5-star Review

Nora's Promise by Sedona Hutton is a
gripping contemporary romance with an intriguing twist, a love story explored between two completely incompatible characters, and it is here that the tension and the steam gets even more irresistible. Nora has just lost her sister, Lynn, and feels that her life has no meaning, a feeling she shared with her sister. Now she is left with her orphaned nephew. Apart from the loss of her sister, there is the breakup with her boyfriend. When Davey Johnson, the handsome NASCAR driver who never wanted his life interrupted by a child, discovers that he has a nine-year-old son, he commits to becoming a good father. But he knows very little about parenting so he asks Nora for help, not knowing that an attraction is about to develop between them that is more irresistible than he never imagined. Two characters with very little or nothing in common. Can they allow the wave of love to carry them off on an adventure or will their differences stand in the way?

Sedona Hutton creates very
interesting and elaborately developed characters in Nora and Davey. They are characters with different personalities, a vegan and a spirited young man who wants nothing but his freedom. There is already a complex situation that is deftly explored in the narrative. The story begins with a strong premise. Lynn, Nora's sister, hasn't just died, but has also left behind a son. And that is the beginning of Nora's troubles, but things just get worse for her because a boyfriend dumps her. Nora's Promise is emotionally intense, heartwarming, and crafted to arouse powerful emotions in readers. Your heartbeat will quicken as you explore the hearts of these characters. Nora's Promise is fast paced and utterly delightful.

Nora’s Promise is not the first book by Sedona Hutton that I read. And it certainly won’t be the last. I love her books: the intriguing stories, well-developed, complicated and captivating characters, and the beautiful descriptions. Nora’s Promise is overflowing with powerful and conflicting emotions: grief versus happiness, desperation versus hope, vengeance versus forgiveness, and so much more.
Nora Williams is a beautiful person—inside and out. She’s caring and devoted to humans and animals, and she adores her nephew, Ben, who has never met his father and lost his mother at the sweet age of nine.
After her sister’s death, Nora tracks down Ben’s father, the famous NASCAR driver Davey Johnson. Disappointed by the self-centered and unreliable celebrity that he appears to be, she has second thoughts about her decision to find him.
And when Davey and Nora develop feelings for each other, things get even more complicated and…sizzling.
I kept turning pages, wishing and hoping for Nora to find out the real person under the famous NASCAR driver façade and give love a chance.

I thought this was a well-written story with a variety of characters who were mostly likable and interesting. I rated it highly because I thought the story flowed nicely and kept my attention. The writing was solid with a comfortable style. I wouldn't be honest if I didn't point out that the reader must either embrace or ignore paranormal references that will either reinforce your core belief system or stretch it well outside of your comfort zone. Personally, I struggled with the constant references to communicating with others through unconventional means, but I shoved my bias aside and just tried to enjoy the story. Central themes of placing a high value on relationships, staying positive when facing adversity, and pursuing your dreams all resonated with me. However, the author does slip into a preaching mode a bit too much for my taste with a mantra of "living in the moment" that was repeated far more often than necessary to drive home the message. Again, with the caveats noted, I'd recommend this novel. Just remember—it's fiction and the author has the right to take you in whatever direction she chooses even though it might not be a path that you would normally choose for yourself.

As our world is changing, we are guided to many different things to assist us in our own personal journey. Sedona's books happened to be one of those things for me.

Being a racing fan, I was curious about this book, Nora's Promise. What I didn't realize was it was much more than a racing story!

Nora has some twist and turns to navigate, but she isn't alone in this journey. Keeping an open-mind to limitless possibilities, she finds guidance from some unusual places, people, and animals. Not only does Nora work through her own life situations, she also finds a connection to the racing world.

Davey has only known racing, and soon he will find there is so much more out there in the world. Through his own twist and turns to navigate, Davey comes to realize family and friends are much more connected than he ever thought possible.

Sedona's story of Nora and Davey is an easy-read and full of many adventures, including into the world of spiritual magic.

“Nora’s Promise” is a contemporary romance that will touch your heart in more ways than one. Having just tragically lost her sister, Nora tries her best to become a second mom to her little nephew Ben, no matter what cost and sacrifices it initially takes. Hoping to find Ben’s biological father, Nora never thought that she would find something much more in the Nascar star Davey than just a long-lost parent. From that point on, I had trouble putting the book down because I just had to know how it all turns out for this new unorthodox family.

Nora was a character you love from page one, but it was Davey’s character development that impressed me the most. I absolutely loved watching him grow and transform from a carefree young star to a responsible and compassionate father and partner, who, with Nora and Ben’s help, discovers in himself the qualities he never suspected existed (I don’t want to give away any spoilers, but the episode with the cow and her calf just completely won me over. He got major brownie points just for that one).

Sweet and humorous in all the right places, “Nora’s Promise” is a perfect choice for all fans of the genre. Highly recommended!

With so much negative emotion and stress in the world, it was endearing to read a feel good novel where everyone is granted a happily ever after ending. Failed relationships from the past impact the present but the characters bounce back and mature, and are smart enough to realize a good thing when the choices and opportunites they're faced with in the present promise a rosy future. Nora is sweet and caring, a vegan, and can communicate with animals and her dead grandpa. Davey, a NASCAR driver, has tired of shallow relationships and living the wild life and is ready to settle into the role of father to a son he didn't know he had. I love the way their lives meshed together after starting from a place where they had nothing in common but a 9 year old boy. Great secondary characters and life lessons learned add depth to the book. I can't wait to read the next in the series.

Poor old Nora - getting dumped by a boyfriend after her sister dies. But now she is guardian to her nephew Ben and we join Nora on her journey of starting over.

This is a great love and life story with a touch of the paranormal which I like and the unique and quirky character trait of Nora being able to communicate with animals.

There’s a lot going on at a lot of levels in this novel. It is a heartwarming read with a plucky heroine. A good story, well told. And I’m loving the vegan plotline.

This is a wonderfully romantic story with characters that are easy to fall in love with. Not only did I enjoy the ride reading Nora and Davey’s story, the story of Cruz and Steph mixed in so well. Ben was the perfect addition and the characters connections with each other are enviable. What a vegan treat to read!

I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to other readers. Here is a love story that blends in the heroine's ability to talk to animal and have them talk back with a zen level of intelligence, vegan and vegetarian philosophy with dysfunctional family histories, wit the help of a ghost who possesses a body to engage with the heroine.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very different kind of sports romance
Reviewed in Australia on January 11, 2021
This sports romance was not at all what I expected when I bought this book. It was a small town romance that at its core was new aged/ spirituality/ metaphysics themed based story. Davey is truly a wonderful character. He steps up even when it’s difficult, is open and accepting. Nora is a complicated character. I love that she is able to communicate to animals and her love for her nephew is admirable, but at times I found her a frustrating character. I appreciated the wisdom of other characters we meet in this story.

Where surprisingly this story worked its magic was the messages that resonated with me. There were so many. The animals were truly beautiful and actually made me sad “hearing” their voices, especially Astro’s story. Its just a reminder how special angels with fur are. Sometimes we come across things just when we need the messages most and this book was just that.
