two of his best characters. You have to read The Absence of Light first to see where this beautiful story starts and then you can continue to love this pair.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Story.
Format: KindleVerified PurchaseWe get reacquainted with Morgan and Grant who we met in 'In the Absence of Light', delightfully so. You really need to read the other story first, this is readable without it but you'd miss out on SOOO much if you don't. Morgan is as delightful as ever and Grant wonderfully patient and in love with his autistic husband. The yacht they were building at the end of that previous story is finished and they set sail, the journey starts off humble, after a faux pas from Grant, then sweet, then sexy as heck, and then desperate and intense. With these two of course it does! Another applaudable story from this author, such great writing.
