About the author

Lucinda Riley was born in 1965 in Ireland, and after an early career as an actress in film, theatre and television, wrote her first book aged twenty-four. Her books have been translated into thirty-seven languages and continue to strike an emotional chord with all cultures around the world. The Seven Sisters series specifically has become a global phenomenon, creating its own genre, and there are plans to create a seven-season TV series.
Her books have been nominated for numerous awards, including the Italian Bancarella prize, The Lovely Books award in Germany, and the Romantic Novel of the Year award. In 2020 she received the Dutch Platinum award for sales over 300,000 copies for a single novel in one year – an award last won by J K Rowling for Harry Potter.
In collaboration with her son Harry Whittaker, she also devised and wrote a series of books for children called ‘The Guardian Angels’ series.
Though she brought up her four children mostly in Norfolk in England, in 2015 she fulfilled her dream of buying a remote farmhouse in West Cork, Ireland, which she always felt was her spiritual home, and indeed this was where her last five books were written.
Lucinda was diagnosed with cancer in 2017 and died on June 11th 2021, surrounded by her family.

- Reviewed in the United States on July 2, 2024Absolutely love the Author Lucinda Riley.
Her past family blends with the present. How lives are entangled from the past to the present. Very beautifully written and a perfect read when on vacation. Her writing makes you live in the moment.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 5, 2019I have never read a Lucinda Riley book that I didn't like. The characters were represented well. There were secrets galore in the story. I recently visited Europe, so I enjoyed the setting. I never give away the plot so you will have to read yourself. In a little note To Ms Riley, if you are going to refer to God, there is only One.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 25, 2025A beautifully written love story. I have never been to Greece. But after reading this book, I believe I would love it.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2018The year is 2006 and 13 year old Alex is spending a summer in Cyprus. He is a boy with an over active mind and imagination. The house is one that was inherited by his mother and so the family is planning a summer vacation there. The story is set in 2006 and 2016 and mainly told through Alex's diary. Of course, as stories go this one is complicated, with secrets held by its inhabitants from years past as one by one a host of characters enter the scene, each with their own secrets and problems. The house is nicknamed "Pandora" and I wonder why it wasn't called Pandora's Box as the olive tree really has nothing at all to do with the story. Alex is the glue that holds the book together in a most witty and sarcastic way. But that said, in all of its almost 600 pages, I grew impatient to hear about the secrets of the past. That was not to be, as we journey along with Alex to a tidy conclusion wrapped up in a bow. The book could have been a bit shorter with less fillers added to the story. In all, I would rate this story with 3.5 stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2016I think I've read nearly all Lucinda Riley's novels and discovered each has a different voice. The Seven Sisters series I find a little over wrought with emotion that doesn't always ring true for me.
The Olive Tree has an entirely different mood and voice. Much lighter and with a nice subtle sense of humour which I appreciated. Each character, from Alex to Helena is very recognizable and you can't help but empathize with their ups and downs. Perhaps because this book was inspired by real life, it's easy pace and heart felt emotions shine through. There's the trademark mystery clues strewn throughout but it never becomes annoying or predictable.
I bought this to read on my Kindle for a trip and thoroughly enjoyed it. Looking forward to reading The Italian Girl which awaits on my shelf!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2020Lucinda Riley spins a good yarn in exotic places; beautifully drawn scenery that makes me want to visit. Her stories carry me along. Her characters are well drawn and interesting. As something of a grammar critic, I was bothered by several word misuses or errors scattered throughout the book. However, the story provided much needed entertainment during this period of social distancing.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2019What a wonderful book! I loved the building of so many different characters. The emotion that is felt by several of the main characters brings tears to my eyes. They are real yet exotic. The heat of their environment and the beauty are so vivid you are there with them. It’s a building story. You are simply sucked into their lives and can’t put the book down but, want to find out what happens next. I loved this book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2019This nail-biting story of a family who lives and loves in Cyprus and England will keep any reader spellbound as the fascinating story unfolds. Be warned this book is just as difficult to put down as any other by this author.

Review:
This book is written from a dual perspective, first of all by Helena and secondly from the perspective of her son Alex. The book starts as the family all go together on a holiday to Cyprus to a villa named Pandora. Helena has recently inherited this house from her
Godfather, it’s also the place where she had an idyllic summer romance twenty four years ago a time that had a great impact on the rest of her life.
Overall:
This book is very well written, very atmospheric and evocative. The scenery is described vividly. It wasn’t hard to imagine actually being there. The characters are complex and fully developed, they deal with sadness, love, deceit, anger, and because of this they felt realistic and were interesting. The plot is well paced and holds together well without any loose ends. This made the book very captivating and hard to put down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Author
All of Lucinda Riley's books are brilliant. This author takes us all over the world as her stories are set in many different countries. For someone who looks so young in her photos, I must also assume that she has experienced a great deal of life. Her books, and I mean all of them so far - still waiting for the 7th sister - have true to life experiences such as living with an alcoholic husband, losing a child, divorce, but this doesn't make the books depressing, just more authentic. I am not going to write individual reviews for all her books, but can wholeheartedly recommend all of them. I do not, unfortunately, get a back-hander for my praise! Lucinda has brought me this far through the Corvid-19 pandemic - thank you.
