    I have read all 21 of these books and look forward to the next when it comes out. The theme of a Mafioso’s widow leaving Queens, NY to move to Savanna, Ga is a unique one. She leaves the home where she and her husband, a “Shylock” in the “Family” raised their family, three boys and a girl, now all grown. The widow, Carlita Garlucci, and her daughter, Mercedes, find a deed to property in Savannah. Carlita, a traditional mafia wife has been a stay at home wife and mother her entire marriage. She had never learned to drive and could not balance a checkbook. She took care of home and children and her husband did everything else. Devastated by her loss, she found she had the strength to change and learn how to be independent and, with her daughter at her side, sold the house and furnishings and moved to start a whole new life.

    In spite of the challenges and huge learning curve, Carlita becomes a successful businesswoman, a landlord, restauranteur, and pawn shop owner. She is very close to her kids and is a kind and loving mother and grandmother. On his deathbed, her husband asked her to get their sons out of the “business” and she tries her best to do so. She makes many friends and acquaintances in her new home. Each installment in the series has a mystery to be solved. The mysteries are interesting and move the stories along. The main characters are well fleshed out and we get to know Carlita and Mercedes very well. We also get to know the people closest to her and learn more about them all as the series progresses. There is one quirky character that drives her crazy. Elvira started as a tenant and when Carlita evictes her, the woman buys a building next door. She is a unique, unusual person who inserts herself in Carlta’s life constantly. She is quite eccentric and you never know what she’ll do next.

    I highly recommend the series.

    Remember those tunnels under the buildings? Yeah well., Elvira hasn’t . Turns out she actually had two other people connect with her to help her find the treasure.. If it’s there that is.! When those two people set an explosion and blew out Elvira’s window, the fire chief was called. Unfortunately, when searching the tunnel, they ended up by Pete’s tunnel. And they saw something on his side. It turns out it was a body and guess who’s the prime suspect? Pete, of course.
    Can Pete get off the Hook 🪝? And get married on time? We’ll have to see.
    I absolutely love these books. Been with them since the beginning. Well, all of Ms. Callaghan’s books. I like that they’re sweet and succinct. They’re full of joy 🤩 and happiness and lots of family. Not really having had family it makes me happy to read about it.
    So take a gander into the rest of her books , you won’t be sorry. 😃

All of her children and their families will be arriving soon as final plans are made for the nuptials! But with a neighbor like Elvira, you know there is going to be something to throw a wrench into the plans...and what a wrench it is!!

    Always looking to make a buck, Elvira accepted an offer to give fellow treasure hunters access to her basement and the tunnels in the area. A week before the wedding Elvira's basement is the scene of an explosion that rattled the entire neighborhood. While searching the tunnels for damage, a former business partner of Pete's is found dead, not a causality of the explosion, but from a gunshot wound! All evidence is pointing at Pete and Carlita is determined to find the evidence to prove her soon to be husband is not the one who pulled the trigger!

    Kudos Hope Callaghan! She's an excellent storyteller. I fell love with the G family from the beginning as Carlita held her dying husband hand and honor his last request. Promise to find a safe place for herself and their children to live away from the mob life.
    She gave her word and did her best. I followed this family through it all and I can recommend that this family will captivate and fascinate you through their daily world. Now that Carlita has been a Mob Wife, became a Widow now a Pirate's Wife. I can't wait to find out what happens next in Savannah, especially with Elvira and Sparky in the mix.lol.hh
